A combined technique of kalman filter, artificial neural network and fuzzy logic for gas turbines and signal fault isolation

The target of this paper is the performance-based diagnostics of a gas turbine for the automated early detection of components malfunctions. The paper proposes a new combination of multiple methodologies for the performance-based diagnostics of single and multiple failures on a two-spool engine. The aim of this technique is to combine the strength of each methodology and provide a high success rate for single and multiple failures with the presence of measurement malfunctions. A combination of kF(kalman Filter), ANN(Artificial Neural Network) and FL(Fuzzy Logic) is used in this research in order to improve the success rate, to increase the flexibility and the number of failures detected and to combine the strength of multiple methods to have a more robust solution. The kalman filter has in his strength the measurement noise treatment, the artificial neural network the simulation and prediction of reference and deteriorated performance profile and the fuzzy logic the categorization flexibility, which is used to quantify and classify the failures. In the area of GT(Gas Turbine) diagnostics, the multiple failures in combination with measurement issues and the utilization of multiple methods for a 2-spool industrial gas turbine engine has not been investigated *** paper reports the key contribution of each component of the methodology and brief the results in the quantification and classification success rate. The methodology is tested for constant deterioration and increasing noise and for random deterioration. For the random deterioration and nominal noise of 0.4%, in particular, the quantification success rate is above 92.0%, while the classification success rate is above 95.1%. Moreover, the speed of the data processing(1.7 s/sample)proves the suitability of this methodology for online diagnostics.

Rauvolfia serpentina-Mediated Green Synthesis of CuO Nanoparticles and Its Multidisciplinary Studies

Copper oxide nanoparticles （CuO Nps） were successfully synthesized by solution combustion method using aqueous leaf extract of Rauvolfia serpentina as a fuel. The structure and morphology of the CuO nanoparticles （Nps） were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction （PXRD）, UV-visible spectroscopy （UV-visible）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, etc. The PXRD patterns reveal the formation of monoclinic phase with crystallite structure. SEM images indicate that the particles have sponge-like structure being highly porous and agglom- erated with large surface area. The average crystallite sizes were found to be in the range of 10-20 nm by Scherrer＇s method. The CuO Nps size was further confirmed by TEM. Further, CuO Nps exhibit good photocatalytic activity for the photodegradation of trypan blue dye, indicating that it acts as a promising semiconducting material. The antibacterial properties of CuO nanoparticles were investigated against pathogenic bacterial strains, namely Gram -ve Escherichia coli （NCIM-5051） and Pseudomonas desmolyticum （NCIM-2028） and Gram ＋ve bacteria Staphylococcus aureus （NCIM- 5022） using the agar well diffusion method.

Feasibility of the partial-single arc technique in RapidArc planning for prostate cancer treatment

The volumetric modulated arc therapy(VMAT)technique,in the form of RapidArc,is widely used to treat prostate *** full-single arc(f-SA)technique in RapidArc planning for prostate cancer treatment provides efficient treatment,but it also delivers a higher radiation dose to the *** study aimed to compare the dosimetric results from the new partial-single arc(p-SA)technique with those from the f-SA technique in RapidArc planning for prostate cancer *** this study,10 patients with lowrisk prostate cancer were *** each patient,two sets of RapidArc plans(f-SA and p-SA)were created in the Eclipse treatment planning *** f-SA plan was created using one full arc,and the p-SA plan was created using planning parameters identical to those of the f-SA plan but with anterior and posterior avoidance *** dosimetric parameters of the f-SA and p-SA plans were evaluated and compared for the same target coverage and identical plan optimization *** f-SA and p-SA plans showed an average difference of±1%for the doses to the planning target volume(PTV),and there were no clear differences in dose homogeneity or plan *** comparison to the f-SA technique,the p-SA technique reduced the doses to the rectum by approximately 6.1%to 21.2%,to the bladder by approximately 10.3%to 29.5%,and to the penile bulb by approximately 2.2%.In contrast,the dose to the femoral heads,the integral dose,and the number of monitor units were higher in the p-SA plans by approximately 34.4%,7.7%,and 9.2%,*** conclusion,it is feasible to use the p-SA technique for RapidArc planning for prostate cancer *** the same PTV coverage and identical plan optimization parameters,the p-SA technique is better in sparing the rectum and bladder without compromising plan conformity or target homogeneity when compared to the f-SA technique.

Effect of Reduction in Peak Expiratory Flow Rate on Blood Pressure of Sand Stone Mine Workers

Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) measures the airflow through the bronchi and thus the degree of obstruction in the airways. Exposure to high concentration of respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM) decreases the PEFR and the decrease depends upon the exposure concentration of particles and exposure duration. The decrease in PEFR is found to be responsible for increase in blood pressure (BP). Relationship between increase in BP and reduction in PEFR is not exactly linear but it can be considered as liner. It is noticed that if PEFR is reduced to about 50% to 60% in that case sudden increase in BP is recorded and behaviour of BP rise has complex pattern. It is also an established fact that if PEFR is reduced more than 50%, this is treated as severe respiratory problem. There are many factors (i.e. smoking habits, medical treatment, physiology, etc.) which may govern the increase of BP in this condition. Estimated relationship is found as: ISBP = 0.213 + 0.263 IPEF, IDBP = 0.102 + 0.176 IPEF.

Microfluidics: Rapid Diagnosis for Breast Cancer

Breast cancer affected 1.7 million people worldwide in 2012 and accounts for approximately 23.3 % of all cancers diagnosed in women. The disease is characterized by a genetic mutation, either inherited or resulting from environmental factors, that causes uncontrollable cellular growth of breast tissue or adjacent tissues. Current means of diagnosing this disease depend on the individual analyzing the results from bulky, highly technical, and expensive equipment that is not globally accessible. As a result, patients can go undiagnosed due to a lack of available equipment or be overdiagnosed due to human error. This review attempts to highlight current means of diagnosing breast cancer and critically analyze their effectiveness and usefulness in terms of patient survival. An alternative means based on microfluidics biomarker detection is then presented. This method can be considered as a primary screening tool for diagnosing breast cancer based on its robustness, high throughput, low energy requirements, and accessibility to the general public.

Physicochemical properties,antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of coumarin-carbonodithioate hybrids

Objective:To study physicochemical properties,antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of coumarin-carbonodithioate ***:The substituted 4-bromomethyl coumarins were synthesized in first step by the *** the reaction of substituted coumarins(a-e)with potassium O-ethyl/methyl carbonodithioate(1)by using absolute ethanol as solvent,afforded coumarin-carbonodithioate(1a-1j)derivatives under microwave irradiation and the conventional *** spectroscopic analysis was used for the characterization of coumarin *** title(1a-1j)compounds were confirmed by spectroscopic *** property was evaluated by using DPPH free radical-scavenging ability assay method and anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by protein denaturation procedure using diclofenac sodium as a ***-silico toxicity was predicted with LD_(50)value and bioactivity score was also calculated for all the ***:All coumarin(1a-1j)compounds exhibited promisingin-vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in comparison to standard *** tested compounds were used for evaluating their physicochemical properties as set by Lipinski *** was observed that the synthesized compounds followed rule of five,indicating more'drug-like'***:All the screened coumarin-carbonodithioates display promising in vitro antioxidant and antiinflammatory *** the physicochemical properties of coumarin derivatives,it is found that none of the compounds violate the Lipinski rule and they fall well in the range of rule of *** is concluded that the coumarin-carbonodithioate hybrids act with more'drug-like'nature.

Ten mg dexrabeprazole daily has been shown to be more effective than 20 mg rabeprazole daily against gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This report shows that the efficacy of 10 mg dexrabeprazole daily is equivalent to that of 20 mg dexrabeprazole daily against GERD. This implies that a dose of 10 mg dexra- beprazole is sufficient to block the maximum amount of proton pumps without any need to double the dose as suggested with rabeprazole.

Catalytic Cracking of Waste Polypropylene in a Nitrogen Fluidized Bed Reactor

Polypropylene (PP) is rated first as volume leader in the plastic sector. Its non-biodegradable property poses serious environmental problem in case of disposal. The catalytic cracking of PP was performed with various catalysts i.e. ZSM-5, Zeolite, RB and SPS. The cracking was observed under different feed to catalyst ratio i.e. 1:1 to 5:1. The fluidized bed reactor was fabricated with arrangement to measure the temperature ranging from 100。C to 800。C. The effective of feed to catalyst ratio was found 3:1 at a temperature range of 420。C - 510。C and catalyst ZSM-5 gives maximum liquid conversion of waste PP. Conversion of PP to liquid fuel will not only resolve the problem of disposal of waste polypropylene plastic but also give a value aided product.
