A genetic algorithm-determined deep feedforward neural network architecture(GA-DFNN)is proposed for both day-ahead hourly and week-ahead daily electricity consumption of a real-world campus building in the United Kingdom.Due to the comprehensive relationship between affecting factors and real-world building electricity consumption,the adoption of multiple hidden layers in the deep neural network(DFNN)algorithm would improve its prediction accuracy.The architecture of a DFNN model mainly refers to its quantity of hidden layers,quantity of neurons in the hidden layers,activation function in each layer and learning process to obtain the connecting weights.The optimal architecture of DFNN model was generally determined through a trial-and-error process,which is an exponential combinatorial problem and a tedious task.To address this problem,genetic algorithm(GA)is adopted to automatically design an optimal architecture with improved generalization ability.one year and six months of measurement data from a campus building is used for training and testing the proposed GA-DFNN model,respectively.To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed GA-DFNN prediction model,its prediction performance,including mean absolute percentage error,coefficient of determination,root mean square error and mean absolute error,was compared to the reference feedforward neural network models with single hidden layer,DFNN models with other architecture,random search determined DFNN model,long-short-term-memory model and temporal convolutional network model.The comparison results show that the proposed GA-DFNN predictive model has superior performance than all the reference prediction models,demonstrating the optimization effectiveness of GA and the prediction effectiveness of DFNN model with multiple hidden layers and optimal architecture.

Two-stage capacity optimization approach of multi-energy system considering its optimal operation

With the depletion of fossil fuel and climate change,multi-energy systems have attracted widespread attention in buildings.Multi-energy systems,fuelled by renewable energy,including solar and biomass energy,are gain-ing increasing adoption in commercial buildings.Most of previous capacity design approaches are formulated based upon conventional operating schedules,which result in inappropriate design capacities and ineffective operating schedules of the multi-energy system.Therefore,a two-stage capacity optimization approach is pro-posed for the multi-energy system with its optimal operating schedule taken into consideration.To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed capacity optimization approach,it is tested on a renewable energy fuelled multi-energy system in a commercial building.The primary energy devices of the multi-energy system consist of biomass gasification-based power generation unit,heat recovery unit,heat exchanger,absorption chiller,elec-tric chiller,biomass boiler,building integrated photovoltaic and photovoltaic thermal hybrid solar collector.The variable efficiency owing to weather condition and part-load operation is also considered.Genetic algorithm is adopted to determine the optimal design capacity and operating capacity of energy devices for the first-stage and second-stage optimization,respectively.The two optimization stages are interrelated;thus,the optimal design and operation of the multi-energy system can be obtained simultaneously and effectively.With the adoption of the proposed novel capacity optimization approach,there is a 14%reduction of year-round biomass consumption compared to one with the conventional capacity design approach.

CoVID-19 Vaccination Uptake and Associated Factors in Selected Communities in Two Southwestern States in Nigeria

Introduction: CoVID-19 vaccine uptake and acceptance have been a major global concern due to the prevalent misinformation and disinformation that has characterized the vaccine rollout worldwide. This study aimed to assess CoVID-19 vaccine uptake and acceptance, and associated factors among selected community members in two states in southwestern Nigeria. Method: We conducted a cross-sectional study using a multistage sampling technique. Fifty catchment settlements of 10 health facilities in each of oyo and ogun States targeted for a CoVID-19 infection prevention and control intervention were randomly selected. Four households were targeted per settlement. All households that refused access were replaced, to ensure a minimum of four households randomly selected per settlement. The primary household decision-maker was interviewed in each household. Information elicited included respondents’ sociodemographic characteristics, health history, knowledge, risk and benefit perception about the CoVID-19 vaccine, vaccine uptake, and willingness to be vaccinated. The study was conducted from July–August 2021. Data were analyzed using SPSS IBM version 23. Result: Four hundred household decision-makers were surveyed in oyo and ogun states, after replacement. The mean age of the respondents was 43.0 ± 11.0 years. The majority, 346 (86.5%) had heard about CoVID-19 vaccination, but only 47 (13.6%) had received a CoVID-19 vaccination. of the 299 respondents who reported not receiving a CoVID-19 vaccination, 166 (55.5%) were willing to be vaccinated. In univariate analysis, respondents who were female had tertiary education, perceived that CoVID-19 vaccines are free and accessible, perceived that CoVID-19 vaccines have minimal side effects, and perceived higher benefits of CoVID-19 vaccination had higher odds of being vaccinated. In contrast, younger respondents, respondents with higher knowledge scores on CoVID-19 preventive measures, and with chronic illness had lower likelihoods of being vaccinated. Prevalence and Factors Associated with Hypertension among People Living with HIV Receiving Care in Three Large HIV Clinics in Nasarawa State, Nigeria

In the last decade, the long-term survival among people living with HIV (PLHIV) has significantly improved. This is accompanied by an increased burden of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension due to the combined effect of the aging population and the metabolic effect of the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) virion and antiretroviral therapy. This study aims to assess the prevalence and factors associated with hypertension among people living with HIV in three large health facilities in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. A descriptive cross-sectional study employed a multistage sampling technique to select 309 adults with HIV, 18 years and above, receiving HIV care in three large health facilities in Nasarawa State. The outcome variable was the participants’ self-reported history of hypertension, confirmed through a positive history of hypertension treatment. Exposure variables included the participant’s socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, and HIV care and treatment history. Data were presented using frequency tables. Factors associated with hypertension were assessed using binary logistic regression at a 0.05 level of statistical significance. A total of 309 adults living with HIV were sampled. A larger percentage of the participants were married 228 (73.8%), female, 191 (61.8%), within the age group 41 - 50 years, 141 (45.6%). Most of the participants had no family history of hypertension, 188 (60.8%). The prevalence of self-reported hypertension was 11.0% (34/309). Factors associated with hypertension at the bivariate level were age group 21 - 30 years, 41 - 50 years, being widow/widower, divorced, retired from employment or with family history of hypertension. only participants age group 31 - 40 years [Adjusted odd Ratio (AoR): 0.18, 95%CI: 0.04 - 0.91, p = 0.04] and family history of hypertension [(AoR): 83.44, 95%CI: 15.75 - 442.11, p ound to predict hypertension among the study participants after adjusting for confounders. Stability analysis of a time-delayed Van der Pol–Helmholtz–Duffing oscillator in fractal space with a non-perturbative approach

The time-delayed fractal Van der Pol–Helmholtz–Duffing(VPHD)oscillator is the subject of this paper,which explores its mechanisms and highlights its stability analysis.While time-delayed technologies are currently garnering significant attention,the focus of this research remains crucially relevant.A non-perturbative approach is employed to refine and set the stage for the system under scrutiny.The innovative methodologies introduced yield an equivalent linear differential equation,mirroring the inherent nonlinearities of the system.Notably,the incorporation of quadratic nonlinearity into the frequency formula represents a cutting-edge advancement.The analytical solution's validity is corroborated using a numerical approach.Stability conditions are ascertained through the residual Galerkin method.Intriguingly,it is observed that the delay parameter,in the context of the fractal system,reverses its stabilizing influence,impacting both the amplitude of delayed velocity and the position.The analytical solution's precision is underscored by its close alignment with numerical results.Furthermore,the study reveals that fractal characteristics emulate damping behaviors.Given its applicability across diverse nonlinear dynamical systems,this non-perturbative approach emerges as a promising avenue for future research.

Phytoremediation Strategies for Heavy Metal Contamination: A Review on Sustainable Approach for Environmental Restoration

Current globalization trends and important breakthroughs globally need a complete study of heavy metal contamination, its causes, its impacts on human and environmental health, and different remediation strategies. Heavy metal pollution is mostly produced by urbanization and industry, which threatens ecosystems and human health. Herein, we discuss a sustainable environmental restoration strategy employing phytoremediation for heavy metal pollution, the carcinogenic, mutagenic, and cytotoxic effects of heavy metals such as cadmium, copper, mercury, selenium, zinc, arsenic, chromium, lead, nickel, and silver, which may be fatal. Phytoremediation, which was prioritized, uses plants to remove, accumulate, and depollute pollutants. This eco-friendly method may safely collect, accumulate, and detoxify toxins using plants, making it popular. This study covers phytostabilization, phytodegradation, rhizodegradation, phytoextraction, phytovolatilization, and rhizofiltration. A phytoremediation process’s efficiency in varied environmental circumstances depends on these components’ complex interplay. This paper also introduces developing phytoremediation approaches including microbe-assisted, chemical-assisted, and organic or bio-char use. These advancements attempt to overcome conventional phytoremediation’s limitations, such as limited suitable plant species, location problems, and sluggish remediation. Current research includes machine learning techniques and computer modeling, biostimulation, genetic engineering, bioaugmentation, and hybrid remediation. These front-line solutions show that phytoremediation research is developing towards transdisciplinary efficiency enhancement. We acknowledge phytoremediation’s promise but also its drawbacks, such as site-specific variables, biomass buildup, and sluggish remediation, as well as ongoing research to address them. In conclusion, heavy metal pollution threatens the ecology and public health and must be reduced. Phytoremediation treats heavy metal pollution in different ways.

The human brain has exceedingly high metabolic demands.The cerebral vasculature has the critical task of providing sufficient blood supply to meet this demand.The sudden interruption of blood flow to the brain,as observed during ischemic stroke,results in acute neurological injury with devastating consequences-a high rate of adult disability and death.Ischemic stroke is thus a vascular disorder with a dramatic neurological impact.There is an urgent need for more effective disease management to combat stroke as current treatment paradigms,focusing on vascular recanalization and neuroprotection,have only limited clinical success.Since accumulating data suggests successful long-term neuroprotection is unlikely to be achievable without a functional microvascular network,strategies that reduce endothelial dysfunction could be indispensable.Encouragingly,very recent evidence highlighted herein suggests protecting the humble pericyte may be a new approach to reaching this goal.

Glyphosate as a direct or indirect activator of pro-inflammatory signaling and cognitive impairment

Glyphosate-based herbicides are widely used around the world, making it likely that most humans have significant exposure. Because of habitual exposure, there are concerns about toxicity including neurotoxicity that could result in neurological, psychiatric, or cognitive impairment. We recently found that a single injection of glyphosate inhibits long-term potentiation, a cellular model of learning and memory, in rat hippocampal slices dissected 1 day after injection, indicating that glyphosate-based herbicides can alter cognitive function. Glyphosate-based herbicides could adversely affect cognitive function either indirectly and/or directly. Indirectly, glyphosate could affect gut microbiota, and if dysbiosis results in endotoxemia(leaky gut), infiltrated bacterial by-products such as lipopolysaccharides could activate pro-inflammatory cascades. Glyphosate can also directly trigger pro-inflammatory cascades. Indeed, we observed that acute glyphosate exposure inhibits long-term potentiation in rat hippocampal slices. Interestingly, direct inhibition of long-term potentiation by glyphosate appears to be similar to that of lipopolysaccharides. There are several possible measures to control dysbiosis and neuroinflammation caused by glyphosate. Dietary intake of polyphenols, such as quercetin, which overcome the inhibitory effect of glyphosate on long-term potentiation, could be one effective strategy. The aim of this narrative review is to discuss possible mechanisms underlying neurotoxicity following glyphosate exposure as a means to identify potential treatments.
