Characterization of oral yeasts isolated from healthy individuals attended in different Colombian dental clinics

The aim of this study was to identify the most frequent yeasts in the oral cavity of adult individuals without immune disorders and to associate the presence of these oral yeasts with different characteristics of each individual. Oral rinse samples were obtained from 96 healthy adults and cultured in Sabouraud dextrose agar media and CHROMagar. Yeasts were identified by sequencing the D1/D2 region of the 28 S rRNA gene. Probable association among the socio-demographic characteristics, body mass index, family and personal medical history,oral hygiene, tobacco and/or alcohol consumption habits and presence of oral fungi was analyzed. Contingency tables and logistic regression were employed to evaluate possible relationships between the presence of oral fungi and mixed colonization with these variables. 57.3% of the healthy individuals had oral yeasts and 21.8% had mixed colonization. The most prevalent yeasts were Candida albicans(52%), C. parapsilosis(17.9%), and ***(7.57%). Yeasts with most frequently mixed colonization were C. albicans and C. parapsilosis. No relationships were found among the variables analyzed. However, the presence of mixed colonization was related to the presence of dental prostheses(P<0.006), dental apparatuses(P=0.016) and O’Leary index(P=0.012). This is the first study that characterized oral yeasts in Colombian healthy individuals, determined the most prevalent oral yeasts C. albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. dublinensis and an association of mixed colonization with the use of dental prostheses and aparatology and poor hygiene.

Influence of local and landscape environmental factors on alpha and beta diversity of macroinvertebrates in Andean rivers

Research on macroinvertebrate community structure in Andean rivers has been oriented towards describing patterns of alpha and gamma diversity by taking into account environmental predictors at local spatial scales(e.g.,micro-and mesohabitats).However,the patterns of beta diversity and the importance of landscape-scale variables have been evaluated to a lesser *** objective of this study was to describe the patterns of alpha and beta diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates in the Andean rivers of the Orinoco basin and their relationship with local and landscape environmental variation.A stratified random sampling of macroinvertebrates was carried out at 40 sites(comprising an altitudinal range of between 500 and 2900 m.a.s.l.),local and landscape variables were *** results showed that the variation of alpha diversity was influenced by local and landscape variables,which are directly and indirectly related to the contribution of sediments,substrate composition and flow velocity,providing a heterogeneity of *** beta diversity was explained by the combined effect of local and landscape *** the beta diversity phenomena,turnover was predominant while nestedness presented a minor contribution and both were explained in greater proportion by local descriptors and some landscape variables,specifically those of a geomorphological *** results concur with the view of an environmental and spatial hierarchy within the river habitat and highlight the influence of multiple scales on macroinvertebrate *** above suggests that both local and landscape scales must necessarily be considered for environmental management and the conservation of Andean lotic ecosystems.

In this paper we study a bilinear optimal control problem for a diffusive Lotka-Volterra competition model with chemo-repulsion in a bounded domain of ℝ^(ℕ),N=2,*** model describes the competition of two species in which one of them avoid encounters with rivals through a chemo-repulsion *** prove the existence and uniqueness of weak-strong solutions,and then we analyze the existence of a global optimal solution for a related bilinear optimal control problem,where the control is acting on the chemical ***,we derive first-order optimality conditions for local optimal solutions using the Lagrange multipliers ***,we propose a discrete approximation scheme of the optimality system based on the gradient method,which is validated with some computational experiments.

In this paper we redesign the probabilistic teleportation scheme considered in ***.A 61,034301(2000)by Wan-Li Li et al.,where the optimal state extraction protocol complements the basic teleportation process with a partially entangled pure state channel,in order to transfer the unknown state with fidelity *** that scheme,where the information of the unknown state is lost if the state extraction fails,our proposal teleports exactly and optimally an unknown state,and allows to recover faithfully that state when the process has not *** order to study the resilience of the scheme,we apply it to the teleportation problem through a quantum channel in a mixed state with pure *** find that a successful process transfers an unfaithful state,namely,the outcome state acquires the decoherence of the channel,but the unknown state is recovered by the sender with fidelity 1 if the teleportation *** addition,in this case,the fidelity of the teleported state has quantum features only if the channel has an amount of entanglement different from zero.

background While diffuse atherosclerotic disease affecting the posterior circulation has been described extensively,the prevalence,natural history and angiographic characteristics of isolated symptomatic basilar artery stenosis(ISBAS)remain *** We reviewed our prospective institutional database to identify patients with≥50% symptomatic basilar artery(BA)stenosis without significant atherosclerotic burden in the vertebral or posterior cerebral *** mechanism,collateral circulation,and degree and length of stenosis were *** primary outcome was time from index event to new transient ischaemic attack(TIA),acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)or *** outcome variables included modified Rankin Scale(mRS)score on discharge and last *** Of 6369 patients with AIS/TIA,91(1.43%)had ***-three(80.2%)patients presented with AIS and 18(19.8%)with ***-nine(31.9%)were women and the median age was 66.8±13.6 *** mean follow-up time was 2.7 *** most common stroke mechanism was artery-to artery thromboembolism(45.2%),followed by perforator occlusion(28.7%)and flow-dependent/hypoperfusion(15.1%).The percentage of stenosis was lower in patients who had favourable outcome compared with those with mRS 3-6 on discharge(78.3±14.3 vs 86.9±14.5,p=0.007).Kaplan-Meier curves showed higher recurrence/death rates in patients with≥80% stenosis,mid-basilar location and poor collateral *** 13% of patients with ISBAS presented with complete BA *** ISBAS is an uncommon(1.43%)cause of TIA and *** in their 60s are mostly affected,and artery-to artery embolism is the most common stroke ***-basilar location,≥80% stenosis and poor collateral circulation are important factors associated with worse prognosis.
