PepBind: A Comprehensive Database and Computational Tool for Analysis of Protein-peptide Interactions

Protein-peptide interactions, where one partner is a globular protein （domain） and the other is a flexible linear peptide, are key components of cellular processes predominantly in signal- ing and regulatory networks, hence are prime targets for drug design. To derive the details of the protein-peptide interaction mechanism is often a cumbersome task, though it can be made easier with the availability of specific databases and tools. The Peptide Binding Protein Database （Pep- Bind） is a curated and searchable repository of the structures, sequences and experimental observa- tions of 3100 protein^eptide complexes. The web interface contains a computational tool, protein inter-chain interaction （PICI）, for computing several types of weak or strong interactions at the pro- tein peptide interaction interface and visualizing the identified interactions between residues in Jmol viewer. This initial database release focuses on providing protein-peptide interface informa- tion along with structure and sequence information for protein-peptide complexes deposited in the Protein Data Bank （PDB）. Structures in PepBind are classified based on their cellular activity. More than 40% of the structures in the database are found to be involved in different regulatory pathways and nearly 20% in the immune system. These data indicate the importance of protein- peptide complexes in the regulation of cellular processes. PepBind is freely accessible at http：// ***/.

Gut dysfunction in Parkinson's disease

Early involvement of gut is observed in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and symptoms such as constipation may precede motor symptoms. α-Synuclein pathology is extensively evident in the gut and appears to follow a rostrocaudal gradient. The gut may act as the starting point of PD pathology with spread toward the central nervous system. This spread of the synuclein pathology raises the possibility of prion-like propagation in PD pathogenesis. Recently, the role of gut microbiota in PD pathogenesis has received attention and some phenotypic correlation has also been shown. The extensive involvement of the gut in PD even in its early stages has led to the evaluation of enteric α-synuclein as a possible biomarker of early PD. The clinical manifestations of gastrointestinal dysfunction in PD include malnutrition, oral and dental disorders, sialorrhea, dysphagia, gastroparesis, constipation, and defecatory dysfunction. These conditions are quite distressing for the patients and require relevant investigations and adequate management. Treatment usually involves both pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures. One important aspect of gut dysfunction is its contribution to the clinical fluctuations in PD. Dysphagia and gastroparesis lead to inadequate absorption of oral anti-PD medications. These lead to response fluctuations, particularly delayed-on and no-on, and there is significant relationship between levodopa pharmacokinetics and gastric emptying in patients with PD. Therefore, in such cases, alternative routes of administration or drug delivery systems may be required.

Predictors of antenatal health service utilization among left-behind wives of male outmigrants:Evidence from Patna District,India

Objective:To analyze the sociological support system available for left-behind wives of male outmigrants and develop a model that predicts the antenatal care(ANC)services ***:A cross-sectional survey was conducted in rural regions of the Patna district,*** sample size(n=328)was estimated using Cochran’s *** parameters of the social support system were identified(autonomy,spousal support,family support,social circle support,and government support).The score for each was calculated as a composite score using multiple variables;these served as independent *** respondents were categorized as efficient and non-efficient users of ANC service based on established ***:The regression results showed that four out of five social parameters had a significant effect on ANC *** support was the strongest predictor(standardized regression coefficient β=0.57,OR 1.16,95%CI 1.08-1.79,P=0.007).Government support was found to be the second strongest predictor(β=0.40,OR 1.49,95%CI 1.04-2.14,P=0.027),followed by family support(β=0.31,OR 1.36,95%CI 1.23-2.57,P=0.034)and autonomy(β=0.11,OR 1.32,95%CI 1.11-2.26,P=0.030).The social circle support was found to be non-significant in predicting ANC behavior(P>0.05).Conclusions:The policymakers could focus on the identified predictors to strengthen and modify the existing policies for leftbehind wives of male *** need of the hour is a strategic intervention for behavioral modification of not only the left-behind wives but also their family members along with reinforcement of the existing social-security *** strategy we suggest is to launch an awareness campaign focusing on husbands(male outmigrants)and family members.

Biocompatible silver nanoparticles: An investigation into their protein binding efficacies, anti-bacterial effects and cell cytotoxicity studies

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)has garnered tremendous interest as conventional methods include the use and production of toxic chemicals,products,by-products and *** this regard,the synthesis of AgNPs using green tea(GT)extract and two of its components,(-)-epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)and(+)-catechin(Ct)as capping/stabilizing agents,is *** synthesized AgNPs showed antibacterial activity against the bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli,along with anticancer activity against HeLa *** administering nanoparticles to the body,they come in contact with proteins and results in the formation of a protein corona;hence we studied the interactions of these biocompatible AgNPs with hen egg white lysozyme(HEWL)as a carrier *** quenching mechanism was accountable for the quenching of HEWL fluorescence by the *** binding constant(Kb)was found to be higher for EGCG-AgNPs((2.309±0.018)×104 M-1)than for GT-AgNPs and Ct-AgNPs towards ***-AgNPs increased the polarity near the binding site while Ct-AgNPs caused the opposite effect,but GT-AgNPs had no such observable *** dichroism studies indicated that the AgNPs had no such appreciable impact on the secondary structure of *** key findings of this research included the synthesis of AgNPs using GT extract and its constituent polyphenols,and showed significant antibacterial,anticancer and protein-binding ***-OH groups of the polyphenols drive the in situ capping/stabilization of the AgNPs during synthesis,which might offer new opportunities having implications for nanomedicine and nanodiagnostics.

Objective:To study the in vivo efficacy of these two ACTs in the treatment of Plasmodium falciparum {*** malaria) in Kolkata and to detennine the prevalence of mutant S769N codon of the PfATPase6 gene among field isolates of *** collected from the study area. High Performance Novel Square Root Architecture Using Ancient Indian Mathematics for High Speed Signal Processing

Novel high speed energy efficient square root architecture has been reported in this paper. In this architecture, we have blended ancient Indian Vedic mathematics and Bakhshali mathematics to achieve a significant amount of accuracy in performing the square root operation. Basically, Vedic Duplex method and iterative division method reported in Bakhshali Manuscript have been utilized for that computation. The proposed technique has been compared with the well known Newton-Raphson’s (N-R) technique for square root computation. The algorithm has been implemented and tested using Modelsim simulator, and performance parameters such as the number of lookup tables, propagation delay and power consumption have been estimated using Xilinx ISE simulator. The functionality of the circuitry has been checked using Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA board.

Direct choline administration in semi-intensive pisciculture system: A positive contaminant

Present work evaluated the possible impact of choline on metabolic enzymes of cultured fish species into a semi-intensive pond culture system,reared with Catla catla(catla),Labeo rohita(rahu),Clarias batracus(magur)and Anabas testudineus(climbing perch)for 90 days in two *** was added directly into the pond water periodically throughout the experimental *** water quality parameters of each experimental pond were monitored and were analyzed in 15 days interval throughout the experimental tenure in both the *** were compared with treatment as choline-fed and control as non-choline-fed conditions during breeding(June-Aug.)and dry(Nov.-Jan.)*** metabolic enzymes,viz.,LDH(Lactate dehydrogenase),MDH(Malate dehydrogenase),and G6PDH(Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase)activities in the muscle,liver,and AchE(Acetylcholine esterase)activity in the brain and muscle revealed maximum significantly(p<0.01),but ALT(Alanine aminotransferase)and AST(Aspartate aminotransferase)activity showed significant(p<0.01)depletion in the muscle and liver in treatment-breeding(TB)*** fishes under treatment-dry(TD)condition presented significant(p<0.01)higher elevation in HK(Hexokinase)activity in the muscle and ***,the result of principal component analysis(PCA)depicted the positive as well as in some cases a negative correlation among the enzymatic activities both in dry and breeding ***,it can be inferred that choline enrichment in fishes can substantiate the well nutritionally balanced food-flesh for consumption under this farm culture and the choline behaved as a positive contaminant into the pond eco-system under the semi-intensive culture condition.

Large-signal characterizations of DDR IMPATT devices based on group Ⅲ–Ⅴ semiconductors at millimeter-wave and terahertz frequencies

Large-signal （L-S） characterizations of double-drift region （DDR） impact avalanche transit time （IM- PATT） devices based on group III-V semiconductors such as wurtzite （Wz） GaN, GaAs and InP have been carried out at both millimeter-wave （mm-wave） and terahertz （THz） frequency bands. A L-S simulation technique based on a non-sinusoidal voltage excitation （NSVE） model developed by the authors has been used to obtain the high frequency properties of the above mentioned devices. The effect of band-to-band tunneling on the L-S properties of the device at different mm-wave and THz frequencies are also investigated. Similar studies are also carried out for DDR IMPATTs based on the most popular semiconductor material, i.e. Si, for the sake of comparison. A compara- tive study of the devices based on conventional semiconductor materials （i.e. GaAs, InP and Si） with those based on Wz-GaN shows significantly better performance capabilities of the latter at both mm-wave and THz frequencies.

In this paper,focus has been given to design and implement signed binary subtraction in quantum *** the type of operand may be positive or negative,therefore a novel algorithm has been developed to detect the type of operand and as per the selection of the type of operands,separate design techniques have been developed to make the circuit compact and work very *** separate methods have been shown in the paper to perform the signed *** results show promising for the second method in respect of ancillary input count and garbage output count but at the cost of quantum cost.
