The wild population of the African lion Panthera leo continues to decline, requiring alternate conservation programs to be considered. One such program is ex situ reintroduction. Prior to release, longterm monitoring and assessment of behavior is required to determine whether prides and coalitions behave naturally and are sufficiently adapted to a wild environment. Social network analysis （SNA） can be used to provide insight into how the pride as a whole and individuals within it, function. Our study was conducted upon 2 captive-origin prides who are part of an ex situ reintroduction program, and 1 wild pride of African lion. Social interactions were collected at all occurrence for each pride and categorized into greet, social grooming, play, and aggression. Betweenness centrality showed that offspring in each pride were central to the play network, whereas degree indicated that adults received （indegree） the greatest number of overall social interactions, and the adult males of each pride were least likely to initiate （outdegree） any interactions. Through the assessment of individual centrality and degree values, a social keystone adult female was identified for each pride. Social network results indicated that the 2 captive-origin prides had formed cohesive social units and possessed relationships and behaviors comparable with the wild pride for the studied behaviors. This study provided the first SNA comparison between captive-bred origin and a wild pride of lions, providing valuable information on individual and pride sociality, critical for determining the success of prides within an ex situ reintroduction program.

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has become a major health concern *** that context,the understanding of epidemiological and clinical features associated with the disease and its severity is crucial for the establishment of strategies aimed at disease control and *** To describe epidemiological features,signs,symptoms,and laboratory findings among severely ill COVID-19 patients from an inten-sive care unit in northeastern Brazil as well as to evaluate predictor factors for disease *** This is a prospective single-center study that evaluated 115 patients admitted to the intensive care unit in a northeastern Brazilian *** The patients had a median age of 65.60±15.78 *** was the most frequent symptom,affecting 73.9%of the patients,followed by cough(54.7%).Fever was reported in approximately one-third of patients and myalgia in 20.8%of the *** least two comorbidities were found in 41.7%of the patients,and hypertension was the most prevalent(57.3%).In addition,having two or more comorbidities was a predictor of mortality,and lower platelet count was positively associated with *** and vomiting were two symptoms that were predictors of death,and the presence of a cough was a protective *** This is the first report of a negative correlation between cough and death in severely ill severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2-infected *** associations between comorbidities,advanced age,and low platelet count and the outcomes of the infection were similar to the results of previous studies,highlighting the relevance of these features.

Aims Gallery forests within grasslands have natural edges with open envi-ronments and offer a unique opportunity to examine how species performances vary across environmental ***,we asked if demographic rates of tree functional groups varied along the edge,if we could explain differences in plant strategies and performance through functional traits and which traits increase growth and sur-vival in natural *** We examine mortality and recruitment within the first 10 m of nat-ural edges of eight gallery forests using demographic data from five annual *** defined a priori plant strategies using tree functional groups:light demanding,pioneer and shade *** Findings The shade-tolerant group had the lowest mortality rates and basal area(BA)loss,while pioneer and light-demanding species had similar behavior for these *** survival and growth of functional groups were affected differently by the distance from the *** pioneer group survived more near the edge,while light-demanding and shade-tolerant groups toward the forest *** groups had higher growth in the *** differences could be explained by functional traits since most species have an acquisition strategy:higher specific leaf area and growth,lower leaf dry matter con-tent,lighter stem density,deeper crowns and less slender *** traits enhanced ***,mortality selected both strategies,but in distinct edge’s *** study showed that the high diversity found in natural edges can be explained by a niche and functional perspective,where differences in functional traits lead to differential performance along the environmental gradient.

Data on global population distribution are a strategic resource currently in high demand in an age of new Development Agendas that call for universal inclusiveness of ***,quality,detail,and age of census data varies significantly by country and suffers from shortcomings that propagate to derived population grids and their *** this work,the improved capabilities of recent remote sensing-derived global settlement data to detect and mitigate major discrepancies with census data is *** layers mapping builtup presence were used to revise census units deemed as‘unpopulated’and to harmonize population distribution along *** procedures to detect and mitigate these anomalies,while minimizing changes to census geometry,preserving the regional distribution of population,and the overall counts were developed,tested,and *** two procedures employed for the detection of deficiencies in global census data obtained high rates of true positives,after verification and *** also show that the targeted anomalies were significantly mitigated and are encouraging for further uses of free and open geospatial data derived from remote sensing in complementing and improving conventional sources of fundamental population statistics.

The paper addresses the identity construction in social organizations whose primary role is to define their singularity against other organizations and have them take on this singular role in the minds of its related audiences. This construction is carried out in the course of the organizational existence and it is reflected in the image that it depicts. Those two elements are essential values to be handled by promotional communication through its several channels, means, and products. The aim of the study is to discuss the importance of corporate identity and image in the promotional communication of an organization. Bibliographical research and a case study were both used as methodologies. We have found the need to cultivate a positive image for the consolidation of the future of the organization including the contribution to the economic development of the country.

Gastric adenocarcinoma is a global health concern,and Helicobacter pylori(***)infection is the main risk factor for its *** note,the immune response against the pathogen seems to be a determining factor for gastric oncogenesis,and increasing evidence have emphasized several host and bacterium factors that probably influence in this *** development of an inflammatory process against *** involves a wide range of mechanisms such as the activation of pattern recognition receptors and intracellular pathways resulting in the production of proinflammatory cytokines by gastric epithelial *** process culminates in the establishment of distinct immune response profiles that result from the cytokine-induced differentiation of T naïve cells into specific T helper *** released from each type of T helper cell orchestrate the immune system and interfere in the development of gastric cancer in idiosyncratic ***,variants in genes such as single nucleotide polymorphisms have been associated with variable predispositions for the occurrence of gastric malignancy because they influence both the intensity of gene expression and the affinity of the resultant molecule with its *** addition,various repercussions related to some *** virulence factors seem to substantially influence the host immune response against the infection,and many of them have been associated with gastric tumorigenesis.

Constructal law explains the sense of evolution (morphing to get access to flows) of finite size systems, but paradoxes do exist as not all vegetables have a tree form. Also, nature does not improve all animals for displacement. This work aims at creating a model to explain those paradoxes about constructal law. It adopted the system engineering technique of segregation between functions (abstract goals) and solutions (physical entities). Further, this work introduced the assumptions of flow under external threats and imperfect channels (subject to leakages and suboptimal form). Results showed that there are always elements doing four functions in all types of channels: to reduce entropy, to protect channel, to retain integrity and to drive flow. Although the four functions are always present, natural systems typically privilege one function over others, depending on environmental demands. As a solution to improve flows, animal brains also fit in the model of four functions. Human mind seems to have groups of instincts associated with each of the four channel design functions, leading to four behavior phenotypes and four motivations (prominence, inclusiveness, negativity prevention and tradition). Aim:The purpose of this manuscript is to study the potential characteristics of acquired nutlin-3 resistant non-small cell lung cancer cells(NSCLC).Nutlin-3 is an inhibitor of the murine-double minute 2 protein,the main negative regulator of wild type p53,of which several derivatives are currently in clinical ***:A549 NSCLC cells were exposed to increasing concentrations of nutlin-3 for a period of 18 *** derivates were cultured,and the most resistance subclone was selected for whole transcriptome *** set enrichment analysis was performed on differentially expressed genes between A549 nutlin-3 resistant cancer cells and the parental A549 p53 wild type cancer *** findings were validated at the gene,protein and/or functional ***:All nutlin-3 resistant subclones acquired mutations in the TP53 gene,resulting in overexpression of the mutant p53 *** most resistant subclone was enriched for genes related to epithelial to mesenchymal transition(EMT),resulting in increased migratory and invasive ***,these cells were enriched in genes related to inflammation,tissue remodelling,and ***,expression of several immune checkpoints,including PD-L1 and PD-L2,was significantly upregulated,and cisplatin-induced cell death was ***:Transcriptome analysis of a highly nutlin-3 resistant A549 subclone shows the relevance of studying(1)resistance to standard of care chemotherapy;(2)secretion of immunomodulating chemo-and cytokines;(3)immune checkpoint expression;and(4)EMT and invasion in nutlin-3 resistant cancer cells in addition to acquired mutations in the TP53 gene.
