Low temperature,IBA concentrations and optimal time for adventitious rooting of Eucalyptus benthamii mini-cuttings

Eucalyptus benthamii is a forest species of economic interest that has difficulty with seed production and also is considered to have difficulty with adventitious rooting using propagation techniques, such as cutting or mini-cutting. We aimed to assess the adventitious rooting percentage under different storage times in low temperatures and at various IBA （indole-3-butyric acid） concentrations to determine the optimal time of permanence for rooting Eucalyptus benthamii minicuttings in a greenhouse. Shoots collected from mini-stumps cultivated in a semi-hydroponic system were used to obtain the mini-cuttings. For the first experiment, the mini-cuttings were stored at 4℃ for 0 （immediate planting）, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 h. The second experiment evaluated the rooting dynamic to determine the optimal time of permanence for minicuttings in a greenhouse. The basal region of the mini-cutting was treated with various IBA solutions： 0 （free of IBA）, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 and 4,000 mg.L^-1. Every seven days （0 （immediate planting）, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days）, destructive sampling of the mini-cuttings was performed to evaluate the histology of the adventitious rooting. Eucalyptus benthamii minicuttings should be rooted immediately after the collection of the shoots. The 2,000 mg.L^-1 IBA concentration induced a greater speed and percentage of adventitious rooting, and an interval of 35 to 42 days was indicated for permanence of the mini-cuttings in the greenhouse. Expo- sure to low temperature induced adventitious root formation with diffuse vascular connections.

Problem-Solving Training in Character Multidiscipline in PET-Health/natal-RN for Undergraduate Students

The undergraduate training points to teaching methodologies where students act on their learning processes. Underlying this perspective, the under graduation in health of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte offers the discipline of Saúde e Cidadania (SACI-Health and Citizenship), held in different health centers at natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The aim of this study is to analyze between 2009 and 2011, the strengths and weaknesses of this experience, according to former students. 25 learning portfolios written by students were analyzed with the aid of Alceste 4.9 software. The results show the value of teamwork to facing the problems and the existence of formative stimuli toward the comprehensive care. Emerging as weaknesses, the difficulties in living together in the labor process are that students miss the low supply of multidisciplinary courses throughout the training. It is concluded that the SACI-Health and Citizenship gives students a different look to the psychic, social, economic and cultural factors that underlie problems and health practices.

Painful Symptomatology Reported by Dentistry Students at a Brazilian University

Objectives: Identification of the level of knowledge on ergonomics principles, and application of these by dentistry students to investigate whether painful symptomatology was experienced. An-other objective is the expansion of discussions on occupational health in academic settings. Study Design and Settings: Dentistry students of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil (n = 148) were surveyed using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire to determine the severity of musculoskeletal symptoms experienced. Data were analyzed through EpiInfo 7.0 to measure central trends and variability 5for quantitative variables, absolute and relative frequencies for categorical variables, and significance between groups (confidence intervals and chisquare). Association analysis (Pearson) was also carried out. Results: Ergonomic measures were not reported by students. Within the musculoskeletal symptoms described, females were the most affected, independent of academic level. Conclusions: Positive correlations were verified between all categories and all anatomic regions (e.g., neck, lower back, wrists, hands, and shoulders). Data suggest progressive worsening of symptoms, which will eventually result in leaves of absence.

Use of Silicon in Mitigating Ammonium Toxicity in Maize Plants

Silicon is a beneficial element that can mitigate abiotic stresses, such as ammonium toxicity. The objective herein was to evaluate the effects of silicon (Si) on mitigating toxicity caused by excess ammonium in maize plants grown in nutrient solution. An experiment was conducted with maize plants (cultivar DKB 390 VT Pro II) grown in a greenhouse in pots (8 L) in a hydroponic system. The treatments were arranged in a 2 × 2 factorial, consisting of two ammonium concentrations (30 and 60 mmol·L-1) in the absence and presence of Si (10 mmol·L-1), arranged in a completely randomized design with six repetitions. At 28 days after applying the treatments the dry mass of shoots and roots was evaluated, along with accumulation of silicon and nitrogen in the shoots. The use of silicon resulted in increases in the studied variables, regardless of ammonium concentrations. Silicon reduced the effect of toxicity caused by ammonium excess in maize plants, resulting in greater growth and dry matter accumulation.

Conditional Cash Transfer Program Effects on Anthropometric Index from Children in Latin America: A Systematic Review

Introduction: To compare the Brazilian conditional cash transfer program, the “Bolsa Família” with the similar programs found in Latin America regarding its effects in the children’s growth and development. Methods: The systematic review contemplated the Scopus, Embase, Pubmed, Scielo and Lilacs data bases. The inclusion criteria were epidemiological quantitative, observational, descriptive and analytical studies that had as target public children contemplated by the income transfer program with health conditionalities in Latin America. Narrative reviews related to the research theme were excluded as well as systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis related to the research theme. Results: The titles and abridgements review from 1007 articles resulted in the selection of 17 complete studies. After the quality analysis of these, as well as the application of the inclusion criteria, 10 articles were included in this review. Among the types of epidemiologic studies selected to compose this systematic review, 3 are cohort analytical studies. Conclusion: Studies carried out in Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador and Nicaragua were selected and indicated the positive effects that the conditional income transfer brought to the anthropometric index from beneficiary children in the researched countries.

Use of Perovskite-Type Lanthanum Nickelate Synthesized by the Polymeric Precursor Method in the Steam Reforming Reaction of Methane

In the current work, LaNiO3 perovskite was synthesized using the polymeric precursor method. The materials were thermally treated at 300°C for 2 hours, subsequently supported on alumina or zirconia and finally calcined at 800°C for 4 hours. The resulting samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, BET surface area and thermo-programmed reduction. Steam reforming reactions were carried out at 750°C and 6 bar during 4 hours using a pilot reactor under a H2O:CH4 ratio of 2.5. The mass of catalysts was about 5.7 g. X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed the formation of the perovskite structure in all samples prepared. The results also showed that lanthanum nickelate was more efficient when supported on alumina than zirconia. Finally, it was observed that the methane conversion was approximately 94% and the selectivity to hydrogen was about 70%. In all cases low selectivity to CO and CO2 was verified.

Sensor Hall Effect on Analyses Mechanical Stress

Measuring the magnetic field is a common practice in industrial processes. We can cite the voltage measurements through PTs (potential transformers). This is a classic example of inductive field measuring, predicting to be measured quantity is of oscillatory nature, with the circuit instrumentation scaled and calibrated for a typical frequency of 50/60 Hz. For a long time, only the binary information: "this field" and "missing field" is needed. For example, only with this information can we identify the frequency of the rotating shaft. Currently, new technologies employ magnetic sensors for measuring positions (distances, angles, etc.) from the intensity of the magnetic field. Inductive sensors are inefficient on measurements of static fields, such as magnets, opening spaces for new linear Hall effect sensors, and static which deal with these situations without difficulty. The present study examines the behavior of the Hall sensor, making the measurement of the intensity of the static magnetic field of the rotating magnet and the same, verifying the effect of the speed at which the magnet passes the sensor in some way alter the measurement. The results are favorable manda and the versatility of these sensors in many different applications.

Thermal Shock of Al2O3-SiC Ceramic Material Obtained by Replication Method

Polymeric sponge replication technique is the most used process to obtain ceramic foams with a cellular structure for filtration applications. The most used route to produce a closed-cell structure for filter applications is the replication of polymer foam by application of ceramic slurry [1-3]. This method consists in the impregnation of polymeric foam with ceramic slurry followed by a heating treatment that will burn out the organic elements and sintering the material, resulting of a replication of the original foam. Morphology, size of the cell and the degree of interconnectedness, permeability and mechanical properties at room and high temperatures are important parameters that influence significantly the application of these materials. In this work X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and thermal shock have been investigated for a cellular ceramic material with 10, 15 and 20 ppi (pores per linear inch). The results obtained in this work indicated that the mechanical properties show a significant dependence on the cell size and thermal shock temperature.

Analysis of the Deformation of Composite Materials of Scrapes of Tire and Latex with Temperature Variation

The great major applications of thermal isolation are in the strip of drops and averages temperatures (up to 180 oC), which is used from aggressive materials to the nature, such as glass wool, rock wool, polystyrene, EPS among others. In spite of the effectiveness in the retention of the flow of heat, such materials possess considerable cost and they are discarded for long years to be decomposed. In that context, to adapt to the world politics about the preservation of the environment, a study began with intention of developing a material composite with thermal properties, originating from insulating industrial residues. In this research, the behavior of this composite was analyzed, when it submitted traction efforts. For this, a term-mechanic was used (DMA), where the composite was differentiated under variation temperatures. It was also certain that the gradient temperature of the composite was the source of heat, the conductivity and thermal diffusion. Consequently, the function of the answers of the system was possible to be observed with the deformation of the composite with the tension and temperature variation, as well as the temperature gradient for each proportion of the composite.
