CONsPECTUs:since its discovery in 1965,the inorganic drug cisplatin has become a mainstay of cancer therapies and has inspired many platinum(Pt)-based compounds to solve various issues of toxicity and limitations associated with the original ***,many of these drugs/prodrugs continue to be plagued by an array of side effects,limited circulation,and half-life and off-target *** solve this issue,we have constructed an array of platinum-based prodrugs on a Pt(IV)skeleton,which provides more favorable geometry and hydrophobicity,easier functionalization,and ultimately better targeting *** of these Pt(IV)prodrugs aims to either combine cisplatin with other agents for a combination therapeutic effect or improve the targeting of cisplatin itself,all for the more effective treatment of specific *** developed prodrugs include Platin-A,which combines cisplatin with the anti-inflammatory agent aspirin,Platin-M,which is functionalized with a mitochondria-targeting moiety,and Platin-B and Platin-Cbl,which combine cisplatin with components to combat cellular resistance to *** the same time,however,we recognize the crucial role of nanotechnology in improving the efficacy of cisplatin prodrugs and other inorganic compounds for the treatment of *** describe several key benefits provided by nanomedicine that vastly improve the reach and utility of cisplatin prodrugs,including the ability of biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles(NPs)to deliver these agents with precision to the mitochondria,transport drugs across the blood−brain barrier,and target cisplatin prodrugs to specific cancers using various *** addition,we highlight our progress in the engineering of innovative new polymers to improve the release patterns,pharmacokinetics,and dosages of cancer *** this Account,we aim to describe the growing need for collaboration between the fields of inorganic chemistry and nanotechnology and how new advancements can n

A Case Report: Emergency Management of a Pregnant Trauma Patient—An Anesthesiologist’s Perspective and Role

Trauma is the leading cause of death for all women of childbearing age. Motor vehicle accidents account for almost two-thirds of all maternal non-obstetric, trauma-related deaths, while falls and domestic violence comprise a large percentage of the rest. The leading causes of obstetric trauma are motor vehicle accidents, falls, assaults, and gunshots, and ensuing injuries are classified as blunt abdominal trauma, pelvic fractures, or penetrating trauma . The causes are different with different life styles and different socio-economic and cultural background. Pregnant trauma victims tend to be younger, less severely injured, and more likely African American or of Hispanic descent compared with nonpregnant victims of trauma. Drugs and alcohol are a factor in about 20 percent of maternal trauma. With pregnancy comes the challenge and responsibility of caring for two patients at once, the mother and the fetus. In general, providing optimal maternal care is the best strategy to optimize fetal survival. Decision-making including the condition of the mother, gestational age, status of the fetus, and interventions are based on these key factors. Many providers are involved in the care of the pregnant patient: at the trauma scene, in the emergency department, and in the operating room. The anesthesiologist plays a key role in the care and management of the pregnant trauma patient. All anesthesiologists have ample training in obstetric anesthesia during their residency and frequently cover obstetric units in hospitals where pregnant patients are cared for. On the other hand, most nonobstetric physicians have little obstetric exposure and may be uncomfortable caring for the pregnant patient because of unfamiliarity with the physiologic changes of pregnancy or the evaluation of fetal well-being. First-principles calculation of intrinsic defect chemistry and self-doping in PbTe

semiconductor dopability is inherently limited by intrinsic defect *** many thermoelectric materials,narrow band gaps due to strong spin-orbit interactions make accurate atomic level predictions of intrinsic defect chemistry and self-doping computationally *** we use different levels of theory to model point defects in PbTe,and compare and contrast the results against each other and a large body of experimental *** find that to accurately reproduce the intrinsic defect chemistry and known self-doping behavior of PbTe,it is essential to(a)go beyond the semi-local GGA approximation to density functional theory,(b)include spin-orbit coupling,and(c)utilize many-body GW theory to describe the positions of individual band *** hybrid HsE functional with spin-orbit coupling included,in combination with the band edge shifts from G0W0 is the only approach that accurately captures both the intrinsic conductivity type of PbTe as function of synthesis conditions as well as the measured charge carrier concentrations,without the need for experimental *** results reaffirm the critical role of the position of individual band edges in defect calculations,and demonstrate that dopability can be accurately predicted in such challenging narrow band gap materials.

Prediction of Alzheimer’s Using Random Forest with Radiomic Features

Alzheimer’s disease is a non-reversible,non-curable,and progressive neurological disorder that induces the shrinkage and death of a specific neuronal population associated with memory formation and *** is a frequently occurring mental illness that occurs in about 60%–80%of cases of *** is usually observed between people in the age group of 60 years and *** upon the severity of symptoms the patients can be categorized in Cognitive Normal(CN),Mild Cognitive Impairment(MCI)and Alzheimer’s Disease(AD).Alzheimer’s disease is the last phase of the disease where the brain is severely damaged,and the patients are not able to live on their *** is an approach to extracting a huge number of features from medical images with the help of data characterization ***,105 number of radiomic features are extracted and used to predict the alzhimer’*** paper uses support Vector Machine,K-Nearest Neighbour,Gaussian Naïve Bayes,eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)and Random Forest to predict Alzheimer’s *** proposed random forest-based approach with the Radiomic features achieved an accuracy of 85%.This proposed approach also achieved 88%accuracy,88%recall,88%precision and 87%F1-score for AD ***,it achieved 72%accuracy,73%recall,72%precisionand 71%F1-score for AD *** and it achieved 69%accuracy,69%recall,68%precision and 69%F1-score for MCI *** comparative analysis shows that the proposed approach performs better than others approaches.

In this article, a nonlinear mathematical model for innovation diffusion with stage structure which incorporates the evaluation stage （time delay） is proposed. The model is analyzed by considering the effects of external as well as internal influences and other demographic processes such as emigration, intrinsic growth rate, death rate, etc. The asymptotical stability of the various equilibria is investigated. By analyzing the exponential characteristic equation with delay-dependent coefficients obtained through the variational matrix, it is found that Hopf bifurcation occurs when the evaluation period （time delay, T） passes through a critical value. Applying the normal form theory and the center manifold argument, we de- rive the explicit formulas determining the properties of the bifurcating periodic solutions. To illustrate our theoretical analysis, some numerical simulations are also included.

sensitization of Hydrothermally Grown single Crystalline TiO2 Nanowire Array with Cdses Nanocrystals for Photovoltaic Applications

An oriented array of electron transporting nanowires, grown directly on a transparent conductor constitutes an optimal architecture for efficient photovoltaic applications. In addition, semiconductor nanocrystals can work as efficient light absorbers because of their tunable optical properties. In this paper, we use an oriented array of TiO2 nanowires grown directly on a transparent conductive electrode and subsequently sensitized with colloidally grown Cdses nanocrystal quantum dots （QDs）, using an efficient bi-linker assisted methodology, to demonstrate photovoltaic cells. Upon excitation with light, exciton dissociation takes place at the nanowire-nanocrystal interface, after which, electrons are transported to the fluorine-doped tin oxide （FTO） electrode via single-crystalline TiO2 nanowire channels. We demonstrate that an ex situ ligand exchange of QDs followed by sensitization on oxygen-plasma treated TiO2 nanowires results in enhanced loading of QDs, as compared to the in situ ligand exchange approach. An array of 1μm long TiO2 nanowire sensitized with Cdses nanocrystals exhibits photovoltaic effects with a short-circuit current of 2-3 mA/cm2, an open circuit voltage of 0.6-0.7 V and a fill factor of 52-5%, resulting in devices with efficiencies of up to 0.6%.
