Continuum manipulators(CM)are soft and flexible manipulators with large numbers of degrees of freedom and can perform complex tasks in an unstructured environment.However,their deformability and compliance can deviate distal tip under uncertain external interactions.To address this challenge,a novel tension-based control scheme has been proposed to modulate the stiffness of a tendon-driven CM,reducing the tip position errors caused by uncertain external forces.To minimize the tip position error,a virtual spring is positioned between the deviated and the desired tip positions.The proposed algorithm corrects the manipulator deviated tip position,improving tension distribution and stiffness profile,resulting in higher stiffness and better performance.The corresponding task space stiffness and condition numbers are also computed under different cases,indicating the effectiveness of the tension control scheme in modulating the manipulator's stiffness.Experimental validation conducted on an in-house developed prototype confirms the practical feasibility of the proposed approach.

In light of the evolving nature of various diseases,time becomes a crucial factor in diagnosis and identifying the underlying causes.A point-of-care device provides a rapid diagnosis of a disease without using complex and advanced instruments,which are costly and difficult to transport.A paper-based device is a relatively frugal solution wherein the paper is used as a substratum in which the reactions are carried out.These methods are non-invasive,and the sample collection is relatively easy.Saliva is one such body fluid in which various biomarkers are present for numerous diseases.Bioanalysis of saliva has attracted more attention recently due to its non-invasiveness and robustness.Exploiting the discovery of clinical biomarkers from salivary analysis has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare sector by providing crucial information to monitor the health status of individuals and disease progression which enables personalized treatment.This review provides the limitation of the traditional methods in clinical applications and highlights the significance of saliva as a non-invasive biological fluid that is a source of multiple biomarkers associated with various diseases.It also provides insights into the different paper-based colorimetric microfluidic devices developed against salivary biomarkers in the past decade.The major challenges in the point-of-care application and the future prospects have been discussed as well.Further,we also emphasize the importance of this approach in dental disease diagnosis which is least explored and holds potential applications.

Purpose:This study aimed to investigate the possible association between psychological disorders and riskydriving behavior(RDB)in Iran.Methods:This case-control study conducted in Shiraz,Iran in 2021.The case group included drivers with psychological disorders and the control group included those without any disorders.The inclusion criteria for selecting patients were:active driving at the time of the study,being 18-65 years old,having a driving license,having a psychological disorder including depression,bipolar disorder,anxiety spectrum disorder,or psychotic disorder spectrum confirmed by a psychiatrist,and completing an informed consent form.The exclusion criterion was the existence of conditions that interfered with answering and understanding the questions.The inclusion criteria for selecting the healthy cases were:active driving at the time of the study,being 18-65 years old,having a driving license,lack of any past or present history of psychiatric problems,and completing an informed consent form.The data were gathered using a researcher-made checklist and Manchester driving behavior questionnaire.First,partition around medoids method was used to extract clusters of RDB.Then,backward logistic regression was applied to investigate the association between the independent variables and the clusters of RDB.Results:The sample comprised of 344(153 with psychological disorder and 191 without confirmed psychological disorder)drivers.Backward elimination logistic regression on total data revealed that share of medical expenditure≤10%of total household expenditure(OR=3.27,95%Cl:1.48-7.24),psychological disorder(OR=3.08,95%Cl:1.67-5.70),and substance abuse class(OR=6.38,95%CI:3.55-11.48)wereassociatedwithhighlevelof RDB.Conclusion:Substance abuse,psychological illnesses,and share of medical costs from total household expenditure were found to be main predictors of RDB.Further investigations are necessary to explain the impact of different psychological illnesses on driving behavior.

The idea of linear Diophantine fuzzy set(LDFS)theory with its control parameters is a strong model for machine learning and optimization under uncertainty.The activity times in the critical path method(CPM)representation procedures approach are initially static,but in the Project Evaluation and Review Technique(PERT)approach,they are probabilistic.This study proposes a novel way of project review and assessment methodology for a project network in a linear Diophantine fuzzy(LDF)environment.The LDF expected task time,LDF variance,LDF critical path,and LDF total expected time for determining the project network are all computed using LDF numbers as the time of each activity in the project network.The primary premise of the LDF-PERT approach is to address ambiguities in project network activity timesmore simply than other approaches such as conventional PERT,Fuzzy PERT,and so on.The LDF-PERT is an efficient approach to analyzing symmetries in fuzzy control systems to seek an optimal decision.We also present a new approach for locating LDF-CPM in a project network with uncertain and erroneous activity timings.When the available resources and activity times are imprecise and unpredictable,this strategy can help decision-makers make better judgments in a project.A comparison analysis of the proposed technique with the existing techniques has also been discussed.The suggested techniques are demonstrated with two suitable numerical examples.

BACKGROUND Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis(PCI),characterized by a collection of gas-filled cysts in the intestinal wall,is an uncommon but well-known condition in gastroenterology.Abdominal pain is the most frequent symptom associated with PCI.Intussusception represents a potential cause of recurrent abdominal pain or emergency presentation.However,the occurrence of colonic intussusception secondary to PCI is very unusual in adulthood.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old male,known with idiopathic PCI,presented seventeen months after initial diagnosis with a new right upper quadrant pain.A computed tomographyscan demonstrated a colonic intussusception at the hepatic flexure.PCI did not progress compared with initial investigation.The patient underwent an emergency right hemicolectomy.CONCLUSION Resection was recommended in this case because PCI proved to be persisting with no identified curable cause.Surgery allowed to address the underlying pathology,the potential relapse of intussusception,and the likely cause of recurrent abdominal pain,either invagination or PCI itself.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease, and its prevalence is rising. NAFLD is closely associated with metabolic syndrome, with both conditions sharing common clinical characteristics such as obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hypertriglyceridemia. Several observational studies have evaluated the relationship between NAFLD and hypertension, with the overall evidence suggesting a bidirectional relationship. It is hypothesized that activation of the sympathetic nervous and renin-angiotensin systems, observed in NAFLD with or without insulin resistance promotes the development of hypertension. In patients with hypertension, activation of these systems can lead to hepatic fibrosis and progressive inflammation through increased oxidative stress and activation of hepatic stellate cells and Kupffer cells. The present review examines the pathophysiologic and clinical evidence supporting the bidirectional association between NAFLD and hypertension.

针对煤矿井下采集到的图像对比度低、光照不均和细节信息弱等问题,提出一种基于色相-饱和度-明度(Hue-Saturation-Value,HSV)颜色空间的煤矿井下低光照图像增强方法。该方法基于图像的HSV空间,通过对低光照图像的亮度通道V通道的主要结构和边缘细节分别进行对比度增强,这样可以更好地抑制图像细节丢失,同时可以较好地再现原图中的轮廓和纹理细节。首先,将输入的煤矿井下低光照图像转换到HSV空间,利用相对全变分滤波(RTV)与改进的边窗滤波(SWF),分别对提取的V通道图像进行主要结构提取和轮廓边缘保留,对其非线性灰度拉伸后利用主成分分析融合技术(PCA)重构V通道图像,即融合V通道图像的主要结构和精细结构,最后合成图像,完成图像增强。通过实验验证,提出的基于HSV空间的煤矿井下低光照图像增强方法,在色彩和边缘模糊处理等方面表现良好,在煤矿井下工作面等环境中,对图像进行定量和定性实验,结果表明,与6种方法相比,增强图像的对比度、自然度和图像细节方面表现更好。

This paper addresses the power quality improvement of a single-phase utility grid using a thirteen-level dualboost inverter(TLDBI)-shunt active filter(SAF).The TLDBI uses a single DC source of low voltage magnitude and five switched capacitor arrangement to achieve self-balanced thirteen level output voltages.Moreover,the charging and voltage balancing of the capacitor is achieved by proper switching sequence control in a series,through which boosted inverter output voltage levels are obtained.Compared with the tradional H-bridge multilevel inverters(MLIs),all the elements in the proposed TLDBI are able to withstand a voltage stress which is equal to the input DC source.This feature ensures the performance of the proposed TLDBI in high-frequency applications.The power at the electrical grid is highly affected by a wide range of non-linear loads.The proposed SAF is used for measuring and controlling the current flow from source to load.The difference between the targeted and actual currents from the utility grid is measured by using the modified synchronous reference frame(SRF)theory.The estimated error current is used by the controllers to predict the optimum suitable switching angle and modulation index(MI)to the TLDBI-SAF.In this paper,the traditional proportional-integral(PI)controller,fuzzy logic controller(FLC)and proportional resonant controller(PRC)are compared and the results are presented to validate the performance of SAF.The stability and robustness of the proposed controller is evaluated using Bode,Root locus,and Nyquist plots.The modeling and analysis of the proposed system are done using MATLAB/Simulink environments.The simulation results are presented in the various MI of TLDBI and also subjected to non-linear load conditions.The results are also compared to the claim novelty of the proposed study.

BACKGROUND There is an unmet need to evaluate the burden of cardiometabolic risk factors in young South Asian adults,who are not preselected for glycaemia.AIM To evaluate young North Indian men(aged 20-50 years)for burden of cardiometabolic risk factors,in relation to parameters of homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)and beta-cell function(oral disposition index[oDI]).METHODS Study participants were invited in a fasting state.Sociodemographic,anthropometric,and medical data were collected,and 75 g oral glucose tolerance test was performed with serum insulin and plasma glucose estimation at 0,30,and 120 min.Participants were divided into quartiles for HOMA-IR and oDI(category 1:Best HOMA-IR/oDI quartile;category 3:Worst HOMA-IR/oDI quartile)and composite HOMA-IR/oDI phenotypes(phenotype 1:Best quartile for both HOMA-IR and oDI;phenotype 4:Worst quartile for both HOMA-IR and oDI)were derived.RESULTS We evaluated a total of 635 men at a mean(±SD)age of 33.9±5.1 years and body mass index of 26.0±3.9 kg/m^(2).Diabetes and prediabetes were present in 34(5.4%)and 297(46.8%)participants,respectively.Overweight/obesity,metabolic syndrome,and hypertension were present in 388(61.1%),258(40.6%),and 123(19.4%)participants,respectively.The prevalence of dysglycaemia,metabolic syndrome,and hypertension was significantly higher in participants belonging to the worst HOMA-IR and oDI quartiles,either alone(category 3 vs 1)or in combination(phenotype 4 vs 1).The adjusted odds ratios for dysglycaemia(6.5 to 7.0-fold),hypertension(2.9 to 3.6-fold),and metabolic syndrome(4.0 to 12.2-fold)were significantly higher in individuals in the worst quartile of HOMA-IR and oDI(category 3),compared to those in the best quartile(category 1).The adjusted odds ratios further increased to 21.1,5.6,and 13.7,respectively,in individuals with the worst,compared to the best composite HOMA-IR/oDI phenotypes(phenotype 4 vs 1).CONCLUSION The burden of cardiometabolic risk factors is high among young Asian Indian men.Our findings hig

Railway switches and crossings constitute a small fraction of linear track length but consume a large proportion of the railway track system maintenance budget.While switch and crossing(S&C)faults rarely prevent trains from running,switches and crossings are the source of many faults and need continual attention.On the rare occasions when trains are prevented from running the cost of the disruption is very high.Condition monitoring of the point operating equipment that moves the switchblades has been in use for many years but condition monitoring of the state of the switch in terms of the support and mechanical damage as trains pass over has only recently started to become possible.To this end,it is important to understand the correlation between S&C faults and sensor data that can detect those faults.This paper assesses some of the data collected from multiple sensors variously positioned on and around a switch and crossing on the UK mainline for a few days of normal train operation.Accelerometers,geophones,and strain gauges were installed at the locations where they were anticipated to be most useful.Forces at the load transfer point on the crossing nose were estimated from two separate strain gauge bridges and possible use of acceleration on the crossing is discussed.Correlations between different data are analysed and assessed and correlation between peak estimated load transfer forces and accelerations is presented.Based on the analysis,conclusions are drawn about the different types of dynamic information around S&Cs that can be obtained from a variety of sensor types.
