Comparison of selected inflammation-based prognostic markers in relapsed or refractory metastatic colorectal cancer patients

AIM: To inv.stigate the impact of systemic inflammationbased prognostic markers on ov.rall surv.v.l in relapsed/refractory metastatic colorectal cancer(m CRC) patients. METHODS: To inv.stigate prognostic markers in m CRC patients,this study was performed with patients who hav. experienced relapsed/refractory m CRC with standard chemotherapy or were inapplicable to conv.ntional treatment modality because of poor performance status,age,or comorbidity. We rev.ewed the medical records of 177 m CRC patients managed with Korean Medicine(KM) treatment modality using an anticancer agent of Rhus v.rniciflua Stokes extract from June 2006 to April 2013. The clinicopathologic characteristics,laboratory test,the systemic inflammation markers including the modified Glasgow prognostic score(m GPS),neutrophil lymphocyte ratio(NLR),platelet lymphocyte ratio(PLR),lymphocyte monocyte ratio(LMR),and prognostic nutritional index(PNI) were analyzed. The ov.rall surv.v.l of patients was calculated with the Kaplan-Meier method and the statistical significance was compared using with the log-rank test. To compare the impact of systemic inflammation based markers,the hazard ratio(HR) of m GPS,NLR,PLR,LMR,and PNI for ov.rall surv.v.l were ev.luated with the Cox proportional hazards ***: The majority of m CRC patients had relapsed/refractory to standard chemotherapy; 128 patients(72.3%) had undergone more than second line chemotherapy,and the median time from diagnosis of m CRC to initiation of KM was 9.4 mo. The median ov.rall surv.v.l of enrolled patients was 8.3 mo. On univ.riate analyses,the inflammation markers of higher m GPS(P 300(P = 0.004),LMR ≤ 3.4(P v.v.l time. On stepwise multiv.riate proportional hazards model,m GPS at 2 v. 0(HR = 3.212,95%CI: 1.437-7.716,P = 0.004),and LMR ≤ 3.4(HR = 1.658,95%CI: 1.092-2.518,P = 0.018) as independent predictors assoc

Prev.ous social experience may affect subsequent behav.or. It was shown by other authors that Drosophila melanogaster males kept indiv.dually are more aggressiv. and sexually activ. than males kept in a group. In the present study, we tested the locomotor activ.ty of indiv.dual males and females prev.ously reared either indiv.dually, or in a group. We found that keeping 20 young males for three days together led to a strong long-term (up to 5 days) reduction in their further locomotor activ.ty as indiv.duals. Rearing of young males in groups of other sizes (2, 5, 10, and 30) produced a smaller or no after-effect. At the same time, we hav. not found any difference in subsequent behav.or of indiv.dual females prev.ously kept either indiv.dually, or in a group. We suppose that in a group, flies learned to suppress their locomotor activ.ty to prev.nt unpleasant contacts with other animals (operant learning). It seems that in males this learning is more efficient because of the higher lev.l of aggression producing the stronger negativ. reinforcement.

Irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） and chronic pelv.c pain （CPP） are both somatoform disorders with a high prev.lence within the population in general. The objectiv. was to compare both entities, to find the differences and the similarities related to epidemiology and psychosocial aspects like stressful life ev.nts, physical and sexual abuse, illness behav.our and comorbidity. The technical literature was rev.ewed systematically from 1971 to 2006 and compared. According to literature, IBS and CPP seem to be one rather than two different entities with the same Iocalisation of pain. Both syndromes also are similar concerning prev.lence, the coexistence of mental and somatoform disorders, the common history of sexual and physical abuse in the past and their health care utilization. It could be shown that there were many similarities between IBS and CPP. Nev.rtheless both are traded as different clinical pictures as far. Therefore it seems to be reasonable and necessary to generate a common diagnosis algorithm and to bring gynaecologists and gastroenterologists into dialogue.

AIM: To assess the effect of non-selectiv. ETA/B (LU 302872)and selectiv. ETA (LU 302146) antagonist on pancreatic histology and ultrastructure of acinar cells in connection with trypsinogen activ.tion in early caerulein-induced ***: Male Wistar rats with caerulein-induced AP,lasting 4 h, were treated i.p. with 10 and 20 mg/kg *** each antagonist. Edema, inflammatory infiltration,necrosis and v.cuolization of acinar cells in the pancreas were scored at 0-3 scale. Free activ. trypsin (FAT), total potential trypsin (TPT) after activ.tion with enterokinase,and index of trypsinogen activ.tion (%FAT/TPT) were assayed in pancreatic ***: In untreated AP, the edema, inflammatory infiltration, necrosis and v.cuolization increased as compared to control healthy rats (P＜0.01). None of the treatment exerted any meaningful effect on the edema and inflammatory infiltration. The selectiv. antagonist increased slightly the necrosis score to 0.82±0.06 at higher dose (P＜0.05) v. 0.58±0.06 in untreated AP. The nonselectiv. antagonist increased slightly the v.cuolization score to 2.41±0.07 at higher dose (P＜0.01) v. 1.88±0.08in untreated AP. The decrease in the number of zymogen granules, disorganization of endoplasmic reticulum,autophagosomes and cytoplasmic v.cuoles were more prominent in treated AP than in untreated AP groups.%FAT/TPT in untreated AP increased about four times (18.4±3.8 v.4.8±1.3 in control group without AP, P＜0.001).Treatment of AP with both antagonists did not affect significantly augmented trypsinogen ***: The treatment with endothelin-1 receptors (non-selectiv. Juv.nile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is characterised by myoclonia during awakening, generalised tonic-clonic seizures, typical absences and usually presents for the first time at the age of 12 to 18 years old. This article describes the results of a clinical study into JME phenotypes in patients liv.ng in the Siberian Federal District. We hav. shown that the incidence of JME among males was lower than among females (1:1.9) and JME debut age for males was higher than in those women. Classical phenotype of JME (Type I) was dominant and more common in males compared to females—70.4% v.. 58.5%, respectiv.ly. The JME phenotype with worse prognosis in terms of achiev.ng stable clinical remission (Type II) occurred 3.5 times more frequently among female patients compared to male (13.2% v.. 3.7% respectiv.ly). The findings resulting from this study giv. a deeper insight into the diagnosis and prognosis of this form of idiopathic generalised epilepsy in predisposed families.
