In the recent years, photocatalytic self-cleaning and ＂depolluting＂ materials have been suggested as a remediation technology mainly for NOx and aromatic VOCs in urban areas. A number of products incorporating the aforementioned technology have been made commercially available with the aim to improve urban air quality. These commercial products are based on the photocatalytic properties of a thin layer of TiO2 at the surface of the material （such as glass, pavement, etc.） or embedded in paints or concrete. The use of TiO2 photocatalysts as an emerging air pollution control technology has been reported in many locations worldwide. However, up to now, the effectiveness measured in situ and theexpected positive impact on air quality of this relatively new technology has only been demonstrated in a limited manner. Assessing and demonstrating the effectiveness of these depolluting techniques in real scale applications aims to create a real added value, in terms of policy making （i.e., implementing air quality strategies） and economics （by providing a demonstration of the actual performance of a new technique）.

Background:Mathematical models propose leg length as a limiting factor in determining the maximum walking *** study evaluated the effectiveness of a leg length-based model in predicting maximum walking velocity in an applied race walking situation,by comparing experienced and novice race walkers during conditions where strictly no flight time(FT)was permitted and in simulated competition conditions(i.e.,FTethods:Thirty-four participants(18 experienced and l6 novice race walkers)were recruited for this *** Optojump Next system(8 m)was used to determine walking velocity,step frequency,step length,ground contact time,and FT during race walking over a range of *** were made between novice and experienced participants in predicted maximum velocity and actual velocities achieved with no flight and velocities with FTechnical effectiveness of the participants was assessed using the ratio of maximum velocity to predicted ***:In novices,no significant difference was found between predicted and maximum walking speeds without FT but there was a small 5.8%gain in maximum speed when FT≤40 *** experienced race walkers,there was a significant reduction in maximum walking speed compared with predicted maximum(peed with FTeg length was a good predictor of maximal walking velocity in novice walkers but not a good predictor of maximum walking speed in well-trained walkers who appear to have optimised their walking technique to make use of non-visible flight periods of less than 40 *** gain in velocity above predicted maximum may be a useful index of race walking proficiency.

AIM: To establish the role of enteric glial cells during infection with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) in Crohn's disease. MeTHODS: In order to establish the role of enteric glial cells during infection with M. avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) in Crohn's disease, Map adhesion experiments on enteric glial cells were performed as well as expression analysis of Map sigma factors during infection. ReSULTS: In this study, for the first time, we found a high affinity of MAP to enteric glial cells and we analyzed the expression of MAP sigma factors under different conditions of growth. CONCLUSION: The fact that Map showed a high affinity to the glial cells raises concerns about the complicated etiology of the Crohn's disease. elucidation of the mechanisms whereby inflammation alters enteric neural control of gut functions may lead to novel treatments for Crohn's disease.

Using biomass from dedicated crops for energy production and natural vegetation regrowth are key elements in future climate change mitigation ***,there are still uncertainties about the mitigation potentials that can be achieved by the different land-based systems and how they perform relative to each *** this study,we use harmonized future land use datasets to identify global land areas dedicated to second generation bioenergy crop production in 2050 under different climate *** then assess the global climate change mitigation potentials of using biomass for producing bioethanol with(BeCCS)or without carbon capture and storage,biochar,or a synthetic fuel(e-methanol).For the latter,the electricity required to produce hydrogen for e-methanol synthesis is sourced from either wind power or the projected average electricity mix in *** potential from natural regrowth on the identified land is also *** all the cases,we modelled emissions of greenhouse gases from the life-cycle stages and use parameterized models to estimate local biomass growth *** identified land areas range from 1.95 to 13.8 million hectares and can provide from 30 to 178 mega ton(Mt)dry biomass annually from dedicated *** change mitigation potentials range from 11 to 257 MtCO_(2)-***^(−1),depending on technological option and land *** largest mitigation is delivered by BeCCS,but e-methanol can achieve similar findings when hydrogen is sourced from wind *** hydrogen is produced from grid electricity,e-methanol can result in net positive emissions.e-methanol can also deliver more final energy than bioethanol(4.04 vs.1.27 eJ yr^(−1)).Natural vegetation regrowth can generally achieve higher mitigation than bioethanol,but less than *** optimal combination of BeCCS and natural vegetation regrowth can achieve a larger mitigation,up to 281 MtCO_(2)-***^(−1),indicating that integrated solutions can help to achieve suc
