BACKGROUND： Pulse wave analysis（PWA） quantifies the phenomenon of pulse waveform propagation in patients with cardiovascular diseases, whereas pulse image analysis（PIA） is a subjective examination in traditional Chinese medicine. OBJECTIVE： This study evaluated the association of PIA with PWA and hemodynamics in patients with hypertension. deSIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： This observational, cross-sectional study enrolled 45 patients（26 men,（55.2± 10.3） years, systolic blood pressure（155± 28） mm Hg, diastolic blood pressure（93± 17） mm Hg） for assessment of clinical and laboratorial data. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Primary outcomes comprised： pattern differentiation based on an automated method; PIA at the radial artery using the ‘simultaneous pressing＇ method for identification of factors such as strength（strong/weak）, depth（superficial/deep）, and speed（fast/moderate/slow）; and PWA at the same artery using a noninvasive system. RESULTS： Significant multivariate main effects were observed for depth（l=0.648, F_（5,29）=3.149, P=0.022, h^2 =0.352）, strength（l=0.608, F_（5,29） =3.736, P=0.010, h^2 =0.392）, and speed（l=0.535, F_（5,29） =5.302, P=0.002, h^2 =0.465）. General effects comprised high values of PWA and blood pressure for superficial, strong, and fast pulse images. A strong pulse was found for pulse pressure ≥ 62.5 mm Hg and systolic blood pressure ≥ 149.5 mm Hg, whereas a superficial pulse was found for heart rate ≥ 58.25 beats/min; a fast pulse was found for heart rate ≥ 69.6 beats/min and pulse wave velocity ≥ 9.185 m/s. CONCLUSION： Associations were explained by La Place＇s law, arterial remodeling in hypertension, alongside the traditional criterion for classifying speed in pulse images. PIA is associated with PWA and hemodynamics in patients with hypertension. Systolic and pulse pressures, heart rate, and pulse wave velocity are quantitative variables that have information to describe the qualitative pulse images such as strength, depth and speed.

This paper addresses the present-day context of Systems Engineering, revisiting and setting up an updated framework for the SIMILAR process in order to use it to engineer the contemporary systems. The contemporary world is crowded of large interdisciplinary complex systems made of other systems, personnel, hardware, software, information, processes, and facilities. An integrated holistic approach is crucial to develop these systems and take proper account of their multifaceted nature and numerous interrelationships. As the system＇s complexity and extent grow, the number of parties involved （stakeholders and shareholders） usually also raises, bringing to the interaction a considerable amount of points of view, skills, responsibilities, and interests. The Systems Engineering approach aims to tackle the complex and interdisciplinary whole of those socio-technical systems, providing the means to enable their successful realization. Its exploitation in our modern world is assuming an increasing relevance noticeable by emergent standards, academic papers, international conferences, and post-graduate programmes in the field. This work aims to provide ＂the picture＂ of modern Systems Engineering, and to update the context of the SIMILAR process model in order to use this renewed framework to engineer the challenging contemporary systems. The emerging trends in the field are also pointed-out with particular reference to the Model-Based Systems Engineering approach.

The effect of chromium addition on the structure and electrical properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 is *** based on the formula CaCu3Ti4-xCrxO12-σ(x = 0, 0.025, 0.050 and 0.075 mol%) are prepared by solid-state reaction. Pellets sintered at 1070℃ for 12 h are characterised by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy. Current densityelectric field, dielectric loss and permittivity measurements are also carried out. Rietveld refinement showed the substitution of Cr(Ⅲ) on the Ti(Ⅳ) site, with the maximum substitution for x = 0.025 mol%.The generation of electrical defects in the grain boundary region by chromium doping is responsible for increasing the electric breakdown field strength and nonlinearity coefficient at room temperature from 1723 V/cm and 5.29 for x = 0 mol% to 3431 V/cm and 8.16 for x = 0.025 mol%. This composition shows the greatest improvement in ceramic varistor parameters.

Although the involvement of gender in epigenetic machinery in peripheral tissues during the neonatal period has been suggested, the gender-related epigenetic profile of brain areas during the adolescent period is rarely exploited. Furthermore, the influence of time of day on hippocampal acetylation marks has been demonstrated in young adult and aged rats; however, there are no studies reporting epigenetic changes in the adolescent period. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of gender on hippocampal DNA methyltransferase 1 content and histone deacetylase（HDAC） activity of adolescent rats at different time points, specifically early morning and afternoon. Both epigenetic markers increased significantly in the hippocampi of female rats compared to the male group, an indicator of reduced transcriptional activity. In addition, HDAC activity during the early morning was higher compared to afternoon groups in both male and female rats, while DNA methyltransferase 1 content was not altered by the time of day. Our findings demonstrate that hippocampal DNA methylation and histone acetylation status can be influenced by gender during the adolescent period, while the time of the day impacts HDAC activity.

Cancer remains a worldwide health problem, being the disease with the highest impact on global health. Even with all the recent technological improvements, recurrence and metastasis still are the main cause of death. Since photodynamic therapy (PDT) does not compromise other treatment options and presents reduced long-term morbidity when compared with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, it appears as a promising alternative treatment for controlling malignant diseases. In this review, we set out to perform a broad up-date on PDT in cancer research and treatment, discussing how this approach has been applied and what it could add to breast cancer therapy. We covered topics going from the photochemical mechanisms involved, the different cell death mechanisms being triggered by a myriad of photosensitizers up to the more recent-on-going clinical trials.

目的:研究短期手法针刺足三里治疗对脂多糖诱导的实验性大鼠急性肺损伤的预防作用。方法:根据是否进行脂多糖刺激及采用的针刺方法的不同,将32只 Wistar 大鼠随机分为4组,即正常对照组、模型组、假针刺组和针刺组,每组8只。假针刺组和针刺组大鼠行手法针刺治疗,连续治疗4 d,每次 5 min。第4天针刺后采用脂多糖刺激诱导大鼠急性肺损伤。第5天,收集外周血、支气管肺泡灌洗液和骨髓等进行白细胞计数。结果:血细胞计数和支气管肺泡灌洗液细胞计数提示,针刺可减轻急性肺损伤大鼠的炎性反应,假针刺也有轻微的效果。正常对照组和模型组大鼠无明显的炎性反应。与正常对照组比较,模型组肺泡灌洗液中细胞计数增加;与假针刺组比较,针刺组肺泡灌选液中细胞计数减少,但差异没有统计学意义。结论:预防性手法针刺足三里可减轻脂多糖诱导的大鼠急性肺损伤,但其相关免疫机制仍待进一步的研究。

The Application of Scales in the Diagnosis of Perceived Needs in the Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment

The study evaluated the use of the Mini-Mental State Examination scale (MMSE), Tinettiscale, and Motor Scale for the Elderly (EMTI) toassist in the diagnosis of potential needs observed in elderlies with Mild Cognitive Impairment. This was aquasi-experimental research, conducted in a Basic Health Unit in thecityof Rio de Janeiro in 2014. The sample population consisted of 22 elderlies aged 64 to 88 years and 86.36% females. The saS statistical software (version 9.3.1) and Kruskal-Wallis test were used at a 95% confidence interval and a significance level of 0.05 and demonstrated significant differences in the evaluations performed before and after the intervention. The detected diagnoses were: impaired memory, the risk of falls, and willingness to improved relationships, among others. The evaluations showed MMSE results that were suggestive of cognitive impairment in 22.73% of the elderlies;the Tinetti scale showed a high risk of falls in 31.82% of theelderlies;and EMTI with 88.36 points, which was equivalent to the normal low classification. The intervention took place through ten weekly activity sessions after the initial evaluations. In the second evaluation, the Tinetti showed 59.09% of the elderlies with a moderate risk of falls and the EMTI as the normal average classification with 90.32 points. It was concluded that the scales offered diagnostic possibilities, which allowed for the implementation of necessary interventions according to the detected problems.

Alzheimer's disease is a severe, highly disabling neurodegenerative disease, clinically characterized by a progressive decline in cognitive functions, and is the most common form of dementia in the elderly. For decades, the search for disease-modifying therapies has focused on the two main Alzheimer's disease histopathological hallmarks, seeking to prevent, mitigate, or clear the formation of extracellular aggregates of β-amyloid peptide and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles of tau protein, although without clinical success. Mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, especially because it also targets other crucial players in the pathogenesis of the disease, such as neuroinflammation, synaptic dysfunction/loss, oxidative stress, and impaired neurogenesis. Herein, we review current knowledge of the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells and their extracellular vesicles for Alzheimer's disease, discussing the most recent findings in both preclinical and clinical trials as well as how advanced technologies have helped to overcome some limitations and contributed to stimulate the development of more effective treatments.
