Now one of the main cash crops in Côte d’Ivoire, the cashew tree feeds an entire industrial sector based on the processing of its fruit. This processing generates a large volume of waste, consisting of cashew nutshells, the management of which poses environmental problems. With the aim of replacing charcoal and firewood with more environmentally friendly fuels, several studies are currently being carried out into the optimal use of cashew shells in fuel briquettes. To assess the environmental sustainability of these briquettes, this study calculates the environmental impacts associated with their life cycle, compares them with those of charcoal and firewood, and identifies the processes that contribute most to environmental pollution, with a view to improving them. Analysis of the results showed that cashew nutshell briquettes emit a range of pollutants over their life cycle that damage the environment and are responsible for the 7 impact categories considered: acidification, eutrophication, freshwater aquatic ecotoxicity, global warming, human toxicity, photochemical oxidation and terrestrial ecotoxicity potential. However, they are more environmentally friendly than charcoal and firewood for 5 impact categories: freshwater aquatic ecotoxicity, global warming, human toxicity, photochemical oxidation and terrestrial ecotoxicity potential. The 3 elementary processes, i.e. transport of biomass raw materials, production, and combustion of briquettes, emit pollutants that contribute most to the creation of environmental impact categories. The most relevant pollutants are nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter (PM).

Our objective was to evaluate which demographic factors or assisted reproductive technologies were associated with IVF triplet gestations where one of the embryos split, resulting in a dichorionic triplet gestation. This was a case-control study of dichorionic versus trichorionic triplet gestations that underwent assisted reproductive technology over the last 5 years at our fertility center. There were 53 cases of dichorionic triamniotic triplet gestations compared to 119 trichorionic triplet controls. There were no significant demographic differences between the cases and controls. 51/53 dichorionic triplets and 86/119 trichorionic triplets were conceived through IVF, the remaining utilized intrauterine insemination. ICSI was performed in virtually all patients that underwent IVF. Of the potential risk factors studied, hatching was used in 70.6% of dichorionic compared to 89.5% of trichorionic IVF triplets (p = 0.005);embryo transfer was performed on day 5 or 6 compared to day 3 in 88.0% dichorionic vs 71.8% trichorionic (p = 0.028). Frozen sperm was utilized more frequently with dichorionic than with trichorionic triplets, 26.0% vs 10.9% (p derwent pre-implantation genetics. Certain assisted reproductive technologies appear to be associated with embryo splitting and a dichorionic triplet gestation. More research is needed in this area to further elucidate these findings.

目的：评估静脉注射甲基强的松龙（IVMP）对外伤性视神经病变患者的疗效。方法：回顾性分析2000-01至2007-06我院收治的16例外伤性视神经病变（TON）患者的临床资料。1g甲基强的松龙分3d静脉应用，然后口服泼尼松龙11d，并逐渐减量。记录从损伤开始到治疗开始的时间。视力变化是本研究结果的主要功能评价指标。在入院时，治疗后1，2，3d；1wk和1mo时，分别记录最佳矫正视力（BCVA）。结果：共有16例患者纳入本研究，平均年龄为30岁，其中男性14例、女性2例。引起TON的主要原因有摩托车事故（占69％），打架斗殴（占19％）和体育运动（占12％）。所有患者都表现有相对传入性瞳孔障碍。在损伤后4d内开始静脉注射甲基强的松龙，采用Snellen视力表检查视力，绝大部分（56％）患者视力提高超过3行或大于等于0．5（6／12）。在损伤后5d以上才开始用类固醇治疗，视力则没有任何进步。结论：治疗TON，静脉注射中等到大剂量甲基强的松龙仍将起到重要作用。静脉注射甲基强的松龙治疗TON可能存在伤后4d的关键时期，超过了这个时期，该治疗可能就毫无效果。但还需要有更多的研究来为我们提供有明显统计学意义的数据。
