Comparison of Shisha Smoking Behavior among Medical and Pharmacy Students

Background: Health care workers are respected in every society and have a strong influence on the behaviour of the community. In order to reduce the shisha dependence in the Pakistani population, it is necessary to evaluate the perspective of future doctors and pharmacists regarding this addiction as they become role models for the future generations. Objective: The aim is to compare the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of shisha use among medical students and pharmacy students in order to assess their support in the anti-shisha campaigns of Pakistan. Methodology: Cross sectional study was performed in four major medical universities of Karachi, Pakistan through a modification of the WHO global health survey questionnaire. Result: 398 medical students and 470 pharmacy students were included in the study which showed that currently 9.6% pharmacy students and 4.8% medical students used shisha daily (p = 0.000). Pharmacy students started shisha use in less than 15 years of age while this number was 29.5% among medical students (P = 0.000). Moreover, 44.6% pharmacy students and 50% medical students were not planning to quit this addiction within the next six months. 14% of pharmacy students and 20.4% in medical students (P = 0.002) were unaware that passive smoking caused lung cancer, while 23.4% pharmacy students and 33.5% medical students rejected it as cause of heart diseases (p = 0.006). Conclusion: A significant number of medical and pharmacy students were unaware about some of the serious consequences of shisha smoking. Therefore, both groups of students need to be educated about the health hazards of shisha use, in order to control this growing menace.

Cotton is an economically important natural fiber in the world, whose seeds are used as food and fiber used in the manufacturing of textiles. Cotton is naturally a renewable synthetic fiber which is derived from petroleum. Restriction in conventional breeding program to hereditary change may be because of those of information something like yield revenue and fiber quality of traits. Vitally, the genome representation of the cotton for various traits is the basic need for breeding purposes. The present review discusses the issues of conventional breeding and genomics resources & efforts are utilized to enhance the yield of cotton.

Erianthus produces substantial biomass,exhibits a good Brix value,and shows wide environmental adaptability,making it a potential biofuel *** contrast to closely related sorghum and sugarcane,Erianthus can grow in degraded soils,thus releasing pressure on agricultural lands used for biofuel ***,the lack of genomic resources for Erianthus hinders its genetic improvement,thus limiting its potential for biofuel *** the present study,we generated a chromosome-scale reference genome for Erianthus fulvus *** genome size estimated by flow cytometry was 937 Mb,and the assembled genome size was 902 Mb,covering 96.26%of the estimated genome size.A total of 35065 proteincoding genes were predicted,and 67.89%of the genome was found to be repetitive.A recent wholegenome duplication occurred approximately 74.10 million years ago in the *** *** analysis showed that *** is evolutionarily closer to *** and diverged after *** of the 10 chromosomes of *** formed through rearrangements of ancestral *** reconstruction of the Saccharum complex revealed a polyphyletic origin of the complex and a sister relationship of *** with Saccharum sp.,excluding *** the basis of the four amino acid residues that provide substrate specificity,the *** SWEET proteins were classified as monoand disaccharide sugar ***-QTL genes identified for 10 biofuel-related traits may aid in the rapid screening of *** populations to enhance breeding programs for improved biofuel *** results of this study provide valuable insights for breeding programs aimed at improving biofuel production in *** and enhancing sugarcane introgression programs.

目的与意义:番茄红素是重要的天然类胡萝卜素,对人体具有保健作用,同时也是红色果肉西瓜中的主要色素,是决定西瓜果实品质的重要因素之一.栽培西瓜较低的DNA多态性阻碍了高质量遗传图谱的构建和番茄红素含量主效QTL的研究.该研究中,笔者成功地利用自行开发的CAPS标记构建了一个包含16个连锁群的西瓜遗传连锁图谱,该图谱将有利于西瓜果肉番茄红素含量关键基因确定及其克隆的进一步研究,同时为西瓜果肉番茄红素含量分子育种提供行之有效的分子标记.

Mysteries and Mysticism in the Arabian Desert

Saudi Arabia is rich not only in its oil, but also in its cultural heritages. With 1,500 rock arts and 4,000 archaeological sites it is the fourth largest rock art region in the world. The entire Saudi Arabia has been comprehensively surveyed, investigated, and documented under the auspices of the Saudi Arabian Department of Antiquities (now Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities). The archaeological and rock art investigations revealed tantalizing results providing the evidence of human presence in the Arabian Peninsula from the early Acheulean period until the present day. In addition to the ancient towns and cities like Madain Saleh (contemporary to Petra in Jordan), Tayma, Domat al-Jandal, Thaj, and al-Fao and Ukhdoud hundreds of strange, mysterious, and mystic structures and petrolyghs are located in the deserts of Arabia. A few of such sites are discussed in this paper, highlighting the strong but still unknown to the world the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia.

Sensitivity and Specificity of Various Serological Tests for Detection of Brucella spp. Infection in Male Goats and Sheep

Brucellosis is a zoonosis found throughout the world with major implications both in the field of public health and farming economy. It is most often caused by Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis. This study aimed for evaluation of the sensitivity and specificity of immunochromatographic assay (ICA) and comparing the results with those obtained from Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT) and in direct Enzyme Linked Immunsorbent Assay (ELISA) for serodiagnosis of sheep and goat brucellosis. Out of 41 sera samples (21 ram and 20 male goats) which were examined, antibodies against Brucella were detected in ram 8 (38.09%), 6 (28.57%) and 16 (76.19%) in ram samples, whereas they were detected in 3 (15%), 1 (5%) and 12 (60%) serum sample of goats males by RBPT, (ICA) and iELISA respectively. The kappa value between iELISA and ICA was -0.08 and that between RBPT and ELISA was -0.01 in ram and the kappa value between iELISA and ICA was -0.06 and that between RBPT and ELISA was -0.14 in male goats. The sensitivity for RBPT and ICA were 37.5% and 25% while specificity was 60% and 60% in ram;whereas, in male goats, sensitivity for RBPT was 8.33% and ICA was 8.33% while specificity was 75% and 100% respectively. It can be concluded that the developed ICA is immunodiagnostic assay, and it is rapid, non-expensive, economical and suitable for large-scale screening in developing countries and rural areas.

BM-MSCs Differentiated Insulin-Producing Cells Produce More Insulin in Presence of EGF than of FGF

Adult stem cells have the ability to differentiate into islet like cells for the hope of treating diabetes mellitus (DM). The most important part is the differentiation process from na?ve stem cells to fully differentiated fully functional islet cells. For this purpose, we wanted to optimize the current proposed differentiation media by replacing the FGF with EGF and measure insulin production. Bone marrow-derived MSCs were from mice long bones and expanded in cell culture before induction of differentiation. Stem cells surface markers were analyzed by immunocytochemistry. Cultured stem cells were negative for CD34 while they expressed high levels of CD90. Differentiated cells morphology was studied by using H & E stain. Differentiated cells were detected by studying protein expression of insulin as specific marker for IPC differentiation. Cells function was studied by measuring the insulin production in tissue culture supernatant in vitro and also insulin release in response to glucose challenge. Ditizone staining were both positive. Insulin was secreted by these cells in response to different concentrations of glucose stimulation in a regulated manner. Cells induced with formula contain EGF produced more insulin in the same formula but contain FGF instead, this prove that EGF is the best to use during differentiation process.
