The spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has resulted in significant casualties and put immense strain on public health systems worldwide,leading to economic recession and social unrest.In response,various prevention and control strategies have been implemented globally,including vaccine and drug development and the promotion of preventive measures.Implementing these strategies has effectively curbed the transmission of the virus,reduced infection rates,and gradually restored normal social and economic activities.However,the mutations of SARS-CoV-2 have led to inevitable infections and reinfections,and the number of deaths continues to rise.Therefore,there is still a need to improve existing prevention and control strategies,mainly focusing on developing novel vaccines and drugs,expediting medical authorization processes,and keeping epidemic surveillance.These measures are crucial to combat the Coronavirus disease(COVID-19)pandemic and achieve sustained,long-term prevention,management,and disease control.Here,we summarized the characteristics of existing COVID-19 vaccines and drugs and suggested potential future directions for their development.Furthermore,we discussed the COVID-19-related policies implemented over the past years and presented some strategies for the future.

Electroreduction of nitrate has been gaining wide attention in recent years owing to it's beneficial for converting nitrate into benign N_(2) from the perspective of electrocatalytic denitrification or into value-added ammonia from the perspective of electrocatalytic NH_(3) synthesis.By reason of the undesired formation of ammonia is dominant during electroreduction of nitrate-containing wastewater,chloride has been widely used to improve N_(2) selectivity.Nevertheless,selective electroreduction of nitrate to N2 gas in chloride-containing system poses several drawbacks.In this review,we focus on the key strategies for efficiently enhancing N_(2) selectivity of electroreduction of nitrate in chloride-free system,including optimal selection of elements,combining an active metal catalyst with another metal,manipulating the crystalline morphology and facet orientation,constructing core–shell structure catalysts,etc.Before summarizing the strategies,four possible reaction pathways of electro-reduction of nitrate to N_(2) are discussed.Overall,this review attempts to provide practical strategies for enhancing N2 selectivity without the aid of electrochlorination and highlight directions for future research for designing appropriate electrocatalyst for final electrocatalytic denitrifi-cation.

This study investigated how the Taihang Mountains and the Yanshan Mountains affect low-level jets(LLJs)in the Beijing area,based on conventional radiosonde observations from Nanjiao Observatory(2016–2017)and high-resolution Weather Research and Forecasting–Advanced Research WRF(WRF-ARW)model simulations.Analysis of radiosonde observations indicated that LLJs in the study area are mainly from the southwest and northwest directions,with occurrence frequency of 44.6%and 33.0%,respectively.Southwest(northwest)LLJs are aligned parallel(perpendicular)to the orientation of the Taihang Mountain Range.Terrain sensitivity experiments using the WRF-ARW model were then conducted to examine the effects of terrain forcing on the northwest and southwest LLJs,with adopted terrain heights of 100%and 50%.The results showed that for northwest LLJs,reduction in the elevation of the Taihang Mountain Range led to weakening of jet intensity by approximately 20%and reduction in jet maximum height by approximately 250 m;lowering the Yanshan Mountain Range had minor influence on the northwest LLJs,with only a 5.2%reduction in intensity and no substantial change in jet maximum height.For southwest LLJs,reduction in the elevation of both the Taihang and Yanshan Mountain ranges resulted in minor changes in the intensity and height of the jets.Further analysis revealed that the topography in the Beijing area could modulate the height and intensity of the stable layer by altering the inversion structure within the boundary layer.The LLJs can develop rapidly within the stable layer,and both the location and the scale of the jet core exhibited reasonable agreement with the extent of the stable layer.

Conventional wing aerodynamic optimization processes can be time-consuming and imprecise due to the complexity of versatile flight missions.Plenty of existing literature has considered two-dimensional infinite airfoil optimization,while three-dimensional finite wing optimizations are subject to limited study because of high computational costs.Here we create an adaptive optimization methodology built upon digitized wing shape deformation and deep learning algorithms,which enable the rapid formulation of finite wing designs for specific aerodynamic performance demands under different cruise conditions.This methodology unfolds in three stages:radial basis function interpolated wing generation,collection of inputs from computational fluid dynamics simulations,and deep neural network that constructs the surrogate model for the optimal wing configuration.It has been demonstrated that the proposed methodology can significantly reduce the computational cost of numerical simulations.It also has the potential to optimize various aerial vehicles undergoing different mission environments,loading conditions,and safety requirements.

The thermogravimetric analysis（TGA） experiments were carried out to reveal the mechanism of Zr and Mn doping on catalytic activity of CeO2catalyst both fresh and after hydrothermal aging,and the lattice morphology and valence changes were characterized by means of Brunauer-Emmett-Teller（BET）method,X-ray diffraction（XRD）,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）,and H2-temperature programmed reduction（H2-TPR）.Density functional theory（DFT） and molecular thermodynamics calculations were applied to investigate the change in catalytic activity,crystal surface energy and crystal morphology caused by hydrothermal aging.The maximum reaction rate temperature of fresh Mn/CeO2（389℃） is similar to that of CeO2（371℃） and lower than that of Zr/CeO2（447℃）,but the catalytic performance of CeO2decreases more severely after hydrothermal aging.The catalyst crystals show different degrees of crystal surface migration after hydrothermal aging,which leads to the reduction of Ce3+/Ce4+ratio and the active sites shift.DFT calculations indicate that the doping of Zr and Mn reduces the surface energy of the low Miller indices surface and increases the oxygen vacancy formation energy,leading to better thermal stability and lower catalytic activity.The Zr and Mn doping also changes the adsorption energy and Gibbs free energy of H2O,which dominates the migration of（1 1 1） to（1 1 0） and（1 0 0） in the vapor environment.The crystal surface migration mechanism of CeO2catalysts doped with Zr and Mn induced by H2O molecules at high temperature obtained in this study can provide a valuable addition to the regeneration of CeO2catalysts in the after-treatment systems of diesel engines.

Automated identification of steel weld defects,a convolutional neural network improved machine learning approach

This paper proposes a machine-learning-based methodology to automatically classify different types of steel weld defects,including lack of the fusion,porosity,slag inclusion,and the qualified(no defects)cases.This methodology solves the shortcomings of existing detection methods,such as expensive equipment,complicated operation and inability to detect internal defects.The study first collected percussed data from welded steel members with or without weld defects.Then,three methods,the Mel frequency cepstral coefficients,short-time Fourier transform(STFT),and continuous wavelet transform were implemented and compared to explore the most appropriate features for classification of weld statuses.Classic and convolutional neural network-enhanced algorithms were used to classify,the extracted features.Furthermore,experiments were designed and performed to validate the proposed method.Results showed that STFT achieved higher accuracies(up to 96.63%on average)in the weld status classification.The convolutional neural network-enhanced support vector machine(SVM)outperformed six other algorithms with an average accuracy of 95.8%.In addition,random forest and SVM were efficient approaches with a balanced trade-off between the accuracies and the computational efforts.

BACKGROUND Propofol and sevoflurane are commonly used anesthetic agents for maintenance anesthesia during radical resection of gastric cancer.However,there is a debate concerning their differential effects on cognitive function,anxiety,and depression in patients undergoing this procedure.AIM To compare the effects of propofol and sevoflurane anesthesia on postoperative cognitive function,anxiety,depression,and organ function in patients undergoing radical resection of gastric cancer.METHODS A total of 80 patients were involved in this research.The subjects were divided into two groups:Propofol group and sevoflurane group.The evaluation scale for cognitive function was the Loewenstein occupational therapy cognitive assessment(LOTCA),and anxiety and depression were assessed with the aid of the self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)and self-rating depression scale(SDS).Hemodynamic indicators,oxidative stress levels,and pulmonary function were also measured.RESULTS The LOTCA score at 1 d after surgery was significantly lower in the propofol group than in the sevoflurane group.Additionally,the SAS and SDS scores of the sevoflurane group were significantly lower than those of the propofol group.The sevoflurane group showed greater stability in heart rate as well as the mean arterial pressure compared to the propofol group.Moreover,the sevoflurane group displayed better pulmonary function and less lung injury than the propofol group.CONCLUSION Both propofol and sevoflurane could be utilized as maintenance anesthesia during radical resection of gastric cancer.Propofol anesthesia has a minimal effect on patients'pulmonary function,consequently enhancing their postoperative recovery.Sevoflurane anesthesia causes less impairment on patients'cognitive function and mitigates negative emotions,leading to an improved postoperative mental state.Therefore,the selection of anesthetic agents should be based on the individual patient's specific circumstances.

Detecting genes that affect specific traits(such as human diseases and crop yields)is important for treating complex diseases and improving crop quality.A genome-wide association study(GWAS)provides new insights and directions for understanding complex traits by identifying important single nucleotide polymorphisms.Many GWAS summary statistics data related to various complex traits have been gathered recently.Studies have shown that GWAS risk loci and expression quantitative trait loci(e QTLs)often have a lot of overlaps,which makes gene expression gradually become an important intermediary to reveal the regulatory role of GWAS.In this review,we review three types of gene-trait association detection methods of integrating GWAS summary statistics and e QTLs data,namely colocalization methods,transcriptome-wide association study-oriented approaches,and Mendelian randomization-related methods.At the theoretical level,we discussed the differences,relationships,advantages,and disadvantages of various algorithms in the three kinds of gene-trait association detection methods.To further discuss the performance of various methods,we summarize the significant gene sets that influence highdensity lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein,total cholesterol,and triglyceride reported in 16 studies.We discuss the performance of various algorithms using the datasets of the four lipid traits.The advantages and limitations of various algorithms are analyzed based on experimental results,and we suggest directions for follow-up studies on detecting gene-trait associations.

Metal-air battery is an environmental friendly energy storage system with unique open structure.Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys have been extensively attempted as anodes for air batteries due to high theoretical energy density,low cost,and recyclability.However,the study on Mg-air battery(MAB)is still at the laboratory level currently,mainly owing to the low anodic efficiency caused by the poor corrosion resistance.In order to reduce corrosion losses and achieve optimal utilization efficiency of Mg anode,the design strategies are reviewed from microstructure perspectives.Firstly,the corrosion behaviors have been discussed,especially the negative difference effect derived by hydrogen evolution.Special attention is given to the effect of anode micro-structures on the MAB,which includes grain size,grain orientation,second phases,crystal structure,twins,and dislocations.For further improvement,the discharge performance,long period stacking ordered phase and its enhancing effect are considered.Meanwhile,given the current debates over Mg dendrites,the potential risk,the impact on discharge,and the elimination strategies are discussed.Microstructure control and single crystal would be promising ways for MAB anode.
