Background and Aims:The prevalence of chronic liver dis-ease in adults exceeds 30%in some countries and there is significant interest in developing tests and treatments to help control disease progression and reduce healthcare *** is a rich sampling matrix that offers non-invasive so-lutions suitable for early-stage detection and disease *** previously investigated targeted analysis of a single biomarker,here we investigated a multiparametric approach to breath testing that would provide more robust and reliable results for clinical ***:To identify can-didate biomarkers we compared 46 breath samples from cir-rhosis patients and 42 from *** and analysis used Breath Biopsy OMNI™,maximizing signal and contrast to background to provide high confidence biomarker detec-tion based upon gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-MS).Blank samples were also analyzed to provide de-tailed information on background volatile organic compounds(VOCs)***:A set of 29 breath VOCs differed significantly between cirrhosis and controls.A classification model based on these VOCs had an area under the curve(AUC)of 0.95±0.04 in cross-validated test *** seven best performing VOCs were sufficient to maximize classifica-tion performance.A subset of 11 VOCs was correlated with blood metrics of liver function(bilirubin,albumin,prothrom-bin time)and separated patients by cirrhosis severity using principal component ***:A set of seven VOCs consisting of previously reported and novel candidates show promise as a panel for liver disease detection and mon-itoring,showing correlation to disease severity and serum biomarkers at late stage.

Exploratory Study of Intolerance of Uncertainty and Its Cognitive Processes by the Stroop Task among Parents of a Childhood Cancer Survivor

*** study has examined the relationship between the factor of intolerance of uncertainty and its effects on the cognitive processes among parents of a childhood cancer *** of uncertainty is a central factor in generalized anxiety disorder;an anxiety disorder in which impaired processing of cognitive information in the form of cognitive biases is also *** aim of the study was to measure,via a classical Stroop test and an emotional Stroop test,the orientation of selective attention in relation to the uncertainty intolerance ***.61 parents of a childhood cancer survivor(aged 4 to 6 years)were recruited from hospitals in the Province of Liege(Belgium).Parents completed questionnaires on intolerance of uncertainty and its associated factors(i.e.,usefulness of worry,cognitive avoidance,problem-solving attitude,and ruminations)and performed a Stroop test and an emotional Stroop *** correlations and multiple linear regressions were *** results indicated positive and significant correlations between the emotional Stroop(negative interference index)and intolerance to uncertainty but also with repetitive thoughts(ruminations)and *** regressions showed that depressive symptoms seem to contribute to explaining longer latencies for the interference condition(color word written in another color).*** have been published to improve the management of parents of a childhood cancer survivor,but parent-centered neuropsychological studies are still needed and should be developed to improve prevention and detection initiatives for these families.

Zygotic chromosomal structural aberrations after paternal drug treatment

In recent years, the field of male-mediated reproductive toxicology has received growing attention. It is now well-established that many drugs, chemicals, and environmental factors can harm male germ cells by inducing DNA damage. Male germ cells have extensive repair mechanisms that allow detection and repair of damaged DNA during the early phases of spermatogenesis. However, during the later phase of spermiogenesis, when the haploid spermatids undergo chromatin condensation and become transcriptionally quiescent, their ability to repair damaged DNA is lost. It is also thought that the highly compacted chromatin of the sperm can protect DNA against damage. Therefore, it is expected that late spermatids will be most susceptible to DNA damaging agents. Unrepaired or misrepaired damage in the germ cells leads to the generation of spermatozoa with DNA damage that can be transmitted to the next generation. Fortunately, the maternal DNA repair machinery is capable of recognizing and repairing, at least to some degree, damaged paternal DNA after fertilization in the zygote. Therefore, the efficiency of the maternal repair machinery will greatly influence the risk of transmitting paternal DNA damage to offspring.

Seed wasp invasions promoted by unregulated seed trade affect vegetal and animal biodiversity

Cone and seed insects are considered the most important predators of tree seeds during the pre-dispersal phase of *** them,exotic seed chalcids in the genus Megastigmus invaded Europe as a result of the rapidly-increasing and mostly unregulated seed trade for afforestation and ornamental *** their economic impact in seed orchards,until recently,little attention was paid to the ecological impact of these *** the present study,selected case studies of alien Megastigmus *** considered to assess their specific impact on the potential of natural regeneration of native woody plants and on the native entomofauna competing for seed *** re-analyzed data from former studies that did not focus on these ecological interactions and,here,present previously unpublished *** of Douglas-fir,true cedars,true firs and wild roses were sampled all over Europe,and the relative importance of the native and invasive chalcid species was assessed as well as their specific impact on seed *** most cases,the recent arrival of alien chalcids resulted in a significant decrease in the regeneration potential of the host *** the absence of competitors,alien chalcids occupied the entire seed niche in Douglas-fir,but their impact tended to decrease after the arrival of invasive seed *** firs,alien chalcids tended to displace the native chalcids,but not in wild roses and cedars,where their damage was *** biological traits that might explain invasive success of alien chalcids are ***,no general invasive patterns seem to exist.

After the microbiology based on Pasteur's method and polymerase chain reaction(PCR), the diagnosis company named Dendris has proposed a third-generation of diagnosis enabling the search of a broad range of pathogens with strong sensitivity and specificity. This extraordinary profile was possible thanks to the use of phosphorus dendrimers for which various techniques of deposition on a given support were investigated and described and analyzed in this report.

Numerous studies dated glacial deposits within the Himalayan-Tibetan *** most focus on young deposits,i.e.,younger than the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM or Marine oxygen Isotope Stage(MIS)-2,~20 ka),older moraines such as those from MIS-6(~130–191 ka)are much harder to date and interpret due to the less well-preserved nature of their surfaces and boulders,as well as their scattered and continuous age distribution due to long-lived erosion since ***,we dated with~(10)Be,two imbricated moraines near Yadong in southern Tibet,as MIS-2 and 6,showing that the most extensive,smooth surfaces were abandoned during *** published data from 54 MIS-6 moraines on the Tibetan Plateau reveals that they exist in most regions,dry or *** are particularly well-preserved(sharp crests)in eastern and northern Tibet,while in southern and central Tibet,their crests are rounded to *** both MIS-2 and 6 were equally cold,and because MIS-6 moraines are much more extensive than those from the LGM,we conclude that MIS-6 glacial advances were controlled by more abundant precipitation than during *** would be consistent with the peak in Asian monsoon during MIS-6,revealed by sediments from the South China Sea.

AIM: To determine if hyperpolarisation-activated nucleotide-gated(HCN) channels exist in human colon, and to investigate the expression of HCN channels in Hirschsprung's ***:We investigated HCN1,HCN2,HCN3 and HCN4 protein expression in pull-through specimens from patients with Hirschsprung’s disease(HSCR,n=10)using the proximal-most ganglionic segment and distalmost aganglionic segment,as well as in healthy control specimens obtained at the time of sigmoid colostomy closure in children who had undergone anorectoplasty for imperforate anus(n=10).Fluorescent immunohistochemistry was performed to assess protein distribution,which was then visualized using confocal ***:No HCN1 channel expression was observed in any of the tissues *** HCN2 and HCN4proteins were found to be equally expressed in the aganglionic and ganglionic bowel in HSCR and ***3 channel expression was found to be markedly decreased in the aganglionic colon vs ganglionic colon and ***2-4 channels were seen to be expressed within neurons of the myenteric and submucosal plexus of the ganglionic bowel and normal controls,and also co-localised to interstitial cells of Cajal in all tissues ***:We demonstrate HCN channel expression in human colon for the first *** HCN3expression in aganglionic bowel suggests its potential role in HSCR pathophysiology.

Deficiency of platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α-positive cells in Hirschsprung's disease colon

AIM: To investigate whether the expression of platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α-positive (PDGFRα+)-cells is altered in Hirschsprung’s disease (HD).METHODS: HD tissue specimens (n = 10) were collected at the time of pull-through surgery, while colonic control samples were obtained at the time of colostomy closure in patients with imperforate anus (n = 10). Immunolabelling of PDGFRα+-cells was visualized using confocal microscopy to assess the distribution of these cells, while Western blot analysis was undertaken to quantify PDGFRα protein ***: Confocal microscopy revealed PDGFRα+-cells within the mucosa, myenteric plexus and smooth muscle in normal controls, with a marked reduction in PDGFRα+-cells in the HD specimens. Western blotting revealed high levels of PDGFRα protein expression in normal controls, while there was a striking decrease in PDGFRα protein expression in the HD ***: These findings suggest that the altered distribution of PDGFRα+-cells in both the aganglionic and ganglionic HD bowel may contribute to the motility dysfunction in HD.

The 17q12-21 locus harboring ORMDL sphingolipid biosynthesis regulator 3(ORMDL3)and Gasdermin B(GSDMB)genes exhibits one of the most significant and replicated associations with asthma[MIM:600807](Stein et al.,2018).Several studies explored the complex interactions between SNPs,gene expression and epigenetic modifications at this locus,primarily focusing on the levels of expressed ORMDL3 and GSDMB(Stein et al.,2018).Given that DNA methylation and gene expression signals are cell-type specific(Reinius et al.,2012),isolated materials such as lymphocytes from blood and,to a lesser extent,bronchial epithelial cells from biopsies of bronchi or bronchoalveolar lavages have been used in a number of studies to investigate such interactions(Stein et al.,2018).
