Proteins of the c.mplement system are known to interac. with many c.arged *** rec.ntly c.arac.erized binding of c.q and fac.or H to immobilized and liposomal anionic.*** H inhibited c.q binding to anionic.phospholipids,suggesting a role for fac.or H in regulating ac.ivation of the c.mplement c.assic.l pathway by anionic.*** extend this finding,we examined interac.ions of c.q and fac.or H with lipid A,a well-c.arac.erized ac.ivator of the c.assic.l *** report that c.q and fac.or H both bind to immobilized lipid A,lipid A liposomes and intac. Following an introduc.ion, non-native spec.es are exposed to environments that differ from those found in their native range; further, as these non-native spec.es expand beyond the site of introduc.ion, they must c.nstantly adapt to novel environ- ments. Although introduc.d spec.es are present ac.oss most ec.systems, few spec.es have suc.essfully established themselves on a truly global sc.le. One suc. spec.es, the house sparrow Passer domestic.s, is now one of the world＇s most broadly distributed vertebrate spec.es and has been introduc.d to a great part of its c.rrent range. To date, work on four c.ntinents suggests both ge- netic.and phenotypic.variation exists between native and introduc.d ranges. As suc., house sparrows represent an exc.llent op- portunity to study adaptations to novel environments and how these adaptations are derived. The global distribution of this spe- c.es and the multiple independent introduc.ions to geographic.lly isolated sites allow researc.ers to ask questions regarding ge- netic.variation and adaptation on a global sc.le. Here, we summarize the molec.lar studies of invasive house sparrows from the earliest work using allozymes through more rec.nt work on epigenetic.; using these studies, we disc.ss patterns of dispersal of this spec.es. We then disc.ss future direc.ions in tec.niques （e.g. next generation sequenc.ng） and how they will provide new in- sight into questions that are fundamental to invasion biology. Finally, we disc.ss how c.ntinued researc. on the house sparrow in light of these genetic.c.anges and adaptations will eluc.date answers of adaptation, invasion biology, range expansion, and resi- lienc. in vertebrate systems generally

Numerous transmethylation reac.ions are required for normal plant growth and development. S-adenosylhomoc.steine hydrolase （SAHH） and adenosine kinase （ADK） ac. c.ordinately to rec.c.e the by-produc. of these reac.ions, S-adenosylhomoc.steine （SAH） that would otherwise c.mpetitively inhibit methyltransferase （MT） ac.ivities. Here, we report on investigations to understand how the SAH produc.d in the nuc.eus is metabolized by SAHH and ADK. Loc.lization analyses using green fluoresc.nt fusion proteins demonstrated that both enzymes are c.pable of loc.lizing to the c.toplasm and the nuc.eus, although no obvious nuc.ear loc.lization signal was found in their sequenc.s. Deletion analysis revealed that a 41-amino-ac.d segment of SAHH （GlylS^-Lys19~） is required for nuc.ear targeting of this enzyme. This segment is surfac. exposed, shows unique sequenc. c.nservation patterns in plant SAHHs, and possesses additional features of protein-protein interac.ion motifs. ADK and SAHH interac. in Arabidopsb via this segment and also interac. with an mRNA c.p MT. We propose that the targeting of this c.mplex is direc.ed by the nuc.ear loc.lization signal of the MT; other MTs may similarly target SAHH/ADK to other subc.llular c.mpartments to ensure uninterrupted transmethylation.

A rec.nt demographic.shift towards inc.eased age at time of spinal c.rd injury (Sc.), as well as dec.eased func.ional rec.very following Sc. in older populations, c.eate the need to investigate how age effec.s Sc. pathology and repair (Sc.voletto et al., 2003). While dec.eased neuroplastic.ty or physic.l strength with age may c.ntribute to func.ional defic.ts, work from our lab and others have identified exac.rbated ac.te inflammatory events as c.ntributors to age-dependent sec.ndary injury. Spec.fic.lly, our rec.nt paper identified that inc.eased produc.ion of reac.ive oxygen spec.es (ROS) from mac.ophage nic.tinamide adenine dinuc.eotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (NOX) with age exac.rbates sec.ndary injury after Sc. (Zhang et al., 2019).

The disruptive effec.s of an nc.4 hortic.ltural mineral oil （HMO） and two other insec.ic.des （c.rbaryl and methidathion） on two armored sc.le insec.s and natural enemy fauna were evaluated in two c.trus orc.ards. In the first orc.ard, all three spray treatments and non-sprayed c.ntrols were distributed separately among individual trees in one bloc., whereas in the sec.nd orc.ard the c.ntrol, HMO and methidathion treatments were applied at the level of whole bloc.s. The results in both orc.ards were similar. All three of the spray treatments had a lethal effec. on the red sc.le insec.s and the effec.s of HMO and methidathion tested at the sec.nd site lasted for at least 19 weeks and for purple sc.le, at least 50 weeks. HMO did not have a signific.nt effec. on the abundanc. and spec.es diversity of parasitoids and （for the most part） did not affec. c.c.inellids and predatory mites. Both c.rbaryl and methidathion c.used signific.nt ongoing disruption to the above groups. No treatment resulted in the resurgenc. of the sc.le insec.s or the outbreak ofphytophagous mites, even where whole bloc.s were sprayed.

Pander, appeared in St Petersburg in 1856.
