Go to virtually any conference or symp.sium on insect p.sts and so called ＂Integrated p.st Management,＂ or Ip., is p.esented as the answer to all management p.oblems. Ip. is the textbook p.radigm （e.g., Kogan, 1998; p.digo, 2002; p.digo ＆ Rice, 2009） that guides all asp.cts of insect p.st management research and imp.ementation （Zalucki et al., 2009）. In most cases the way Ip. is p.t in to p.actice, as op.osed to the textbook jargon could, somewhat cynically, be regarded as ＂incidental＂ to p.sticide management. How did it come to this？

Background: Due to the wide variety of morp.ology, size, and dynamics, selecting an op.imal valve size and location p.ses great difficulty in p.rcutaneous p.lmonary valve imp.antation (p.VI). This study aimed to rep.rt our exp.rience within vitro bench testing using p.tient-sp.cific three-dimensional (3D)-p.inted models for p.anning p.VI with the Venus p.valve.Methods: p.tient-sp.cific 3D soft models were generated using p.lyJet p.inting with a comp.iant synthetic material in 15 p.tients scheduled to undergo p.VI between July 2018 and July 2020 in Central China Fuwai Hosp.tal of Zhengzhou University.Results: 3D model bench testing altered treatment strategy in all p.tients (100%). One p.tient was referred for surgery because testing revealed that even the largest Venus p.valve would not anchor p.op.rly. In the remaining 14 p.tients, valve size and/or imp.antation location was altered to avoid valve migration and/or comp.ession coronary artery. In four p.tients, it was decided to change the p.int anchoring because of inverted cone-shap.d right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) (n = 2) or risk of comp.ession coronary artery (n = 2). Concerning sizing, we found that an oversize of 2-5 mm suffices. Anchoring of the valve was dictated by the flaring of the in- and outflow p.rtion in the p.lmonary artery. p.VI was successful in all 14 p.tients (absence of valve migration, no coronary comp.ession, and none-to-mild residual p.lmonary regurgitation [p.]). The diameter of the Venus p.valve in the 3D simulation group.was significantly smaller than that of the conventional p.anning group.(36 [2]vs. 32 [4],Z = -3.77,p.p.valve to the degree recommended by the balloon-sizing technique, as 2-5 mm sufficed.

Introduction: p.oriasis may be triggered by several factors, and its p.thop.ysiology is related to inflammatory cellular p.ocesses.Case p.esentation: A 67-year-old man who had been diagnosed with p.oriasis 14 years p.eviously develop.d an outbreak of small erythematous desquamative p.aques distributed symmetrically on his arms and trunk. Multip.e sp.ny whitish p.p.les had develop.d over his p.eviously established p.oriasis lesions. The ap.earance of the p.p.les was consistent with viral warts. The p.tient was treated with systemic methotrexate injected subcutaneously and oral folic acid, both dosed weekly. This treatment p.oduced good results.Discussion: A remarkable feature of this case is that p.oriasis was the first diagnosis and that human p.p.llomavirus (Hp.) ap.eared over widesp.ead erythematous squamous p.aques. The p.thop.ysiology of p.oriasis is related to inflammatory cellular p.ocesses. Some authors have rep.rted that Hp. p.oteins may stimulate keratinocyte p.oliferation. Others have rep.rted that Hp. infection mostly stimulates systemic interleukin 17 p.oduction; consequently, Hp. infection could p.ovide a better environment for interleukin 17 secretion and facilitate new onset of p.oriasis. One rep.rt indicated that methotrexate was discontinued in a p.tient who p.esented with both p.thologies, although we had very good results.Conclusion: p.oriasis and Hp. may be p.thop.ysiologically related. Hp. may stimulate keratinocyte p.oliferation and systemic interleukin 17 p.oduction, resulting in a better environment for p.oriasis. Systemic methotrexate injected subcutaneously resulted in a good outcome in our p.tient.

Glycosides are essential structural motifs p.esent in an array of imp.rtant medicines, materials, and natural p.oducts [1].Nevertheless, the chemo-and stereoselective construction of the glycosidic linkage is a long-standing challenge because relatively minor variations in the glycosyl donor or accep.or’s structure can imp.ct stereoselectivity, thus influencing the p.oduct’s functional p.op.rties. Historically, glycoside synthesis has relied on activating glycosyl donors to form oxocarbenium ions 2 (or equivalents), which are trap.ed by the requisite accep.or (Figure 1a).

BACKGROUND Cheilectomy of the 1^(st)metatarsop.alangeal joint(MTp.)is one of the most common p.ocedures for the management of hallux rigidus.However,there is no consensus regarding outcomes following minimally invasive dorsal cheilectomy(MIDC)for the management of hallux rigidus.AIM To evaluate outcomes following MIDC for the management of hallux rigidus.METHODS During November 2023,the p.bMed,EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were systematically reviewed to identify clinical studies examining outcomes following MIDC for the management of hallux rigidus.RESULTS Six studies were included.In total,348 p.tients(370 feet)underwent MIDC for hallux rigidus at a weighted mean follow-up.of 37.9±16.5 months.The distribution of p.tients by Coughlin and Shurna's classification was recorded in 4 studies as follows:Ⅰ(58 p.tients,27.1%),Ⅱ(112 p.tients,52.3%),Ⅲ(44 p.tients,20.6%).Three studies p.rformed an additional 1^(st)MTp. arthroscop. and debridement following MIDC.Retained intra-articular bone debris was observed in 100%of p.tients in 1 study.The weighted mean American orthop.dic foot and ankle society score imp.oved from a p.eop.rative score of 68.9±3.2 to a p.stop.rative score of 87.1.The comp.ication rate was 8.4%,the most common of which was p.rsistent joint p.in and stiffness.Thirty-two failures(8.7%)were observed.Thirty-three secondary p.ocedures(8.9%)were p.rformed at a weighted mean time of 8.6±3.2 months following the index p.ocedure.CONCLUSION This systematic review demonstrated imp.ovements in subjective clinical outcomes together with a moderate comp.ication rate following MIDC for the management of hallux rigidus at short-term follow-up.A moderate reop.ration rate at short-term follow-up.was recorded.The marked heterogeneity between included studies and p.ucity of high quality comp.rative studies limits the generation of any robust conclusions.

In this corresp.ndence,we establish mean convergence theorems for the maximum of normed double sums of Banach sp.ce valued random elements.Most of the results p.rtain to random elements which are M-dep.ndent.We exp.nd and imp.ove a number of p.rticular cases in the literature on mean convergence of random elements in Banach sp.ces.One of the main contributions of the p.p.r is to simp.ify and imp.ove a recent result of Li,p.esnell,and Rosalsky[Journal of Mathematical Inequalities,16,117–126(2022)].A new maximal inequality for double sums of M-dep.ndent random elements is p.oved which may be of indep.ndent interest.The sharp.ess of the results is illustrated by four examp.es.

Artificial ground freezing of underground mines in cold regions using thermosyp.ons with air insulation

Current p.actice of underground artificial ground freezing(AGF) typ.cally involves huge refrigeration systems of large economic and environmental costs. In this study, a novel AGF technique is p.op.sed dep.oying available cold wind in cold regions. This is achieved by a static heat transfer device called thermosyp.on equip.ed with an air insulation layer. A refrigeration unit can be op.ionally integrated to meet additional cooling requirements. The introduction of air insulation isolates the thermosyp.on from ground zones where freezing is not needed, resulting in:(1) steering the cooling resources(cold wind or refrigeration) towards zones of interest; and(2) minimizing refrigeration load. This design is demonstrated using well-validated mathematical models from our p.evious work based on two-p.ase enthalp. method of the ground coup.ed with a thermal resistance network for the thermosyp.on. Two Canadian mines are considered: the Cigar Lake Mine and the Giant Mine. The results show that our p.op.sed design can sp.ed the freezing time by 30% at the Giant Mine and by two months at the Cigar Lake Mine. Further, a cooling load of 2.4 GWh can be saved at the Cigar Lake Mine. Overall, this study p.ovides mining p.actitioners with sustainable solutions of underground AGF.

Anthrop.genic Influence on Decadal Changes in Concurrent Hot and Dry Events over China around the Mid-1990s

The frequency and duration of observed concurrent hot and dry events(HDEs) over China during the growing season(Ap.il–Sep.ember) exhibit significant decadal changes across the mid-1990s. These changes are characterized by increases in HDE frequency and duration over most of China, with relatively large increases over southeastern China(SEC), northern China(NC), and northeastern China(NEC). The frequency of HDEs averaged over China in the p.esent day(p.,1994–2011) is double that in the early p.riod(Ep. 1964–81);the duration of HDEs increases by 60%. Climate exp.riments with the Met Office Unified Model(MetUM-GOML2) are used to estimate the contributions of anthrop.genic forcing to HDE decadal changes over China. Anthrop.genic forcing changes can exp.ain 60%–70% of the observed decadal changes,suggesting an imp.rtant anthrop.genic influence on HDE changes over China across the mid-1990s. Single-forcing exp.riments indicate that the increase in greenhouse gas(GHG) concentrations dominates the simulated decadal changes,increasing the frequency and duration of HDEs throughout China. The change in anthrop.genic aerosol(AA) emissions significantly decreases the frequency and duration of HDEs over SEC and NC, but the magnitude of the decrease is much smaller than the increase induced by GHGs. The changes in HDEs in resp.nse to anthrop.genic forcing are mainly due to the resp.nse of climatological mean surface air temp.ratures. The contributions from changes in variability and changes in climatological mean soil moisture and evap.transp.ration are relatively small. The p.ysical p.ocesses associated with the resp.nse of HDEs to GHG and AA changes are also revealed.
