A recent study by Yao et *** in Nature Biomedical Engineering showed the importance of palmitoylation in regulat-ing PD-L1 protein stability and trafficking.1 These researchers developed a competitive inhibitor that blocks PD-L1 palmitoyla-tion,which may provide a new strategy for targeting PD-L1 or other palmitoylated membrane proteins(Fig.1).

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stabilization of unstable periodic orbits of Chua’s system using adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controllers with moving ***/methodology/approach–For this aim,the sliding mode controller and fuzzy systems are combined to achieve the ***,the authors propose a moving sliding surface to improve robustness against uncertainties during the reaching phase,parameter variations and extraneous ***–Afterward,the authors design a sliding observer to estimate the unmeasurable states which are used in the previously designed ***/value–Numerical results are provided to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

In this work, gallium phosphide thin films were deposited on glass substrates by radio frequency （RF） magnetron sputtering technique under different depositions conditions. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed a diversity of states： from amorphous in the films deposited at 175 ~C to a nearly stoichiometric and polycrystalline films, exhibiting cubic phase with preferred orientation along （220）, in the films deposited at temperatures higher than 250 ~C. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed that all films were uniform with a smooth surface, while the energy-dispersive spectroscopy （EDS） analysis showed that there was a visible dependence on the Ga/P ratio in the deposition conditions and confirmed that a residual Ga metallic phase was presented in the surface of all the films. The Raman analysis showed the structural evolution of the GaP films was strongly dependent on the deposition conditions. The conductivity of the films was slightly dependent on the argon pressure and the rf power, but strongly dependent on the deposition temperature, mainly above 200 ~C. The optical transmission and absorption analyses of the GaP films revealed an indirect band gap of ~ 1.70 eV in the films deposited at temperatures less than 200 ~C, which transited to a band gap of 2.26 eV as the deposition temperature was close to 300 ~C.

Municipal effluents are known to impede the immune system of aquatic organisms. The purpose of this studywas to examine the immunotoxicity of urbanwastewaters before and after 6 treatment processes from 12 cities toward trout leucocytes. Freshly prepared trout leucocyteswere exposed to increasing concentrations of solid phase （C18） extracts ofwastewaters for24 hr at 15°C. Immunocompetencewasdetermined by following changes in leucocyte viability and the proportion of cells able to ingest at least one （immunoactivity） and at least three （immunoefficiency） fluorescent beads. The influentswere treated by sixdifferent treatment strategies consisting of facultative aerated lagoons, activated sludge, biological aerated filter, biological nutrient removal, chemically-assisted physical treatment and trickling filter/solid contact. Water quality parameters of thewastewaters revealed that the plants effectively removed total suspended solids and reduced the chemical oxygendemand. The results revealed that the effluents＇ immunotoxic propertieswere generally more influenced by the properties of the untreatedwastewaters than by the treatment processes. About half of the incoming influentsdecreased leucocyte viabilitywhile4 treatment plantswere able to reduce toxicity. The influents readily increased phagocytosis activity for 8/12 influentswhile itwasdecreased in4/12 influents. This increasewas abolished for4/12 of the effluents using treatments involving biological and oxidative processes. In conclusion, municipal effluents have the potential to alter the immune system in fish and more researchwill be needed to improve the treatments ofwastewaters to better protect the quality of the aquatic environment.

A geophysical investigation of subsurface structures using the Syscal Junior 48 resistivity-meter was conducted in Ngoura subdivision (East Cameroon) following a combined geoelectrical direct current (DC) approach involving Resistivity and IP methods. This investigation was allowed to collect data on forty-five (45) profiling lines at three acquisition levels (AB = 100 m, MN = 10 m;AB = 200 m, MN = 20 m and AB = 500 m, MN = 50 m) and two electric panels L1 and L4, using the Schlumberger array. Processing, modeling and interpretation of data collected using the Winsev, Res2Dinv and Surfer software helped in highlighting a conductive and strongly mineralized discontinuity in granite formations, which lined up with the ne-SW Kadei tectonic line. It extends beyond 100 m depth over an average width of 600 m. The mineralization associated with this discontinuity is identified by a high concentration of disseminated metalliferous minerals in quartz or pegmatite veins. The mining reconnaissance works in the study area and those of several authors have characterized this anomaly to a lode gold quartz or large pegmatite. The results of this study correlate with geological and tectonic data for the region marked by ne-SW Kadei tectonic line. Therefore, they confirm the reliability of a geoelectrical DC investigation method combining Resistivity and IP to the identification of ore bodies.

In this study,a hydrophobic synthetic zeolite,namely ZSM-5 is chosen as an adsorbent/catalyst for toluene *** results showed that toluene adsorption onto ZSM-5 was favourable,following a Langmuir adsorption isotherm ***-5 zeolite was regenerated using gaseous ozone at low *** toluene was oxidised,releasing mainly CO_2 and H_*** of oxidation by-products such as acetic acid and acetaldehyde were formed and remained adsorbed after the oxidativate regeneration with *** four successive cycles of adsorption/ozonation,the adsorption efficiency was not affected（92%-99%）.These results showed that volatile organic compound（VOC）removal by adsorption onto ZSM-5 zeolite followed by ozone regeneration could be used as a promising hybrid process for the control of VOC emissions in terms of efficiency.

Introduction: Psychological distress can affect every worker’s mental health or working ability, and specifically the healthcare workers. It is essential to prevent and treat it in order to anticipate predictable consequences. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of psychological distress among the healthcare workers in the city of Douala. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out during the 1st semester of 2023 in two reference hospitals of the city of Douala. All volunteer staff from the targeted hospitals were involved. We collected data using a mixed questionnaire that included the working conditions, as of the socioprofessional and psychological characteristics of the healthcare workers. We measured the level of psychological distress using the Kessler scale. Analysis was performed using the Chi-2 test and multivariate analysis. Threshold value was & = 5%, p Results: The participation rate was 86.3%. Women (81.7%) and nurses (77.6%) predominated in the sample. The mean age was 35.38 ± 8.9 years, and individuals in their thirties accounted for 46.79% of the sample. The prevalence of psychological distress was 19.5%. The psychological distress was categorized as mild (48.72%), moderate (18.46%) or severe (32.82%). Risk factors for psychological distress included being of the catholic faith (OR = 3.6, p = 0.04), poor sleep quality (OR = 3.9, p = 0.001) and long working hours (OR = 2.2, p = 0.002). Overtime was the only protective factor identified (OR = 0.6, p = 0.04). Conclusion: nearly 1 out of 5 healthcare workers suffered from psychological distress exacerbated by poor working and living conditions. There is an urgent need to improve their working conditions to prevent the development of more severe consequences.

The suitability of using precipitated silica(PS) from the burning of rice husk was investigated to improve the geotechnical engineering properties of a black cotton soil. A laboratory experimental program consisting of series of specific gravity, Atterberg limits, compaction, California bearing ratio(CBR), unconfined compression and consolidation tests was conducted on the untreated and PS treated soil samples. The application of PS to the soil significantly changed its properties by reducing its plasticity and making it more workable, improving its soaked strength, and increasing its permeability and the rate at which the soil gets consolidated. An optimal PS content of 50%, which provided the highest soaked strength, is recommended for the improvement of the subgrade characteristics of the BC soil for use as a pavement layer material.

Insect host-parasitoid interactions involve complex physiological, biochemical and genetic interactions. Against endoparasitoids, immune-competent hosts initiate a blood cell-mediated response that quickly destroys the intruders and envelops them in a multilayered melanotic capsule. During the past decade, considerable progress has been made in identifying some of the critical components of the host response, mainly because of the use of efficient molecular tools. This review examines some of the components of the innate immune response of Drosophila, an insect that has served as an exceptionally good experimental model for studying non-self recognition processes and immune cell signaling mechanisms. Topics considered in this review include hematopoiesis, proliferation and adhesion of hemocytes, melanogenesis and associated cytotoxic molecules, and the genetic aspects of the host-parasitoid interaction.
