Controversy regarding the species problem has been going on for many decades and no consensus has ever been reached about what a“species”really is and how best to define the *** Queiroz(1998)introduced a distinction between two aspects of this problem:on the one hand,the definition proper,and on the other,the criteria allowing biologists to recognize species in *** distinction is a first step on the way toward a solution of the *** the present paper,we show that de Queiroz’s distinction is made possible by the radical theoretical change introduced by *** emphasize that the species problem did not appear in the 20th century,but long before,and that Darwin addresses it indirectly in the Origin of *** might seem paradoxical to refer to Darwin’s views about species,because they are usually considered as ***,we propose that an analysis of these views in the context of Darwin’s own theory of evolution might reveal how a definition of the concept of species is made possible by being anchored to the very theory of *** this aim,we present a plausible reconstruction of Darwin’s implicit conception of species and show how this conception fits with the debates on species that took place in the 18th and 19th *** then turn to today’s biology and show what changes Darwin’s implicit conception of species has brought about relative to the species concept and species delimitation.

The research of new porous materials for applications in interfacial processes is key to addressing global energy and sustainability *** example,porous materials can be used to store fuels such as hydrogen or methane or to separate chemical mixtures reducing the energy currently required by thermal separation *** catalytic properties can be exploited to convert adsorbed molecules into valuable or less hazardous chemicals,thereby reducing energy consumption or pollutants *** boron nitride(BN)has appeared as a promising material for applications in molecular separations,gas storage,and catalysis owing to its high surface area and thermal stability,as well as its tunable physical properties and ***,the production of porous BN is still limited to the laboratory scale,and its formation mechanism,as well as ways to control porosity and chemistry,are yet to be fully *** addition,studies have pointed toward the instability of porous BN materials when exposed to humidity,which could significantly impact performance in industrial *** on porous BN performance and recyclability when employed in adsorption,gas storage,and catalysis remain limited,despite encouraging preliminary ***,porous BN powder must be shaped into macrostructures(e.g.,pellets)to be used ***,common methods to shape porous materials into macrostructures often cause a reduction in the surface area and/or mechanical *** recent years,research groups,including ours,have started addressing the challenges discussed ***,we summarize our collective findings through a selection of key ***,we discuss the chemistry and structure of BN,clarifying confusion around terminology and discussing the hydrolytic instability of the material in relation to its structure and *** demonstrate a way to reduce the instability in water while still maintaining high specific surface *** propose

BACKGROUND Highly effective and well-tolerated direct-acting antiviral(DAA)therapies have revolutionised the management of hepatitis C virus(HCV);however,niche populations face treatment *** co-prescribed with several firstgeneration anti-epileptic drugs(AEDs)are contraindicated due to drug-drug interactions.A common example is carbamazepine whereby steady-state carbamazepine reduces the maximum concentration and area under the curve of velpatasvir,glecaprevir and pibrentasvir due to potent cytochrome P450(CYP)3A4 *** also induces P-glycoprotein which reduces glecaprevir and pibrentasvir’s area under curve to infinite *** and glecaprevir-pibrentasvir are contraindicated in patients who are co-prescribed carbamazepine due to the risk of reduced DAA therapeutic effect and consequently,virological treatment *** presents a challenge for patients in whom carbamazepine substitution is medically unfeasible,impractical or ***,the properties of current generation DAA therapies,including high-potency non-structural protein 5A inhibitory effect,may be sufficient to overcome reduced bioavailability arising from carbamazepine related CYP 3A4 and P-glycoprotein *** SUMMARY We present a case series of three patients with non-cirrhotic,treatment-naïve,genotype 1a,1b,and 3a HCV who were treated with a 12 wk course of glecaprevir-pibrentasvir,while co-prescribed carbamazepine for seizure ***-pibrentasvir combination therapy was chosen due to its potent in vitro activity and low barrier to pan-genotypic resistance associated *** therapy was dose-separated from carbamazepine to maximise time to peak concentration,and taken with meals to improve *** virological response at 12 wk was achieved in each patient with no adverse *** DAA therapies,including glecaprevir-pibrentasvir,warrant consideration as a therapeutic agent in people with HCV w

Aim:Previous studies suggest that circulating tumor cells(CTC)are present at very low frequencies in blood of pancreatic cancer(PC)***,no technique has proven efficient for their detection,in part due to the lack of accurate tumor ***,we evaluated the potential utility of two marker candidates-Mucin 16(MUC16)and Tetraspanin 1(TSPAN1)-identified through a detailed review of the ***:To evaluate the pattern of expression of both markers in pancreatic tumor cells *** blood,we used cell lines derived from pancreatic cancer patients and blood from healthy ***:Antibodies against both MUC16 and TSPAN1 showed expression in three pancreatic cancer(PC)cell lines while they were absent in blood *** evaluate the efficiency of isolating tumor cells from blood,PC cell lines were spiked at different frequencies in blood,sequentially stained with biotin-conjugated TSPAN1 and MUC16 antibodies and a streptavidin ferrofluids,followed by immunomagnetic *** recovery of spiked TSPAN1+tumor cells was high with limited contamination by *** contrast,no PC cells were isolated when the biotin MUC16 reagent was used because the biotin-conjugated clone did not recognize PC ***:The combination of MUC16,TSPAN1,and epithelial cell adhesion molecule(EpCAM)antibodies will likely increase the efficiency of capturing circulating tumor cell in blood of pancreatic ductal *** further develop a protocol for isolation of circulating tumor cell in blood of PC patients,high amounts of antibodies(5-10 mg)against EpCAM,MUC16,and TSPAN1 will be needed.

Background: Blood cardioplegia is a technique with many variations in its use. Intermittent cross clamping with Lidoflazine has proven to deliver good cardioprotection in our center. Question: Is tepid (32°C) antegrade intermittent blood cardioplegia an efficient, safe and easy-to-use alternative to intermittent cross-clamping with Lidoflazine in elective isolated CABG in low-risk patients? Purpose:The aim of this study was to review information about risk factors for lower extremity running injuries in both short-distance(mean running distance-20 km/week and-10 km/session)and long-distance runners(mean running distance>20 km/week and>10 km/session).Methods:Electronic databases were searched for articles published up to February *** cohort studies using multivariable analysis for the assessment of individual risk factors or risk models for the occurrence of lower extremity running injuries were *** reviewers independently selected studies for eligibility and assessed risk of bias with the Quality in Prognostic Studies *** GRADE approach was used to assess the quality of the ***:A total of 29 studies were included:17 studies focused on short-distance runners,11 studies focused on long-distance runners,and 1 study focused on both types of runners.A previous running-related injury was the strongest risk factor for an injury for long-distance runners,with moderate-quality *** injuries not attributed to running was the strongest risk factor for an injury for short-distance runners,with high-quality *** body mass index,higher age,sex(male),having no previous running experience,and lower running volume were strong risk factors,with moderate quality evidence,for short-distance ***-quality evidence was found for all risk models as predictors of runningrelated injuries among short-and long-distance ***:Several risk factors for lower extremity injuries have been identified among short-and long-distance runners,but the quality of evidence for these risk factors for running-related injuries is *** injuries seem to have a multifactorial origin both in short-and long-distance runners.

Treatment responses in Asians and Caucasians with chronic hepatitis C infection

AIM:To conduct a multicentre retrospective review of virological response rates in Asians infected with genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C(CHC) treated with combination interferon and ribavirin and then to compare their responses to that among ***:Asian patients infected with genotype 1 CHC treated at 4 Australian centres between 2001 to 2005 were identified through hospital *** demographic characteristics,biochemical,virological and histological data and details of treatment were *** virological responses(SVR) in this cohort were then compared to that in Caucasian subjects,matched by genotype,age,gender and the stage of hepatic ***:A total of 108 Asians with genotype 1 CHC were *** end of treatment response(ETR) for the cohort was 79% while the SVR was 67%.Due to the relatively advanced age of the Asian cohort,only sixty-four subjects could be matched with *** ETR among matched Asians and Caucasians was 81% and 56% respectively(P=0.003),while the SVR rates were 73% and 36%(P <0.001) *** difference remained significant after adjusting for other predictive variables.
