Three Keggin-type heteropolyanions, namely H3PMo12O40-13H2O, （NH4）3PMo12O40·4H2O and H3PW12O40·13H2O were prepared and tested in the ring-opening polymerization reaction of tetrahydrofuran. The effects of the counter-cation （H＋, NH4＋） and the peripheral atoms （Mo, W） on the polymerization were investigated. It has been found that when the protons of H3PMo12O40·13H2O were replaced by the ammonium cations the polymerization rate decreased dramatically. Whereas, when the peripheral atoms （Mo） were replaced by their homologous （W）, the polymerization rate increased twofold. As for the viscosity average molecular weight （My） of polymer products, it was found that the high molecular weight （7930） was obtained by using H3PW12O40·13H2O. The molecular weight （My） obtained by H3PMo12O40·13H2O and （NH4）H3PMo12O40·13H2O was 6470 and 6810, respectively.

This study investigated the mechanical properties of beech(Fagus sylvatica L.)and fir(Abies alba)wood from Bosnia and Herzegovina under outdoor *** were exposed for 3-month exposure to assess bending strength,color changes,and surface *** showed outdoor exposure negatively affected mechanical properties,particularly in samples with extended finger joints,causing significant surface cracks in uncoated *** wood exhibited notable color changes under exposure,with approximately 50%darkening without coating compared to 25%under covered *** samples displayed minimal color changes,affirming the efficacy of surface *** wood exhibited a roughness of 8.264μm,while beechwood average roughness increased from 6.767 to 13.916μm after exposure,with micro-pore development affecting water *** analysis identified prevalent fungal colonies,including Penicillium,Aureobasidium,Sclerophoma,and Chaetomium,underscoring their role in organic matter *** study highlights the importance of wood exposure and treatment selection for various applications.

AIM: To assess the efficacy and safety of combinedpegylated interferon and ribavirin therapy in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in renal transplant recipients. METHODS: This is a retrospective chart review of post renal transplant patients who were positive for anti-HCV and HCV-RNA, and who have received treatment with combination of pegylated interferon and ribavirin between October 2003 and December 2008. Only patients with stable graft function and absence of evidence of cirrhosis and who received the therapy for continuous 48 wk were included. Nineteen patients (13 male and 6 female) were identified and included. The patient's complete blood count, liver and kidney prof ile, and cal- culated glomerular f iltration rate (GFR) were monitored every 6-8 wk while on treatment. HCV-RNA was tested at 12 wk for early virological response, at 48 wk for end of treatment response (ETR), and then retested at 24, and 48 wk after completion of therapy for sustained virological response (SVR). Liver biopsies were obtained before treatment from all patients and graft kidney biopsies were performed as required. RESULTS: Of the entire cohort, 9 patients (47.4%) showed an ETR and 8 had SVR (42.1%). Of the 8 patients with abnormal alanine aminotransferase (alT) levels at baseline, 78.9% had their alT normalized (including the virological non responders). alT was normal in all responders at the end of therapy and at 24 wk post therapy (100%). Only one patient (5.3%) developed an increase in creatinine and decline in GFR from baseline towards the end of treatment. This patient's kidney biopsy revealed borderline rejection. There was no impact on response by HCV-genotype, initial HCV RNA load, age or sex of the patient or duration post transplant before commencement of therapy. all patients tolerated treatment in the same way as non-transplant with no unusual or increased occurrence of side effects. The paper presents an investigation of energy and exergy analysis of an existing ORC （organic rankine cycle） unit powered by hot geothermal water. The validated model of this unit was used to examine 25 refrigerants belonging to different chemical compositions. The study revealed that R141b and R123 produced the best net power, energy efficiency, and exergy efficiency, whereas R125 was the lowest. Hydrofluorocarbons （except R143a）, hydrocarbons, and inorganic reflected attractive energy and exergy efficiencies. all investigated mixtures gained low performance compared with other studied candidates. The R245ca was the best among the hydrofluorocarbons studied refrigerants, and R501 was the best among the mixture refrigerants. Furthermore, within the ORC system, the evaporator was found to have the highest exergy destruction and the refrigerant pump was the lowest.

Gibberellins(GAs)are an important hormone in regulating plant growth and development,and DELLA protein is an essential negative regulator of GA signal *** aim of the study was to clone a GAinhibiting protein DELLA from trifoliate orange(Poncirus trifoliata ***.)and to analyze the bioinformations and expression patterns of the protein gene in tissues and in response to drought stress.A DELLA protein was isolated from trifoliate orange and named as PtGai(Genebank number:MZ170959).The PtGai protein had 1731 bp open reading frames,along with 576 amino acid codes,and also grouped with sweet orange(XM_006430552.4).The PtGai protein sequence was 65%homology with the sequences of DELLA proteins in other plant *** protein existed in the nucleus based on the prediction of subcellular *** protein could be expressed in roots,stems,and leaves,along with the highest expression in *** was upregulated by drought stress in leaves and roots,along with the decrease of root total GA concentration and the inhibition of shoot and root biomass *** indicated the characteristics of PtGai protein and the roles of PtGai in GA synthesis and plant growth.

A potted experiment was carried out to study the effect of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus(Diversispora versiformis)and arbuscular mycorrhizal like fungus(Piriformospora indica)on antioxidant enzyme defense system of Satsuma orange(Citrus sinensis *** 4)grafted on Poncirus trifoliata under favourable temperature(25°C)and cold temperature(0°C)for 12 *** short-term treatment of cold temperature did not cause any significant change in root fungal colonization and spore density in *** cold stress,*** inoculation did not change the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),and peroxidase(POD)in leaves and roots,whereas *** inoculation significantly increased the activity of CAT in roots and POD in leaves *** addition,inoculation of two mycorrhizal fungi under cold stress significantly increased the relative expression levels of PtPOD and PtF-SOD in leaves,*** up-regulated the expression levels of PtCu/Zn-SOD in leaves,and *** also induced the expression levels of PtMn-SOD and PtCAT1 in *** addition,inoculated Oita 4 trees maintained significantly lower hydrogen peroxide levels and malondialdehyde contents in leaves and roots under cold temperature,suggesting lower oxidative ***,we concluded that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(especially ***)mainly induced the expression of antioxidant enzyme genes,depending on the fungal species,and thus mitigated oxidative damage for higher cold resistance in inoculated plants.

AIM:To investigate the associations between CDH1 gene polymorphisms and gastric cancer(GC) risk ***:We analyzed four CDH1 polymorphisms(+54 T>C,-160 C>A,-616 G>C,-3159 T>C) in an Omani population,by extraction of genomic DNA from the peripheral blood of 192 patients with GC and 170 control participants and performed CDH1 genotyping using DNA ***:CDH1-160-AA genotype was associated with an increased risk of GC(OR = 3.6,95% CI:1.1-11.8)(P = 0.03).There was no significant association between the other polymorphisms and GC *** haplotype analysis of +54 T>C,-160 C>A,-616 G>C,-3159 T>C genotypes revealed that the OR of CCGC and CAGC haplotypes was 1.5(95% CI:0.7-3.5) and 1.5(95% CI:0.2-3.0),but did not reach statistical ***:The current study suggests that the-160 AA genotype was associated with an increased risk of GC in Oman.
