Biochar-compost-based controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer intended for an active microbial community

Nitrogen(N) fertilizers in agriculture suffer losses by volatilization of N to the air, surface runoff and leaching into the soil, resulting in low N use efficiency(NUE)( 50%) and raising severe environmental pollutions. Controlledrelease nitrogen fertilizers(CRNFs) can control the release of N nutrients to NUE in crop production. Different methods were used to develop new ***, different CRNF technologies are still underdeveloped due to inadequate controlling on N releasing time and/or unsustainable diffusion. The study on the influences of CRNF processing parameters on microbial conditions are lacking when the CRNFs composed of various bio-ingredients such as biochar, composts, and biowaste. The complexity of processing methods, material biodegradability, and other physical properties make current CRNFs of questionable value in agricultural production. This research aims to develop a novel biochar-compost-based controlled-release urea fertilizer(BCRUF) to preserve microbial properties carried by the compost. The BCRUF was synthesized by pelletizing the 50:50(dry, wt/wt) mixture of biochar and compost. BCRUF was loaded with urea and then spray-coated with polylactic acid(pLA). The releasing time of two types of BCRUFs, coated and uncoated with pLA, for 80% of N release in water was up to 6 h at three different temperatures(4, 23, and 40 °C), compared to conventional urea fertilizer and commercial environmentally smart N(ESN) fertilizer. The releasing time of coated BCRUF for 80% N release in soil was up to 192 h(8 days). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) analysis revealed that no new functional groups were found in the release solution, indicating no new chemical hazards generated. The differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)tests also verified that its thermal stability could be up to 160 °C. The role of complement C5a receptor in DpSC odontoblastic differentiation and in vivo reparative dentin formation

Sclerostin antibody improves alveolar bone quality in the Hyp mouse model of X-linked hypophosphatemia

X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is a rare disease of elevated fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) production that leads tohypophosphatemia and impaired mineralization of bone and teeth. The clinical manifestations of XLH include a high prevalence ofdental abscesses and periodontal disease, likely driven by poorly formed structures of the dentoalveolar complex, including thealveolar bone, cementum, dentin, and periodontal ligament. Our previous studies have demonstrated that sclerostin antibody (SclAb) treatment improves phosphate homeostasis, and increases long bone mass, strength, and mineralization in the Hyp mousemodel of XLH. In the current study, we investigated whether Scl-Ab impacts the dentoalveolar structures of Hyp mice. Male andfemale wild-type and Hyp littermates were injected with 25 mg·kg−1 of vehicle or Scl-Ab twice weekly beginning at 12 weeks of ageand euthanized at 20 weeks of age. Scl-Ab increased alveolar bone mass in both male and female mice and alveolar tissue mineraldensity in the male mice. The positive effects of Scl-Ab were consistent with an increase in the fraction of active(nonphosphorylated) β-catenin, dentin matrix protein 1 (DMp1) and osteopontin stained alveolar osteocytes. Scl-Ab had no effecton the mass and mineralization of dentin, enamel, acellular or cellular cementum. There was a nonsignificant trend towardincreased periodontal ligament (pDL) attachment fraction within the Hyp mice. Additional pDL fiber structural parameters were notaffected by Scl-Ab. The current study demonstrates that Scl-Ab can improve alveolar bone in adult Hyp mice.

Anoctamin-5(ANO5)is a multi-pass membrane protein localized to the sarcolemma and the sarcoplasmic *** were linked to rare autosomal recessive muscle ***,we summarize the clinical spectrum,imaging data and molecular research findings as well as results of animal modeling,which significantly moved forward the understanding of mechanisms underlying ANO5-related muscle *** that precise histological information on inflammatory processes taking place in patient-derived muscle are still lacking,an(immuno)histological study on biopsies derived from six ANO5-patients was performed showing focal accumulation of necrotic fibers,mild fiber-size variances and *** addition,MRI data of four ANO5-patients(including a 10-year follow-up in one patient)are presented and discussed in the context of previously published ***,data presented in this article combining a review of the literature with own myopathological findings address scientific trends and open questions on ANO5-related muscle diseases,which would be of significant interest for a wide neuromuscular diseases *** conclude,a clear genotypeephenotype correlation does not exist,and ANO5-related muscle disorders might represent the next entity of a clinical continuum with varying degree of muscle cell *** addition,results of pre-clinical studies allowed the definition of suitable cell and animal models characterized by certain histological and functional pathologies resembling the human *** models might serve as suitable systems for testing of interventional concepts in future.

Digital maps of soil properties are now widely ***-users now can access several digital soil mapping(DSM)products of soil properties,produced using different models,calibration/training data,and covariates at various spatial scales from global to ***,there is an urgent need to provide easy-to-understand tools to communicate map uncertainty and help end-users assess the reliability of DSM products for use at local *** this study,we used a large amount of hand-feel soil texture(HFST)data to assess the performance of various published DSM products on the prediction of soil particle size distribution in Central *** tested four DSM products for soil texture prediction developed at various scales(global,continental,national,and regional)by comparing their predictions with approximately 3200 HFST observations realized on a 1:50000 soil survey conducted after release of these DSM *** used both visual comparisons and quantitative indicators to match the DSM predictions and HFST *** comparison between the low-cost HFST observations and DSM predictions clearly showed the applicability of various DSM products,with the prediction accuracy increasing from global to regional *** simple evaluation can determine which products can be used at the local scale and if more accurate DSM products are required.

Recent Advances in ^(19)Fluorine Magnetic Resonance Imaging with perfluorocarbon Emulsions

The research roots of ^(19)fluorine( ^(19)F) magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) date back over 35 years. Over that time span, ~1H imaging flourished and was adopted worldwide with an endless array of applications and imaging approaches, making magnetic resonance an indispensable pillar of biomedical diagnostic imaging. For many years during this timeframe, ^(19)F imaging research continued at a slow pace as the various attributes of the technique were explored. However, over the last decade and particularly the last several years, the pace and clinical relevance of ^(19)F imaging has exploded. In part, this is due to advances in MRI instrumentation, ^(19)F/~1H coil designs, and ultrafast pulse sequence development for both preclinical and clinical scanners. These achievements, coupled with interest in the molecular imaging of anatomy and physiology, and combined with a cadre of innovative agents, have brought the concept of ^(19)F into early clinical evaluation. In this review, we attempt to provide a slice of this rich history of research and development, with a particular focus on liquid perfl uorocarbon compound-based agents.

pure W and W-Cu-W trilayer coatings were deposited on an Fe substrate by d.c. magnetron sputtering. The α-β phase evolution, intragranular stress evolution in sputter-deposited W layer were investigated by x-ray diffraction. They are directly related to the film microstructure, density and adhesion. Therefore, control of the film stress and phase component transition is essential for its applications. The phase component transition from β-W to α-W and intragranular stress evolution from tensile to compressive strongly depend on the deposition parameters and can be induced by lowering ar pressure and rising target power. The compressively stressed films with α-W phase have a dense microstructure and high adhesion to Fe substrate.

Spondylocarpotarsal syndrome(SCT) is a rare musculoskeletal disorder characterized by short stature and vertebral, carpal, and tarsal fusions resulting from biallelic nonsense mutations in the gene encoding filamin B(FLNB). Utilizing a FLNB knockout mouse,we showed that the vertebral fusions in SCT evolved from intervertebral disc(IVD) degeneration and ossification of the annulus fibrosus(AF), eventually leading to full trabecular bone formation. This resulted from alterations in the TGFβ/BMp signaling pathway that included increased canonical TGFβ and noncanonical BMp signaling. In this study, the role of FLNB in the TGFβ/BMp pathway was elucidated using in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo treatment methodologies. The data demonstrated that FLNB interacts with inhibitory Smads 6 and 7(i-Smads) to regulate TGFβ/BMp signaling and that loss of FLNB produces increased TGFβ receptor activity and decreased Smad 1 ubiquitination. Through the use of small molecule inhibitors in an ex vivo spine model, TGFβ/BMp signaling was modulated to design a targeted treatment for SCT and disc degeneration. Inhibition of canonical and noncanonical TGFβ/BMp pathway activity restored Flnb-/-IVD morphology. These most effective improvements resulted from specific inhibition of TGFβand p38 signaling activation. FLNB acts as a bridge for TGFβ/BMp signaling crosstalk through i-Smads and is key for the critical balance in TGFβ/BMp signaling that maintains the IVD. These findings further our understanding of IVD biology and reveal new molecular targets for disc degeneration as well as congenital vertebral fusion disorders.

Objective:To evaluate the quality of arnebiae Radix(ar)and Dictamni Cortex(DC)and study the efficacy of herbal extracts of these two herbs on the treatment of allergic contact dermatitis(ACD).Methods:Qualitative and quantitative analysis of effective components was performed using High performance Thin Layer Chromatography(HpTLC),High performance Liquid Chromatography(HpLC),and HpLC-Quadrupole Time of Flight-Mass Spectrometry(HpLC-QTOF-MS).In vitro allergic ACD 3D model was established by incubating 3D reconstructed human epidermis(RHE)with skin sensitizer,potassium dichromate.A total of 65 gene expression that were associated with ACD,which included 24 antioxidant responsive element(arE)and 41 SENS-IS genes were quantified by q *** than or equal to 10 arE genes and 18 SENN-IS genes were induced by 1.3-fold,demonstrating the successful establishment of in vitro ACD *** extracts of ar and DC were applied on the in vitro ACD model to study the ***:Batch 3 of ar and batch 2 of DC showed presence of all active ingredients with the highest *** ingredients of the herbs were extracted using a special oil and formulated into herbal oil *** herbal oil extracts were able to down regulate the induced genes in the in-vitro ACD skin model,bringing the tissue back to homeostatic ***:The oil extracts showed the potent efficacy of using ar and DC in ACD *** combination study will be done to optimize the formulation ratio which will be developed into a topical cream.
