Foliar persistence and residual activity of methoxyfenozide against beet armyworm （Lepidoptera： Noctuidae）

A greenhouse study was conducted to investigate the persistence of methoxyfenozide in pepper （Capsicum annuum L.） foliage. An aqueous suspension of methoxyfenozide was sprayed on pepper plants at concentrations of 72 and 144 mg of active ingredient （a.i.）/L. Foliage was collected at different intervals of time （0, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 days） after the treatment, and the methoxyfenozide residue was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. The foliage was also used in bioas- says to determine the residual toxicity on and the consumption rate of the third-instar larvae of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua （Htibner）（Lepidoptera： Noctuidae）. The methoxyfenozide concentrations observed after 50 days had decreased to 19 and 69μg/g per sample, corresponding to a loss of 61% and 28% from the application concentrations of 72 and 144 mg a.i./L, respectively. When fitting a first-order kinetics degradation model, the half-life （DT50） of this compound was 76 days. Both application concentrations of methoxyfenozide caused a high mortality rate （〉97%） when the larvae were fed the pepper foliage collected at all of the time intervals. Lastly, at all of the time points, the consumption rate by the larvae was reduced to between 57% and 92% for both concentrations that were bioassayed. Our results indicate that, under the present greenhouse conditions, the degradation of methoxyfenozide was slower than that reported by other authors and that its residues were highly toxic to S. exigua larvae. The implications of these results for the management programs of this pest are discussed.

This work presents the authors＇ experience in the field of mobile technologies, from which several initiatives have emerged. As result of this, a games-based framework for learning has been developed in these last years. This framework is composed by a competition called Mobigame, which has as main aim to stimulate the participation of the students. By participating in this competition participants learn to develop for mobile devices. A game to practice Japanese is also presented in this article, which was presented in the above mentioned competition. This game has been developed for mobile phones or PDAs （Personal Digital Assistants） based on the JME （Java Mobile Edition） technology. Finally, another initiative is also presented： A free download platform of digital contents for mobile devices based on info-educational games.

Background:The presence of a single umbilical artery(SUA)is a fetal soft marker of congenital *** the most common related malformations,there are cardiological,nephrourological and digestive anomalies,most of which are considered to have a vascular *** is an association between increased incidence of intrauterine growth retardation and adverse perinatal indicators,but whether this association is due to related anomalies or isolated SUA(SUA)is ***:We reviewed 96 cases of iSUA and non-isolated SUA(niSUA),diagnosed in a period of two years in a referral hospital for high-risk *** on prenatal explorations,including fetal ultrasonography and karyotyping,were *** was diagnosed when no malformations were found prenatally or in postnatal ***:Sixty-six newborns(68.8%)had no other anomalies and 30(31.3%)presented with a variety of malformations including heart diseases,urophaties,digestive,nervous and musculoskeletal disorders,genetic abnormalities and complex *** and nephrourological abnormalities were found to be the most frequent association with a SUA(both in 23.8%of malformed SUA newborns).Intrauterine growth restriction was not higher in iSUA newborns than in a normal *** allowed optimal prenatal diagnosis in most ***:The prognosis of the fetus with a SUA is determined by the presence of other malformations observed by an expert *** no other findings are made,only a routine physical examination should be performed in newborns,but no other complementary examinations are required.

The focus of this paper is the design and use of a simple device to determine sediment yield from gullies. The simplicity and low cost makes this device especially useful when resources are limited. In this study, it was used to measure sediment yield at a site called An?o Gully, in a study area in Cáceres municipality (15o 57’ S and 57o 31’ W, Mato Grosso State, Brazil). This gully is located 28 kilometres from the center of the town, Cáceres, and was easy to reach during and immediately after storm events to make measurements with this device.

AIM To identify short-term and oncologic outcomes of pelvic exenterations(PE) for locally advanced primary rectal cancer(LAPRC) in patients included in a national prospective *** Few studies report on PE in patients with LAPRC. For this study, we included PE for LAPRC performed between 2006 and 2017, as available, from the Rectal Cancer Registry of the Spanish Association of Surgeons [Asociación Espa?ola de Cirujanos(AEC)]. Primary endpoints included procedure-associated complications, 5-year local recurrence(LR), disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS). A propensitymatched comparison with patients who underwent non-exenterative surgery for low rectal cancers was performed as a secondary *** Eight-two patients were included. The mean age was 61.8 ± 11.5 years. More than half of the patients experienced at least one complication. Surgical site infections were the most common complication(abdominal wound 18.3%, perineal closure 19.4%). Thirty-three multivisceral resections were performed, including two hepatectomies and four metastasectomies. The long-term outcomes of the 64 patients operated on before 2013 were assessed. The five-year LR was 15.6%, the distant recurrence rate was 21.9%, and OS was 67.2%, with a mean survival of 43.8 mo. R+ve resection increased LR [hazard ratio(HR) = 5.58, 95%CI: 1.04-30.07, P = 0.04]. The quality of the mesorectum was associated with DFS. Perioperative complications were independent predictors of shorter survival(HR = 3.53, 95%CI: 1.12-10.94, P = 0.03). In the propensity-matched analysis, PE was associated with better quality of the specimen and tended to achieve lower LR with similar *** PE is an extensive procedure, justified if disease-free margins can be obtained. Further studies should define indications, accreditation policy, and quality of life in LAPRC.

Effect of homogenization process on the hardness of Zn-Al-Cu alloys

The effect of a homogenizing treatment on the hardness of as-cast Zn–Al–Cu alloys was investigated. Eight alloy compositions were prepared and homogenized at 350 °C for 180 h, and their rockwell 'B' hardness was subsequently measured. All the specimens were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and metallographically prepared for observation by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results of the present work indicated that the hardness of both alloys(as-cast and homogenized) increased with increasing Al and Cu contents; this increased hardness is likely related to the presence of the θ and τ′ phases. A regression equation was obtained to determine the hardness of the homogenized alloys as a function of their chemical composition and processing parameters, such as homogenization time and temperature, used in their preparation.

A Proposal for a Benchmark Generator of Weakly Connected Directed Graphs

The previous studies on detection of communities on complex networks were focused on nondirected graphs, such as Neural Networks, social networks, social interrelations, the contagion of diseases, and bibliographies. However, there are also other problems whose modeling entails obtaining a weakly connected directed graph such as the student access to the university, the public transport networks, or trophic chains. Those cases deserve particularized study with an analysis and the resolution adjusted to them. Additionally, this is a challenge, since the existing algorithms in most of the cases were originally designed for non-directed graphs or symmetrical and regular graphs. Our proposal is a Benchmark Generator of Weakly Connected Directed Graphs whose properties can be defined by the end-users according to their necessities. The source code of the generators described in this article is available in GitHub under the GNU license.

BACKGroUND The uncertainties about coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),the change in routine,lifestyles and the reduction of physical contact can cause stress,anxiety,emotional overload,poor sleep and even physical health *** To evaluate the scientific publications available on the relationship between COVID-19 and anxiety experienced in the general population,during the period of social isolation,adopted by governmental organizations and public health policymakers as a measure to contain the spread of *** A literature search was performed systematically exploring the PubMed and Medline databases using the following terms classified as MeSH descriptors:(“anxiety”AND“pandemic”AND“COVID-19”).For the search,in the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde–BVS,***,Web of Science and National Library plat forms, the following keywords were used: ("anxiety" AND "coronavirus" AND"social isolation"). Thirty-seven peer-reviewed articles were found. PRISMA andthe Downs & Black checklist were used for qualitative *** applying the inclusion criteria, seven (n = 7) original scientific articles wereselected. The collated evidence demonstrated increased levels of symptoms ofanxiety and depression during the period of social isolation. The populationbetween 21 to 40 years was most affected. The risk of severe depression was twiceas high at the epicenter of the pandemic.
