Geospatial approach to elucidate anomalies in the hierarchical organization of drainage network in Kuttiyadi River Basin, Southern India

An assessment of anomalies in the hierarchical organization of the drainage network in the Kuttiyadi River Basin(KuRB),Kerala,has been performed by considering various morphometric parameters such as bifurcation index(R),hierarchical anomaly index(Δa),hierarchical anomaly density(ga),and stream gradient index(SL)in a geographical information system(GIS)***,a digital elevation model(DEM)of the area has been generated from Cartosat stereo pair data at 2.5-m *** computed quantitative information about drainage characteristics reveals the highest drainage anomaly is observed in sub-watersheds(SW)III and *** is observed that neo-tectonic activity caused the development of younger stage drainage patterns of structural controls in the sub-watersheds of this river *** tectonic activityinduced diffusion,high energy fluvial erosion,and anthropogenic interferences altered the hierarchical organization of the drainage network of the sub-watersheds in mature to old stages of geomorphic *** results of finding validated with asymmetry factor and ratio of the hierarchical index(Δa)with hierarchical anomaly number(A),bifurcation index(R),direct bifurcation ratio(Rdb),stream gradient index(SL),and denudation index(logTu).From the denudation index analysis,the sediment yield of the river basin is identified as 0.67 t·km^(−2)·yr^(−1).Moreover,the asymmetric factor(AF)in the KuRB shows the imprints of paleo−Neo proterozoic crustal tilting toward a NNW−SSE direction.

Turbine passage Secondary Flow Dynamics and Endwall Heat Transfer Under Different Inflow Turbulence

This study presents endwall hydrodynamics and heat transfer in a linear turbine cascade at Re 5×105 at low and high intensities of *** are numerically predicted using the standard SST model and Reθ-γtransition model as well as using the high-resolution LES *** major secondary flow components,comprising the horseshoe,corner,and passage vortices are recognized and the impact on heat or mass transfer is *** complicated behavior of turbine passage secondary flow generation and establishment are impacted by the perspective of boundary layer attributes and inflow *** passage vortex concerning the latest big leading-edge vane is generated by the enlargement of the circulation developed at the first instance adjacent to the pressure side becomes powerful and mixes with other vortex systems during its migration towards the suction *** study conclusions reveal that substantial enhancements are attained on the endwall surface,for the entire spanwise blade extension on the pressure surface,and in the highly 3-D region close to the endwall on the suction *** forecasted suction surface thermal exchange depicts great conformity with the measurement values and precisely reproduces the enhanced thermal exchange owing to the development and lateral distribution of the secondary flows along the midspan of the blade passage *** impacts of the different secondary flow structures on the endwall thermal exchange are described in depth.

Optimum profiles of Endwall Contouring for Enhanced Net Heat Flux Reduction and Aerodynamic performance

Successfully utilized non-axisymmetric endwalls to enhance turbine efficiencies(aerodynamic and turbine inlet temperatures)by controlling the characteristics of the secondary flow in a blade *** is accomplished by steady-state numerical hydrodynamics and deep knowledge of the field of *** of the interaction between mainstream and purge flow contributing supplementary losses in the stage,non-axisymmetric endwalls are highly susceptible to the inception of purge flow exit compared to the flat and any advantage rapidly *** conclusions reveal that the supreme endwall pattern could yield a lowering of the gross pressure loss at the design stage and is related to the size of the top-loss location being productively *** has led to diminished global thermal exchange lowered in the passage of the vane *** reverse flow adjacent to the suction side corner of the endwall is migrated farther from the vane surface,as the deviated pressure spread on the endwall accelerates the flow and progresses the reverse flow core still *** depleted association between the tornado-like vortex and the corner vortex adjacent to the suction side corner of the endwall is the dominant mechanism of control in the contoured end *** this publication,we show that the non-axisymmetric endwall contouring by selective numerical shape change method at most prominent locations is advantageous in lowering the thermal load in turbines to augment the net heat flux reduction as well as the aerodynamic performance using multi-objective optimization.

Does community-based health insurance affect lifestyle and timing of treatment seeking behavior?Evidence from Ethiopia

Objectives This paper aims to investigate the effects of enrollment in the Ethiopian community-based health insurance(CBHI)scheme on household preventive care activities and the timing of treatment-seeking behavior for illness *** is growing concern about the financial sustainability of CBHI schemes in developing ***,few empirical studies have identified potential contributors,including ex-ante and ex-post moral *** We implement a household fixed-effect panel data regression model,drawing on three rounds of household survey data collected face to face in districts where CBHI scheme is operational and in districts where it is not operational in *** The findings show that enrolment in CBHI does not significantly influence household behaviour regarding preventive care activities such as water treatment before drinking and handwashing before ***,CBHI significantly increases delay in treatment-seeking behaviour for diseases ***,on average,we estimate about 4-6 h delay for malaria symptoms,a little above 4 h for tetanus,and 10-11 h for tuberculosis among the insured *** While there is evidence that CBHI improve the utilization of outpatient or primary care services,our study suggests that insured members may wait longer before visiting health *** delay could be partly due to moral hazard problems,as insured households,particularly those from rural areas,may consider the opportunity costs associated with visiting health facilities for minor ***,it is essential to identify the primary causes of delays in seeking medical services and implement appropriate interventions to encourage insured individuals to seek early medical attention.

The study focuses on the physico-chemical characteritics of the wild fruit Meyna laxiflora Robyns(Alu)and fruit powder,which was gathered from the Konkan region of Maharashtra Alu fruit powder is made by using a drying aid called maltodextrin(MD).powder samples(Mp1,Mp2,Mp3,Mp4 and Mp5)were made using different amounts of MD(05,10,15,2.0 and 2.5 g).preliminary phytochemical screening of fnuit pulp and powder showed the presence of some phytoconstituents such as reducing sugar,saponin,flavonoids,and terpenoids,whereas akaloids,tannins,steroids and protein were absent in *** parameters of the powder are durectly infuenced by the amount of MD,as evidenced by the variations in bulk density,total soluble solids,pH,specific gravity and the proximate among the powder *** solubility was found in the sample with a medium of *** highest of particle distribution was found in MD-added samples Mp2(1 g),Mp3(1.5 g),Mp4(2 g)whereas the raw(MpO)showed the *** analysis was done using 9-point hedonic scale,which revealed that Mp2,Mp3,and Mp4 were highly *** study assumed that fresh Alu fuit,palp and in the form of powder can be useful for the development of new products.

Today, in India, IT-professional is the most envied person because of high salaries, ability to purchase the best of the items and chances for globetrotting. But in reality their personal life lacks luster because of many problems s/he is forced to face in the professional life. Most raising and risky problem is infertility. Due to heavy burden of work, fear of performance appraisal IT-people cannot spend time to their family. Although they are with their spouse, their mind travel somewhere in their work. This culture has long term effect on their sexual life. The paper focuses on the fact that how heavy workload of IT-sector affects on fertility of couples. For the study, two populations are used, IT-professionals and Doctors. 284 married IT-professionals and 30 doctors of pune（India） have been selected. The views of doctors on this topic were very important. Sampling plan used is snowball sampling. Research tries to search whether infertility among IT-professionals is increasing, if yes what are the causes behind this problem. At the end paper concludes that couples in IT sector are facing infertility problems.

Understanding human-leopard conflict in the ‘Mid-hill’ region of western Nepal

Livestock rearing and agriculture are the main sources of community-based livelihoods in western *** the rural mid-hills region of Gandaki province,leopards are the top predator and frequently depredate livestock and attack *** patterns of human-leopard conflicts(HLC) in Nepal are poorly known at the provincial and national scales,which are essential to formulating effective conflict mitigation strategies and implementing them in the *** study aims to analyze the spatiotemporal pattern of HLC by applying Maxent modeling to covariates relating to known and registered conflict cases(n=842) collected from Nepalese government *** found that cases of HLC have been increasing significantly over the past five *** also concluded that mid-elevation,south-facing slopes were more susceptible to HLC,but that mean annual temperature was by far the most important predictor of HLC;overall livestock density and proximity to roads were also important,but secondarily *** we found the increase in human fatalities to 2.16/year was significant(pp>0.05).However,we also found an increasing trend in livestock depredation rates for this same five-year period(ppredations occurred,and that goats were the most depredated of all livestock.A total US $86,892.25($17,378.45/year) of economic losses were incurred by communities during this time,with 78.57% of the total value reimbursed as compensatory relief through the government’s relief *** recommend that the use of predator-proof livestock corrals,greater awareness in local communities about wildlife behavior,better animal husbandry and security practices,and a more efficient compensation program,can improve coexistence between leopard populations and human communities in western Nepal.

The species richness and propagule number of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)are high in intensively-managed agricultural *** research has shown that AMF improve crop phosphorus(p)uptake under low soil p conditions,however it is unclear if AMF play a role in high Olsen-p *** this study,we investigated whether native fungal benefits exist under high p input field conditions in-situ and contribute to p *** installed in-grow tubes which were sealed with different membrane pore sizes(30 or 0.45μm)to allow or prevent AMF hyphae access to the hyphal compartment and prevent cotton roots from penetrating the *** used the depletion of soil available p(Olsen-p)in the hyphae accessed compartment to indicate p uptake by the native AMF *** results showed that the native AMF mediated p depletion and microbial biomass p(MBp)turnover and caused the largest Olsen-p depletion ratio and MBp turnover ratio in the high p treatments(Olsen-p:78.29 mg kg^(-1)).The cotton roots in each fertilization regime were colonized by a unique AMF community and Glomus and paraglomus were the dominant genera,implying the longterm fertilization regimes domesticated the AMF *** conclude that native AMF caused the p depletion and p turnover even under high soil Olsen-p conditions.

Biliary strictures complicating living donor liver transplantation:problems,novel insights and solutions

Biliary stricture complicating living donor liver transplantation(LDLT) is a relatively common complication, occurring in most transplant centres across the world. Cases of biliary strictures are more common in LDLT than in deceased donor liver transplantation. Endoscopic management is the mainstay for biliary strictures complicating LDLT and includes endoscopic retrograde cholangiography, sphincterotomy and stent placement(with or without balloon dilatation). The efficacy and safety profiles as well as outcomes of endoscopic management of biliary strictures complicating LDLT is an area that needs to be viewed in isolation, owing to its unique set of problems and attending complications; as such, it merits a tailored approach, which is yet to be well established. The diagnostic criteria applied to these strictures are not uniform and are over-reliant on imaging studies showing an anastomotic narrowing. It has to be kept in mind that in the setting of LDLT, a subjective anastomotic narrowing is present in most cases due to a mismatch in ductal diameters. However, whether this narrowing results in a functionally significant narrowing is a question that needs further study. In addition, wide variation in the endotherapy protocols practised in most centres makes it difficult to interpret the results and hampers our understanding of this topic. The outcome definition for endotherapy is also heterogenous and needs to be standardised to allow for comparison of data in this regard and establish a clinical practice guideline. There have been multiple studies in this area in the last 2 years, with novel findings that have provided solutions to some of these issues. This review endeavours to incorporate these new findings into the wider understanding of endotherapy for biliary strictures complicating LDLT, with specific emphasis on diagnosis of strictures in the LDLT setting, endotherapy protocols and outcome definitions.
