Background:COVID-19 vaccines that trigger a strong secretory antibody response in breast milk may achieve effective passive protection of vulnerable newborns and breastfed infants of immunized mothers.The aim of this work was to investigate the presence of SARS-CoV-2 spike RBD-specific IgA and IgG antibodies in breast milk,5 and 9 weeks after vaccination with 3 doses of the protein subunit vaccine Abdala,compared to those found in breast milk from COVID-19-recovered women,collected at least 40 days after the infection.Methods:SARS-CoV-2 spike RBD-specific IgA and IgG antibodies were semi-quantified by indirect ELISA,using a homemade standard generated by pooling twenty breast milk samples with high absorbance values according to preliminary data.The validity of the standard curves was proved following the European Medicines Agency Guideline.Two breast milk samples from 2 unvaccinated women who had not been infected with COVID-19 were included as negative controls.Potentially neutralizing antibodies was assessed by a SARS-CoV-2 surrogate virus neutralization test.Results:High levels of anti-RBD IgA antibodies were detected in breast milk samples 9 weeks after vaccination and anti-RBD IgG antibodies rise from the fifth to the ninth week.In the post-COVID-19 time that was evaluated,the IgG-type response was notably higher compared to both post-vaccination periods.Neutralizing antibody titers were similar in breast milk from vaccinated and COVID-19 recovered women.Conclusions:This is the first report about the immune response in breast milk after the administration of a COVID-19 protein subunit vaccine,which could provide analogous protection to that conferred by SARS-CoV-2 infection.This implies a potential passive immunity that breastfed infants receive from their mothers vaccinated with Abdala.

Intermodal four-wave mixing(FWM)processes have recently attracted significant interest for all-optical signal processing applications thanks to the possibility to control the propagation properties of waves exciting distinct spatial modes of the same waveguide.This allows,in principle,to place signals in different spectral regions and satisfy the phase matching condition over considerably larger bandwidths compared to intramodal processes.However,the demonstrations reported so far have shown a limited bandwidth and suffered from the lack of on-chip components designed for broadband manipulation of different modes.We demonstrate here a silicon-rich silicon nitride wavelength converter based on Bragg scattering intermodal FWM,which integrates mode conversion,multiplexing and de-multiplexing functionalities on-chip.The system enables wavelength conversion between pump waves and a signal located in different telecommunication bands(separated by 60 nm)with a 3 dB bandwidth exceeding 70 nm,which represents,to our knowledge,the widest bandwidth ever achieved in an intermodal FWM-based system.

With increasing life expectancy， neurodegenerative diseases have become one of the leading causes of ill-health in the elderly. Preventive strategies include following healthy diets， such as the Mediterranean diet， which is particularly rich in polyphenols， bioactive compounds with neuroprotective properties. The aim of this study was to assess the association of microbial phenolic metabolites (MPM) with cognition. This cross-sectional analysis was performed with 200 participants of the PREDIMED trial (Barcelona-Clinic recruitment center). A novel method based on liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was used to identify urinary MPM (protocatechuic acid， enterodiol glucuronide， enterolactone glucuronide， urolithin B glucuronide， and vanillic acid glucuronide)， and cognitive function was evaluated with neuropsychological tests. Multivariable-adjusted ordinary least squares regression was used to assess the associations between cognitive function and MPM， and a score was calculated as the weighted sum of MPM. A higher MPM score was associated with better frontal lobe function. Among individual metabolites， vanillic acid glucuronide was correlated with frontal cognitive performance. Participants with higher concentrations of vanillic acid glucuronide and urolithin B glucuronide obtained better scores in the Color Trail Test part 2. A higher score for urinary multi-MPM was associated with better frontal cognitive performance in an older Mediterranean population.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the sperm viability of semen infected with PRRSV viral particles, observing the effect of the Virus on the motility of boar sperm. The work was carried out at the FMVZ-BUAP Genetics and Reproduction Laboratory. 5 stallions were used. Each sample contained 1 × 106 sperm, the PRRS virus strain was ATCC-VR-2332 (0, 102, 104 and 106 copies of RNA/mL in triplicate), it was observed daily at the CASA;Hamilton Thorne®. Cells with MT (P 2 and 10X6 (P 2) 162.81 ± 10.65 and (106) 177.12 ± 5.77 vs 193.04 ± 4.62 of control. This indicates that altering these parameters would be related to fertility and the PRRS virus affects the LCV. Regarding the VSL, it was observed that the sperm infected with viruses 102, 104 and 106 of 48.00 ± 3.38, 49.88 ± 1.83 and 50.55 ± 2.24 Vs. 56.66 ± 1.68 of control respectively, the control would have greater possibilities of fertilizing the oocyte. In this study, it was found (P ≤ 0.01) in the VAP with 102 of 77.26 ± 5.16, 104 with 83.35 ± 2.41 and 106 with 81.29 ± 3.14 vs the control with 90.56 ± 2.07. Regarding the ALH there is (P 4 with 8.70 ± .26 and 106 with 9.64 ± 0.23 vs control 8.50 ± 0.27. Neurogenesis is a complex process involving the orchestration of many transcription factors and other proteins.Fine regulation of their activities is crucial for proper progression of neurogenesis.A few decades ago,covalent attachment of Small Ubiquitin-like MOdifier(SUMO)to other proteins was revealed as a major regulator of protein activities,constituting an essential posttranslational modification system in vertebrates.Since then,hundreds of proteins have been shown to be targets of SUMO,which is implicated in controlling many relevant processes in eukaryotic cells.These include the development and function of the nervous system,with SUMO tightly linked to synapsis and to neurodegenerative diseases(Yau et al.,2020).The SUMO protease SENP7 has been involved in neurogenesis(Juárez-Vicente et al.,2016),while sumoylation of BRAF35,a subunit of the LSD1 histone demethylase complex,assures the undifferentiated state of neural progenitors(Ceballos-Chávez et al.,2012).In addition,increased sumoylation in mouse brain-derived neural stem cells results in enhanced neuronal differentiation(Bernstock et al.,2019).

While theory suggests that at conception the sex ratio should be balanced(1:1),this can be variable across space and time in wild populations.Currently,studies of the environmental factors that regulate adult sex ratio(ASR)in species with different life history traits are scarce.Using capture–recapture over a year,we analyzed the influence of habitat type(forest and nonforest)and season(rainy and dry)on variation in ASR,male aggregation and the trajectory movement of 2 dung beetle species with different life history traits:Deltochilum mexicanum(a hornless roller species)and Dichotomius satanas(a tunneler species with horns on its head and thorax).We found opposite tendencies.The D.mexicanum population tends to be female-biased,but the population of D.satanas tends to be predominantly male,and observed values were not related to habitat type or season.However,the 95%confidence intervals estimated were highly variable between seasons depending on habitat.On examining the monthly variation in ASR for both habitats,we found that it depends on the species.In addition,male aggregation differed between species depending on habitat type and season,and species movement patterns were closely related to their habitat preferences.Based on our results,we argue that comparative population studies of species with different life history traits are necessary to understand the variation in demographic parameters as well as its ecological and evolutionary implications in the face of spatial and climatic environmental variation.

Current approaches for simulating the energy performance of buildings on a large scale are limited by numerous assumptions and simplifications,which can lead to inaccurate estimations.While new tools and procedures are emerging to improve accuracy,there remains a need for more user-friendly methods.This study proposes a new tool based on online maps to create the geometry of districts in a simple way.The tool also enables an automatic evaluation of all buildings through dynamic hourly simulations,using a building simulation software and allowing to consider different weather conditions.To illustrate the procedure,a district at risk of energy poverty in Seville(Spain)is modeled,where hourly temperature data for a whole year are available to demonstrate the need for building improvements.The tool is used to evaluate the energy demands of the district under several retrofitting alternatives,and free-floating simulations are also performed to evaluate the improvement of thermal comfort without air-conditioning systems.The aim is not to discuss the actual values for this particular case,but rather to identify the correct direction for large-scale studies,so as to make them more easily conducted.Overall,it may be concluded that the results provided by comprehensive tools,such as the one proposed in this study,enable easy yet accurate evaluations of buildings on a large scale with significant time savings,as well as the identification of locations where retrofitting interventions would have the greatest impact.

The management of water consumption in healthcare centres can have positive impacts on both the environmental performance and profitability of health systems.Computational tools assist in the decision-making process of managing the operation and maintenance of healthcare centres.This research aimed to integrate the empirical knowledge of experts in Healthcare Engineering and the historical data from 66 healthcare centres in a Fuzzy Cognitive Map.The outputs of the predictive model included water consumption,water cost,and CO_(2) emissions in healthcare facilities,along with eleven variables to discover the causes and consequences of water consumption in healthcare centres.A healthcare centre with about 12350 users,located in a city that experiences an average of 1100 heating degree days,whose facilities be moderately energy-efficient contributing over 50%with renewable energies is expected to consume 8.4 dam^(3) of water with 32.1 k€of cost,and contribute realising 30.8 ton CO_(2)eq emissions.The use of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps for prediction can provide a high level of effectiveness in identifying the factors that contribute to water consumption and in designing key performance indicators to manage the environmental performance of healthcare buildings.This tool is extremely effective in enhancing the performance of the management division of health systems.
