Snow damage on natural stands is an important problem concerning mountainous forest *** the present research,the frequency and intensity of heavy snow damage on natural stands and the relationship of damages with characteristics of trees,stand and topography were studied in mountainous forests of northern Iran.A systematic sampling design was applied to the study area(140 ha),with 122 circular *** grid dimension was100 m and each plot area was 1000 m^*** four types of snow damage to trees include:crown damage(8.6%),stem breakage(5.4%),uprooting(3.2%),and bending(1.4%).The frequency of crown damage grew with an increase inthe diameter at breast height(DBH),while the frequency of stem breakage,uprooting and bending decreased with an increase the *** frequency of crown damage,stem breakage,and total damages was related to tree species(plope angle and decreased with increasing soil *** trees(DBH<25 cm)were more susceptible to snow damage than other *** damage decreased by as the trees in the stand became more mixed in *** susceptibility of trees to snow damage increased by height and slenderness *** adequate silvicultural operation,snow damage can be reduced to a minimum level in these natural forests.

This study aims to investigate wood density at different levels of moisture, basic density and shrinkage of timber from Turkey oak （Quercus cerris L.） coppice forests growing in Central Italy. We also studied the variability in density in the trees within and among sites. Density shows no significant statistical differences in the tested population. A higher variability in the shrinkage than in the density was found. Wood moisture is referred to as dry mass and fresh mass, which is related to many performance characteristics of wood, i.e., energy production. Trends in moisture and water content were studied because these physical parameters play an important role in the specific area of firewood which requires an accurate estimation of mass, volume and energy content. This work is a contribution to improve xylo-energy estimates of small and medium forestry issues.

This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the costs of different logging systems, in particular considering three different bunching-extraction methods. Moreover the stumpage value of each plot was calculated, and a comparison analysis of the results is presented. The work was carried out in Central Italy, in an aged Quercus cerris L. coppice in hill zones, with a 45% average slope. Short wood system harvesting was applied. Felling and processing were performed by chainsaw, while extraction with three different methods： plot No. 1 with mules, plot No. 2 with a tractor with winch, plot No. 3 with polyethylene chute line. Transport of firewood from the forest track to the landing was made by a tractor loaded as a mule. In the plot No. 1 the costs per unit mass （30.76 ∈·t33% ^-1） were higher despite having the lower cost per hour （39.99∈·th^- 1）. The reason was the lower productivity （1.3 t33%·h^-1）. The plot No. 2 had the highest cost per hour （66.79 ∈·h^-1）. However, productivity was the highest （2.7 t33%·h^- 1）. This aspect was notable from the financial point of view （24.74 ∈·t33%^-1）. Plot No. 3 was the less expensive （23.92 ∈·t33%^-1）. Comparing the three methods, a reduction of the costs through more appropriate extraction systems may increase the stumpage value from 8.3 to 9.65 ∈·t33%^- 1.

Emerging contaminants have commonly been observed in environmental waters but have not been included in water quality assessments at many locations around the *** evaluate the availability of reclaimed water in Kinmen,Taiwan,this study provides the first survey of the distribution of thirty-three pharmaceuticals and five perfluorinated chemicals in lake waters and water from local wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).The results showed that the target emerging contaminants in Kinmen lakes were at trace ng/L *** addition,most of the target compounds were present in the Jincheng and Taihu WWTP influents at ng/L concentrations levels,of which 5 compounds(erythromycin-H2O(1340 ng/L),ibuprofen(1763 ng/L),atenolol(1634 ng/L),acetaminophen(2143 ng/L),and caffeine(3113 ng/L))reached mg/L *** overall treatment efficiencies of the Jincheng and Taihu WWTPs with respect to these pharmaceuticals and perfluorinated chemicals were poor;half of the compounds were less than 50%*** compounds(sulfamethoxazole,erythromycin-H2O,clarithromycin,ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin)with risk quotient(RQ)values>1 in the effluent should be further investigated to understand their effects on the aquatic *** and advanced treatment units are found necessary to provide high-quality recycled water and sustainable water resources.

背景与目的:程序性死亡蛋白1(programmed death protein 1,PD-l)和它的配体(programmed death-ligand1,PD-L1)在肿瘤免疫中发挥重要作用。本研究旨在探究PD-L1蛋白在胃癌组织中的表达和对胃癌患者预后的预测作用,以及PD-L1表达与肿瘤浸润淋巴细胞(tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte,TIL)浸润的相关性。方法:回顾性分析了2007年9月至2010年2月在复旦大学附属肿瘤医院接受胃癌切除手术的患者444例。所有病人术前未接受抗肿瘤治疗。中位随访时间为61.2个月。切除后新鲜肿瘤组织经福尔马林固定、石蜡包埋后切片,采用免疫组化的方法检测切片中PD-L1蛋白的表达情况,≥5%的肿瘤细胞染色评分≥1分定义为阳性。使用卡方分析PD-L1表达、TIL与临床病理因素之间的相关性,非零相关检验分析TIL与PD-L1蛋白表达的相关性。Kaplan-Meier方法绘制生存曲线,log-rank进行检验。单因素生存分析中P<0.05者进入Cox比例风险回归模型。双侧检验P值<0.05认为差异具有统计学意义。结果:在398例可评价的胃癌患者中,PD-L1的阳性率为14.3%。PD-L1蛋白表达阳性和无神经浸润相关(P=0.037)。TIL数目和浸润程度较浅(P=0.001)、临床分期较早相关(P=0.035)。PD-L1表达阳性和TIL数目较高相关(P=0.0018)。PD-L1表达与DFS、OS无显著相关。Cox比例风险回归模型显示TIL高浸润(3分)相比,中等程度浸润(2分,DFS,HR 3.439,95%CI,1.056-11.198,P=0.040;OS,HR 4.486,95%CI 1.075-18.276,P=0.040),低程度浸润(1分,DFS,HR 3.280,95%CI 1.033-10.415,P=0.044;OS,HR 4.447 95%CI 1.088-18.169,P=0.038)、无浸润(0分,DFS,HR 4.454,95%CI 1.344-14.763,P=0.015;OS,HR 6.349,95%CI 1.491-27.031,P=0.012)依次具有更高的预后不良风险。结论:PD-L1蛋白表达不能预测胃癌病人的预后,但是与TIL浸润程度呈显著正相关。TIL浸润程度较高是胃癌病人预后良好的独立预测因子。本研究为在选择临床应用PD-L1的抑制剂的人群提供了参考和依据。

Aim: To evaluate the predictability of toxicity analyzing the dose-volume histograms (DVHs) and to verify the effectiveness of preventive measures limiting side toxicity considering the evolution of the radiation techniques for prostate cancer treatment. Materials and Methods: 208 patients with localized prostate cancer were treated with exclusive radiotherapy until 73.8 Gy (group A) or 79.2 Gy (group B) with the dose escalation technique. Preventive measures to minimize the side effects were recommended in group B. Results: The assessment of genitourinary toxicity was similar while gastrointestinal toxicity was better in group B. Valuating the treatment plans, we found that most of the patients developing toxicity had “borderline” DVHs. Conclusion: Our analysis led to the establishment of a protocol for the management of patients with “border-line” DVH.

Background & Aims: Breastfeeding improves glucose tolerance in the early postpartum period of women with prior gestational diabetes GDM, but it is unclear whether future risk of metabolic alterations, like type 2 diabetes, is reduced. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lactation, three years after pregnancy, on glucose and lipid metabolism in women with prior gestational diabetes. Materials & Methods: A population of women with prior gestational diabetes (Carpenter and Coustan Criteria) was evaluated with comparison of results for “lactating” [BF] versus “nonlactating women” [non BF]. Breast feeding was defined [BF] if lasting? 4 weeks. In each woman a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed to analyze the glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity/resistance and b-cell function. Fasting serum was used to study their lipid profile (total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein [LDL] cholesterol, and triglycerides), apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein A1, homocysteine, fibrinogen, hsCRP, uric acid, microalbuminuria. Statistics: Paired and Un-paired t-test, Mann-Whitney and?χ2?tests were used, as appropriate. Results: A total of 81 women were evaluated (62 [BF] and 19 [non BF]). Maternal age (37.1?±?4.6 vs 37.4?±?4.9 years), body mass index (26.3?±?5.6 vs 26.4?±?5.3 kg/m2), parity (1.9?±?0.8 vs 1.7?±?0.8) and length of follow-up (32.2?±?20.2 vs 32.1±?20,0) were not different between the two groups. No effect was visible on glucose tolerance, HOMA-IR and other b-cell function indexes as well as hs-CRP (not significantly lower in non BF), uric acid, total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol. Levels of significance were only reached for “HOMA-IS” [BF] 1.0?±?0.7 vs [non BF] 0.6?±?0.4, p = 0.04) and triglycerides [BF] 83.8?±46.7 vs [non BF] 123.2?±?94.0 mg/dl, p = 0.02).
