Microbial Attributes of Infested Soil Suppressive to bacterial Wilt by bokashi Amendments

bacterial wilt, caused by Ralstonia solanacearum, is a major tomato disease in tropical and sub-tropical regions. It is difficult to be managed, since no single measure confers significant contribution for disease control. Among the cultural practices available for disease management, bokashi provides nutrients to the plants, increasing the microbial biomass, improving the quality of the soil and, in some cases, protecting plants against diseases. In this work, we evaluated the effect of three different bokashis (Embrapa—bE;poultry—bP and cattle—bC) in two soils artificially and naturally infested with R. solanacearum, on the suppression of bacterial wilt in tomato. Disease control is discussed upon measurements on the contents of microbial biomass carbon (MbC), on total organic carbon (TOC), on basal respiration (bR), on metabolic coefficient (qCO2) and on microbial coefficient (qMIC). The experiment was implemented in greenhouse, with completely randomized design and factorial arrangement of treatments 2 × 3 (two soils × three bokashis). Disease suppression, assessed through wilt incidence 20 and 30 days after transplanting, was better observed in the naturally infested soil, where bP and bE were more efficient in controling the disease. TOC contents were higher in the artificially infested soil compared to that naturally infested, whereas the qMIC presented higher value for the naturally infested soil, which had greater contribution of MbC. Higher rates of bR and qCO2 were observed for the naturally infested soil with bC, probably indicating high plant stress caused by the disease in this treatment. Moreover, a high and positive correlation coefficient was found between the variables qCO2 and the number of infected plants at 30 days after transplanting. In the artificially infested soil, a negative correlation was found between the number of infected plants at 20 days after transplanting and TOC.

S53G SNP in Cathepsin b: Can be Used as a Molecular biomarker to breast Cancer?

Cathepsin b (CTS b) is a proteolytic enzyme that participates in several important biological processes. However, when it is altered can be involved in development of breast cancer, a disease with high incidence and mortality rate among women. Many studies have shown a correlation between high CTS b expression and breast tumor. Furthermore, it has been shown that the SNP rs1803250 (S53G) leads to structural and functional changes in protein that can make it pathogenic. The present study aimed to evaluate a possible association of SNP rs1803250 (S53G) with breast cancer. For this, real-time PCR was performed on a sample collected in the State of Pará, with 127 patients and 122 controls. The SNP frequency in this region was 0.12, according to a research project in progress that aims to identify Amerindians molecular alterations. This indicates that the SNP is found in region with a distribution close to worldwide frequency of 0.09. Our results showed that the SNP was in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium in collected sample, but C variant allelic frequency was 0.08 in both patients and control groups, which is extremely similar to global average. Moreover, homozygotes CC was not found in the sample and SNP genotypes frequency in patients and control groups was not significantly different. In addition, statistical analysis showed that the SNP did not have to correlate with tumor subtypes nor with tumor staging. Therefore, according to the analyzed sample, the SNP rs1803250 has no association with breast cancer and it cannot be considered a molecular biomarker for breast cancer.

byrsonima intermedia A Juss. is a species with pharmacological properties from the brazilian Cerrado that shows difficulties related to sexual propagation. Research on cell viability may provide useful information for the selection of cells with embryogenic potential during the callus culture, Within this context, our research is aimed at establishing the cell viability of calli from byrsonima intermedia leaf segments. The calli went through three subculture phases, of 60 days each, in MS medium with 0.09 M sucrose, 0.6% agar, pH 5.8 and 4.52 laM 2,4-D. The calli were stored in dark conditions and samples were collected every 10 days from each subculture for viability tests with fluorescein 3,6-diacetate （FDA） and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride （TTC）. The staining methods allowed quantifying cell viability in each subculture. The best results from the FDA tests were obtained at 21, 25 and 29 days for the first, second and third subcultures respectively, with 53,86%, 61.88% and 53.73% viable cells. Regarding the TTC test, the largest absorbance values were obtained at 21, 27 and 28 days for the first, second and third subcultures respectively. Fluorescence and spectrophotometry analyses were efficient for determination of cell viability during callus cultivation period.

Ferric carboxymaltose for anemia in Crohn’s disease patients at a tertiary center:A retrospective observational cohort study

Rhino-Orbito-Cerebral Mucormycosis in a Diabetic Patient with Idiopathic CD4+Lymphocytopenia

A 54-year-old diabetic male, with idiopathic CD4 + lymphocytopenia, was presented with a two-month history of headache and periocular pain followed by vertigo, left hypoacusia and left peripheral facial palsy and hypoesthesia. More than a month after admission, a palate ulcer appeared and Infectious Diseases consultation was required. Mucormycosis was suspected and the diagnosis was confirmed by histologic examination. Despite early surgery and combination antifungal therapy, the patient did not survive. This case report illustrates the difficulty in diagnosing a rare condition with non-specific clinical manifestations and underlines the importance of a timely multidisciplinary approach in order to recognise this highly fatal disease earlier. It also describes a previously non-reported situation of mucormycosis in a patient with idiopathic CD4 + lymphocytopenia.

This paper presents a methodology for analytical calculation and computational simulation using the finite element method for piezoresistive graphite sensor element on flexible polymer substrate,A4 *** computer simulation aims to find the region of greatest mechanical tension and deflection of the circular diaphragm set in the circumference *** steps for simulation are geometry definition,mesh generation,inclusion of material physical properties and simulation *** mathematical modeling of maximum mechanical stress and deflection is described analytically and *** analytical calculations were compared with the computer simulation and presented a relative percentage error of 3.38%for the maximum *** results show that the piezoresistor should be positioned at the edges of the circular diaphragm to take advantage of maximum mechanical stress by defining the best location for graphite film deposition for sensor device designs and fabrications.

Extramedullary plasmocytoma associated with a massive deposit of amyloid in the duodenum

We report a rare case of extramedullary plasmocytoma associated with a massive deposit of amyloid in the duodenum. A 72-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital presenting with a 3-mo history of epigastric pain, vomiting and weight loss. On computed tomography （CT） a wall thickening of the fourth part of the duodenum was observed. Multiple biopsies obtained from the lesion showed infiltration of plasma cells and lymphocytes, but they were not conclusive. The patient underwent resection of the lesion and, on histopathological examination, the lesion consisted of a dense and diffuse infiltrate of plasma cells and a few admixed lymphocytes with reactive follicles extending to the muscular propria. An extensive deposition of amyloid was also observed. Immunohistochemical stains revealed that a few plasmacytoid cells showed λ light chain staining, though most were κ： light chain positive. These cells also were positive for CD138 and CD56 but negative for CD20 and CD79. The findings were consistent with extramedullary plasmocytoma associated with a massive deposit of amyloid in duodenum. A subsequent workup for multiple myeloma was completely negative. The patient showed no signs of local recurrence or dissemination of the disease after 12 mo follow-up. because of the association of plasmocytoma and amyloidosis, the patient must be followed up because of the possible systemic involvement of the neoplasm and amyloidosis in future.

Gasification of Municipal Solid Waste for Power Generation in brazil, a Review of Available Technologies and Their Environmental benefits

This article reviews the literature on thermochemical processing of municipal solid waste as the final disposal in brazil, explores recent publications in the field of solid waste generated, its origin, characteristics and removal mechanisms currently employed, in the same way, available technologies for the thermochemical treatment of MSW with an emphasis on gasification and clean technology are evaluated, highlighting the current technical and reported in the literature in order to identify indicators of efficiency and flexibility of the technology. From the review it is concluded that gasification is a technically feasible option for the thermochemical conversion of municipal solid waste and subsequent power generation, besides being a technology that meets the applicable emission limits. Some of the main advantages of gasification of municipal solid waste are：（a） the sharp reduction in the waste mass （about 70-80%） and volume （approximately 80-90%）; （b） the drastic reduction in land use, 1：3000; （c） destruction of organic pollutants and other halogenated hydrocarbons; （d） concentration and immobilisation of inorganic contaminants so that they can be used effectively and safely removed; （e） use recyclables, such as ferrous metals, ferrous ash and slag materials; （f） reducing emissions of greenhouse gases by anaerobic decomposition of organic waste and （g） power generation.
