Effectiveness of revascularization of the ulcerated foot in diabetic patients with peripheral artery disease for one year follow-up

Diabetes is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis. The diabetic foot is characterized by the presence of arteriopathy and neuropathy. When ischemia is diagnosed, restoration of pulsatile blood flow by revascularization may be considered for salvaging the limb. The treatment options are angioplasty with or without stenting and surgical bypass or hybrid procedures combining the two. To evaluate the outcomes of severe ischemic diabetic foot ulcers for which percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) was considered as the first-line vascular procedure. Factors associated with successful PTA were also evaluated. In 80 consecutive diabetic patients with foot ulcers and severe limb ischemia, PTAwas performed if feasible. All patients were followed until healing or for one year. Clinical and angiographic factors in fluencing outcomes after PTA were sought by univariate and multivariate analysis. PTAwas done in 73 of the 80 (91.2%) patients, and considered clinically succe ssful in 58(79.9%). Successful PTA was significantly higher in patients with Superficial femoral artery, posterior Tibialis and dorsalis pedis arteries involvement in the univariate analysis. Seven patients were expired during the study follow up due to MI, pulmonary thromboembolism and GI bleeding. PTA in diabetic patients with severe ischemic foot ulcers provided favorable. Some parameters could be used for predicting PTA successfulness.

Formation and Microstructural Characterization of Silicon-modified Aluminide Coating on Nickel-based Superalloy IN738LC

In this investigation, aluminide coatings used to protect industrial components at high temperature and corrosive environments were modified with silicon addition and the microstructural features and formation mechanism were evaluated. The coating on the nickel-based superalloy IN738LC was carried out by a two stage process including siliconizing at first and aluminizing thereafter. Pack cementation siliconizing performed at 950C for 2, 4 and 6 hours in several powder mixtures of Si, A12O3 and NHiCl, then aluminum was diffused into the surface of the specimens by an industrial aluminizing process. The modified coatings were characterized by means of standard metallography, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. The results show that Si in the coatings mainly presents in the form of secondary phases including Cr3Si, Mo5Si3 and Nii6Ti6Si7, well distributed within the NiAl matrix. The advantages of this two stage modified coating is discussed.

Aging behavior of a copper-bearing high-strength low-carbon steel

The effects of aging temperature and time on the hardness and impact toughness of a copper-bearing high-strength low-carbon steel were investigated. The hardness of the aged samples reached maxima after 1 h and 5 h of aging at 500 and 450℃, respectively; this increase in hardness was followed by a decrease in hardness until a temperature of 700℃, at which secondary hardening was observed. The impact toughness of the aged steel was found to be higher for 5 h of aging. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed the presence of carbide and copper precipitates; also, the secondary hardening could be the result of the transformation of austenite（formed in the aging treatment） to martensite. Differential scanning calorimetry of the steel was performed to better understand the precipitation behavior. The results revealed that the precipitation of the steel exhibited two significant stages of copper precipitate nucleation and coarsening of the precipitates, with corresponding activation energies of 49 and 238 kJ·mol^-1, respectively.

Diversity and biomass of different functional groups of herbaceous species along an altitudinal gradient in the semi-arid Zagros mountain forests of Iran

The response of diversity and biomass of herbaceous functional groups along an altitudinal gradient in mountainous forests of southern Zagros,Khuzestan Province,Iran was studied by sampling vegetation in 30 circular 1000-m^2 plots in herb layer of the forest floor within 646–2447 m asl(lowland:2000 m asl).The most important herbaceous functional groups were classified based on two aspects of growth form:annuals–perennials,grasses–*** the relationship between the diversity,richness,evenness,biomass and elevation was *** results showed that the annual functional group in the low-and midland classes,and perennial functional group in the lowland class had the highest species diversity and evenness in annual and perennial functional groups,respectively(p<0.01).The perennials in the highland class had the maximum total,above-and belowground dry biomass(p<0.01).On the other hand,the forb functional group in the lowland class had the greatest species diversity,richness,and evenness(p<0.01)and in the highland class had the maximum total dry,above-and belowground dry biomass in the grass and forb functional groups(p<0.01).Increasing the diversity,richness,and species evenness resulted in a decrease in the plant dry biomass.

Green coffee bean hydroalcoholic extract accelerates wound healing in full-thickness wounds in rabbits

Plantago Ovata Efficiency in Elimination of Water Turbidity

Coagulation and flocculation are the most important processes in water treatment plants. Nowadays, in Iran, coagulants which have the most usage in water treatment are Aluminum Sulphate (Alum) and Ferric Chlo-ride. Using synthetic coagulants are not economical and useful for health in developing countries. The aim of this research is to survey and compare the Ferric Chloride coagulant function and this coagulant accompany with Plantago ovata coagulant aid under variable pH for eliminating of water turbidity. This study was performed in lab scale for water containing artificial turbidity of clay. The experiments were done in three turbidity ranges 100, 50, 20 NTU and two ranges of pH 7 and 8. The amount of Ferric Chloride in all experiments were 10 ppm and *** extarct in optimum concentration for turbidity of 100, 50, 20 NTU was 0.2 ppm, 0.1 ppm and 0.04 ppm respectively. The optimum pH was 7. Using *** co-agulant aid in turbidity 100, 50, 20 NTU can eliminate 94.1, 94.5, 88.15 percent of above turbidities, while using Ferric Chloride coagulant alone in optimum pH can eliminate 90.3, 85.16, 80.2 percent of the turbid-ities mentioned above. Results show that *** extract is less efficient in high turbidities when used as a coagulant aid. Plantago ovata, as a coagulant aid, showed positive influence on turbidity removal from water. In addition, optimized pH showed important role in reducing turbidity.
