Experimental charge density distribution and its correlation to structural and optical properties of Sm^3＋ doped Nd2O3 nanophosphors

Pure and Smdoped NdOnanophosphors were synthesized using modified Pechini method. The phase formation with symmetry of the sample is confirmed by the Rietveld refinement of the powder Xray diffraction(PXRD) data. The surface morphology and the crystallite size were examined using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and the results confirmed that the synthesized particles are in nanosize. The energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX) analysis was done to confirm the purity of the sample. The optical properties of the sample were studied using ultraviolet-visible range(UV-Vis) spectroscopic analysis and photoluminescence studies. The calculated band gap of the synthesized NdOwas found to be higher than that of bulk NdO. The photoluminescence(PL) of the prepared samples reveals that doping with Sm3+ ion has influenced the optical properties. Quantitative investigation on charge density distribution was done by analysing the 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional charge density maps drawn along the bonding directions. The maximum entropy method(MEM)/Rietveld analysis was used for the first time to analyse the charge density in the chosen system. Charge density arrangement in the unit cell is correlated to the analysed photoluminescent(PL) properties. The spectral behaviour of the samples has been explained through charge ordering which are verified using experimental data obtained. The studies on these materials have shown that these nanophosphors will provide promising application for near-ultraviolet lightemitting diodes(n-UV-LEDs).

Genus Talipariti has long history of use in various traditional medicine therapeutic applications in Cuba, especially intreatment of bronchial asthma and flu. Petals of genus Talipariti are rich source of secondary metabolites and most of these metabolitesare reported to possess expectorant, antasthmatic, appetitive, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. Hence, in our study, we present avalidated, sensitive, reliable, and cheap narrow-bore UHPLC-UV-ESI-MS/MS coupled to PDA （photodiode array detectors） methodfor the simultaneous isolation and identification of flavonoids and their glycosidic derivatives in this flower drug. In addition, abouttwelve compounds were identified in this specie based on chromatography retention time （tR）, UV and MS/MS spectra and comparedwith those of isolated authentic compound and literature data. About eighth constituents were reported for the first time from Taliparitielatum. Our results demonstrated the developed method could be employed as a rapid and versatile analytical technique foridentification of chemical constituents and quality control of Talipariti elatum.

Additively manufactured Ti–Ta–Cu alloys for the next-generation load-bearing implants

Bacterial colonization of orthopedic implants is one of the leading causes of failure and clinical complexities for load-bearing metallic implants. Topical or systemic administration of antibiotics may not offer the most efficient defense against colonization, especially in the case of secondary infection, leading to surgical removal of implants and in some cases even limbs. In this study, laser powder bed fusion was implemented to fabricate Ti3Al2V alloy by a 1:1 weight mixture of CpTi and Ti6Al4V powders. Ti-Tantalum(Ta)–Copper(Cu) alloys were further analyzed by the addition of Ta and Cu into the Ti3Al2V custom alloy. The biological,mechanical, and tribo-biocorrosion properties of Ti3Al2V alloy were evaluated. A 10 wt.% Ta(10Ta) and 3 wt.% Cu(3Cu) were added to the Ti3Al2V alloy to enhance biocompatibility and impart inherent bacterial resistance. Additively manufactured implants were investigated for resistance against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus strains of bacteria for up to 48 h. A 3 wt.% Cu addition to Ti3Al2V displayed improved antibacterial efficacy, i.e.78%–86% with respect to CpTi. Mechanical properties for Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy were evaluated, demonstrating excellent fatigue resistance, exceptional shear strength, and improved tribological and tribo-biocorrosion characteristics when compared to Ti6Al4V. In vivo studies using a rat distal femur model revealed improved early-stage osseointegration for alloys with10 wt.% Ta addition compared to CpTi and Ti6Al4V. The 3 wt.% Cu-added compositions displayed biocompatibility and no adverse infammatory response in vivo. Our results establish the Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy’s synergistic effect on improving both in vivo biocompatibility and microbial resistance for the next generation of load-bearing metallic implants.

Validity of automated refraction after segmented refractive multifocal intraocular lens implantation

AIM： To evaluate the clinical utility of automated refraction（ar） and keratometry（KR） compared with subjective or manifest refraction（MR） after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery with implantation of Lentis Mplus X（Oculentis GmbH） refractive multifocal intraocular lens（IOL）.METHODS： Eighty-six eyes implanted with the Lentis Mplus X multifocal IOL were included. MR was performed in all patients followed by three consecutive ar measurements using the Topcon KR-8000 autorefractor. Assessment of repeatability of consecutive ar before and after dilation with phenylephrine 10%, and comparison of the ar and KR with MR using vector analysis were performed at 3 mo ***： Analysis showed excellent repeatability of the ar measurements. Linear regression of ar versus MR showed good correlation for sphere and spherical equivalent, whereas the correlation for astigmatism was low. The mean difference ar-MR was-1.28±0.29 diopters（D） for sphere. Astigmatism showed better correlation between KR and MR. CONCLUSION： We suggest ar sphere plus 1.25 D and the KR cylinder as the star.ing point for MR in eyes with a Lentis Mplus X multifocal IOL. If ar measurements are equal to MR, decentration of the IOL should be suspected.

Porous and functionally graded materials have seen extensive applications in modern biomedical devices—allowing for improved site-specific performance;their appreciable mechanical,corrosive,and biocompatible properties are highly sought after for lightweight and high-strength load-bearing orthopedic and dental *** of such porous materials are metals,ceramics,and ***,easy to manufacture and lightweight,porous polymers do not inherently exhibit the required mechanical strength for hard tissue repair or ***,porous ceramics are brittle and do not possess the required fatigue *** the other hand,porous biocompatible metals have shown tailorable strength,fatigue resistance,and ***,a significant interest in investigating the manufacturing challenges of porous metals has taken place in recent *** research has shown that once the advantages of porous metallic structures in the orthopedic implant industry have been realized,their biological and biomechanical compatibility—with the host bone—has been followed up with extensive methodical *** manufacturing methods for porous or functionally graded metals are discussed and compared in this review,specifically,how the manufacturing process influences microstructure,graded composition,porosity,biocompatibility,and mechanical *** of the studies discussed in this review are related to porous structures for bone implant applications;however,the understanding of these investigations may also be extended to other devices beyond the biomedical field.

【目的】选择通用的荧光SSR分子标记建立桃种质资源基因型数据库便于进行种质特异性鉴定、资源交换、管理和利用。【方法】根据48个SSR标记对国内外669份桃品系的遗传多样性测试结果，从中选择出一部分多态信息含量较高、适合品种鉴别的标记，采用不同荧光标识组合在ABI3130测序仪测试，为了使不同批次的测试结果准确可靠，6—8个参照品种纳入每次的测试中。结果用16个SSR标记基本可以判断品种的特异性，它们可以用4种荧光标识进行标记，便于分为4组在ABI遗传分析仪上测试。目前数据库包含641份材料．基因型一致的品系多为同一品种突变体和自交系演化的地方品种。文中列出了100份中国代表性种质资源分子标记数据库，并建议8个中国品系为参照。对17个桃品种进行系谱验证发现，我国资源圃所育成的7个品种系谱信息正确，但日本桃品种系谱信息与文献出现偏差。【结论】应用16个多态性高的SSR荧光标记可以构建精确的桃品种分子指纹数据库，测试方法及结果对品种特异性和系谱鉴定提供重要的参考．推动资源分子指纹数据库标准化建设工作。

Connexin 43 hemichannels protect bone loss during estrogen deficiency

Estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women is a major cause of bone loss,resulting in osteopenia,osteoporosis,and a high risk for bone *** 43 (Cx43) hemichannels (HCs) in osteocytes play an important role in osteocyte viability,bone formation,and *** showed here that estrogen deficiency reduced Cx43 expression and HC *** determine if functional HCs protect osteocytes and bone loss during estrogen deficiency,we adopted an ovariectomy model in wild-type (WT) and two transgenic Cx43 mice:R76W (dominant-negative mutant inhibiting only gap junction channels) and Cx43 Δ130–136 (dominant-negative mutant compromising both gap junction channels and HCs).The bone mineral density (BMD),bone structure,and histomorphometric changes of cortical and trabecular bones after ovariectomy were *** results showed that the Δ130–136 transgenic cohort had greatly decreased vertebral trabecular bone mass compared to WT and R76W mice,associated with a significant increase in the number of apoptotic osteocyte and empty ***,osteoclast surfaces in trabecular and cortical bones were increased after ovariectomy in the R76W and WT mice,respectively,but not in Δ130–136 *** data demonstrate that impairment of Cx43 HCs in osteocytes accelerates vertebral trabecular bone loss and increase in osteocyte apoptosis,and further suggest that Cx43 HCs in osteocytes protect trabecular bone against catabolic effects due to estrogen deficiency.
