AIM： To compare the efficacy and safety of five days apostrophe therapy of mebendazole （MBZ） versus quinacrine （QC） on human giardiasis in children.MeTHODS： A clinical trial was carried out in paediatric patients （aged 5-15 years） with confirmed symptomatic G. duodenalis mono-infection. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either MBZ [200 mg taken three times per day GRID）（n = 61）] or QC [2 mg/kg bodyweight tid （n = 61）], both for five days. Follow-up faecal samples were obtained at 3, 5 and 7 d after the end of the treatment.ReSULTS： Although the frequency of cure was higher for QC （83.6%） than for MBZ （78.7%）, the difference was not statistically significant （P 〉 0.05）. Adverse events were reported more in the QC group （P 〈 0.05）, all of them transient and self-limiting.CONCLUSION： Despite final cure rates ocurring lower than expected, the overall results of this study reconfirmed the efficacy of MBZ in giardiasis and also indicate that, although comparable to QC, at least in this setting the 5 d course of MBZ did not appear to improve the cure rates in this intestinal parasitic infection.

One of the functions of the immune system is to recognize and destroy abnormal or infected cells to maintain homeostasis. This is accomplished by cytotoxic lymphocytes. Cytotoxicity is a highly organized multifactor process. Here, we reviewed the apoptosis pathways induced by the two main cytotoxic lymphocyte subsets, natural killer （NK） cells and CD8^＋T cells. In base to recent experimental evidence, we reviewed NK receptors involved in recognition of target-cell, as well as lytic molecules such as perforin, granzymes-A and -B, and granulysin. In addition, we reviewed the Fas-FasL intercellular linkage mediated pathway, and briefly the cross-linking of tumor necrosis factor （TNF） and TNF receptor pathway. We discussed three models of possible molecular interaction between lytic molecules from effector cytotoxic cells and target-cell membrane to induction of apoptosis. Cellular ＆ Molecular Immunology.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is among the most prevalent and deadly neoplasms worldwide. According to GLOBOCAN predictions, its incidence will increase from 1.15 million CRC cases in 2020 to 1.92 million cases in 2040. Therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in CRC development is necessary to improve strategies focused on reducing the incidence, prevalence,and mortality of this oncological pathology. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are the main strategies for treating CRC. The conventional chemotherapeutic agent utilized throughout the last four decades is 5-fluorouracil, notwithstanding its low efficiency as a single therapy. In contrast, combining 5-fluorouracil therapy with leucovorin and oxaliplatin or irinotecan increases its efficiency. However, these treatments have limited and temporary solutions and aggressive side effects. Additionally, most patients treated with these regimens develop drug resistance, which leads to disease progression. The immune response is considered a hallmark of cancer;thus, the use of new strategies and methodologies involving immune molecules, cells, and transcription factors has been suggested for CRC patients diagnosed in stages Ⅲ and Ⅳ. Despite the critical advances in immunotherapy, the development and impact of immune checkpoint inhibitors on CRC is still under investigation because less than 25% of CRC patients display an increased 5-year survival. The causes of CRC are diverse and include modifiable environmental factors(smoking, diet, obesity, and alcoholism), individual genetic mutations, and inflammation-associated bowel diseases. Due to these diverse causes, the solutions likely cannot be generalized. Interestingly, new strategies, such as single-cell multiomics, proteomics, genomics, flow cytometry, and massive sequencing for tumor microenvironment analysis, are beginning to clarify the way forward. In this work,we performed extensive first-principles simulations of high-harmonic generation in the topological Diract semimetal Na_(3)Bi using a first-principles time-dependent density functional theory framework,focusing on the effect of spin-orbit coupling(SOC)on the harmonic *** also derived an analytical model describing the microscopic mechanism of strong-field dynamics in presence of spin-orbit coupling,starting from a locally U(1)×SU(2)gauge-invariant *** results reveal that SOC:(i)affects the strong-field excitation of carriers to the conduction bands by modifying the bandstructure of Na_(3)Bi,(ii)makes each spin channel reacts differently to the driven laser by modifying the electron velocity(iii)changes the emission timing of the emitted ***,we show that the SOC affects the harmonic emission by directly coupling the charge current to the spin currents,paving the way to the high-harmonic spectroscopy of spin currents in solids.

Harnessing the enhanced light-matter coupling and quantum vacuum fluctuations resulting from mode volume compression in optical cavities is a promising route towards functionalizing quantum materials and realizing exotic states of ***,we extend cavity quantum electrodynamical materials engineering to correlated magnetic systems,by demonstrating that a Fabry-Pérot cavity can be used to control the magnetic state of the proximate quantum spin liquidα-RuCl_(3).Depending on specific cavity properties such as the mode frequency,photon occupation,and strength of the light-matter coupling,any of the magnetic phases supported by the extended Kitaev model can be *** particular,in the THz regime,we show that the cavity vacuum fluctuations alone are sufficient to bringα-RuCl_(3) from a zigzag antiferromagnetic to a ferromagnetic *** external pumping of the cavity in the few photon limit,it is further possible to push the system into the antiferromagnetic Kitaev quantum spin liquid state.
