Toluene degradation by a water/silicone oil mixture for the design of two p.ase p.rtitioning bioreactors

Toluene degradation p.rformances were studied in a 10 L Two-p.ase p.rtitioning Bioreactor(Tp.B).The liquid p.ase consisted of a mixture of water and p.MS 50(p.ly Di Methyl Siloxane,*** oil,viscosity of 46 m p.·s) in the volume ratio of 75%/25%.Two series of exp.riments were carried out:in the first,the reactor was sequentially sup.lied with toluene whereas in the second,toluene was continuously *** sludge from the wastewater treatment p.ant of Beaurade(Rennes,France) was used at an initial concentration of 0.5 dry mass g·(mixture L)^(-1).The elimination cap.city(EC) was investigated as well as the change in biomass concentration over *** biodegradation was very ef ficient(removal ef ficiency,RE=100%) for toluene flows ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 ml·h^(-1),corresp.nding to elimination cap.cities of up.to 104 g·m^(-3)·h^(-1).For a toluene flow of 1.2 ml·h^(-1),the biomass concentration measured at the end of the exp.riment was 4.7 dry mass g·(mixture L)^(-1).The oxygen concentration in the liquid p.ase was clearly not a limiting factor in these op.rating *** on these results,an extrap.lation leading to the design of a large-scale p.lot Tp.B can now be considered to study toluene degradation p.rformances in industrial conditions.

BACKGROUND p.tients with Crohn’s disease(CD)are at risk of develop.ng comp.ications such as p.rianal *** with Crohn’s p.rianal fistulas(Cp.)are affected by fecal incontinence(FI),bleeding,p.in,swelling,and p.rulent p.rianal discharge,and METHODS This cross-sectional observational study was conducted in p.tients with CD aged 21-90 years via a web-enabled questionnaire in seven countries(Ap.il-August 2021).p.tients were recruited into three cohorts:Cohort 1 included p.tients without p.rianal fistulas;cohort 2 included p.tients with p.rianal fistulas without fistula-related surgery;and cohort 3 included p.tients with p.rianal fistulas and fistula-related *** p.tient-rep.rted outcome measures were used to assess quality of *** of treatment p.eferences were measured using a discrete choice exp.riment(DCE).RESULTS In total,929 p.tients were recruited(cohort 1,n=620;cohort 2,n=174;cohort 3,n=135).Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire scores were worse for p.tients with Cp.(cohorts 2 and 3)than for those with CD without Cp.(cohort 1):Mean score 3.8 and 3.7 vs 4.1,resp.ctively,(p.0.001).Similarly,mean Revised FI and FI Quality of Life scores were worse for p.tients with Cp. than for those with CD without *** of Life with Anal Fistula scores were similar in p.tients with Cp. with or without Cp.-related surgery(cohorts 2 and 3):Mean score 41 and 42,*** the DCE,p.stop.rative discomfort and fistula healing rate were the most imp.rtant treatment attributes influencing treatment choice:Mean relative imp.rtance 35.7 and 24.7,*** The burden of illness in CD is significantly higher for p.tients with Cp. and p.tients rate lower p.stop.rative discomfort and higher healing rates as the most desirable treatment attributes.
