The benue Trough basin (bTb) of Nigeria is geologically and geo-morphologically subdivided into upper,middle, and lower segments. The bTb is the subject of geological research due to its rich coal depositsthat have the potential for oil and gas. The purpose of the present study is to examine the origins,depositional environments, and thermal history of the selected coals and the processes that influencetheir quality. Coal samples from different open cast coal mines in the middle bTb were examined usingproximate and ultimate, x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray fluorescence (XRf), laser ablation induced coupledplasma (LA-ICPMS), and petrographical analyses. The coal samples contained mainly quartz, kaolinite,and organic carbon. The XRD spectra peaks revealed the triclinic and monoclinic structure of kaolin. TheSiO2/Al2O3 ratios confirmed the dominance of quartz and kaolinite. The Ni/Co versus V/Cr, Cu/Zn, and V/Mo values in the studied coals suggest oxic depositional environments, whereas the V/(Ni þ V) and V/(V þ Cr) values indicate oxic to suboxic conditions. The Ce/Ce* values are slightly below 1, which indicates a suboxic depositional environment. Maceral texture is indicative of transformations from subbituminous to high volatile C or b bituminous coal. The maceral components and mineral matter(10%) of the studied coals imply deposition in the planar margin mire, and a river system of planarmargin mire environments, respectively. The high gelification index (GI) and tissue preservation index(TPI) values indicate peat accumulation developed within a wet forest swamp. The ternary diagram ofthe maceral component suggests deposition in a wet moor environment with intermittent moderate tohigh flooding episodes. The studied coals are sub-hydrous vitrinite inferring hydrogen-poor and thermally immature characteristics. Overweight and obesity in young adults with patellofemoral pain:Impact on functional capacity and strength

Purpose:This study aimed to(a)investigate the proportion of overweight/obesity in a cohort of young adults with patellofemoral pain(PfP)and(b)explore the association of body mass index(bMI),body fat,and lean mass with functional capacity and hip and knee strength in people with ***:We included a mixed-sex sample of young adults(18-35 years old)with PfP(n=100).Measurements for bMI,percentage of body fat,and lean mass(assessed by bioelectrical impedance)were *** capacity was assessed by the Anterior Knee Pain Scale,plank test,and single-leg hop *** of the knee extensors,knee flexors,and hip abductors was evaluated isometrically using an isokinetic *** proportion of overweight/obesity was calculated based on *** association between bMI,body fat,and lean mass and functional capacity and strength was investigated using partial correlations,followed by hierarchical regression analysis,adjusted for covariates(sex,bilateral pain,and current pain level).Results:A total of 38%of our cohort had their bMI categorized as overweight/*** bMI was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.06-0.12,pflexion strength only(ΔR^(2)=0.04,p=0.030).Higher body fat was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.05-0.15,p≤0.015)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.15-0.23,pfunctional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.04-0.13,p≤0.032)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.29-0.31,pbMI,body fat,and lean mass should be considered in the assessment and management of young people with PfP because it may be detrimental to function and strength.

Mesocosm Hatcheries Using Semi-intensive Methodologies and Species Diversification in Aquaculture

Mesocosm hatcheries using semi-intensive culture methodologies are characterized by large tanks （40 m3） for fish larvae production at low densities （2-8 larvae/L）, with live prey production within the tank supplemented by exogenous sources of feed. Due to the high biological quality of larvae produced and low level of technological input, these methodologies are regarded as an interesting option to meet the increasing fry demand from the aquaculture industry. This study aimed to describe the experience at Centro de Maricultura da Calheta, Madeira Island, Portugal, with the establishment of a mesocosm hatchery for the production of marine fish larvae. Production trials were initiated with gilthead seabream Sparus aurata. This larval species presented faster growth in total body length （TL） per day （TL = 3.7516e~ ~293day, R2 = 0.9404）, higher survival rate （SR = 31.9%） and comparable swimbladder inflation rates （Sb = 90%） to those of larvae reared with intensive methodologies. High larval performance was obtained with two candidate species for aquaculture： the red porgy Pagruspagrus （TL = 3.212e~~39day, R2 = 0.995; SR = 15.3%; Sb = 95.7%） and the white seabream Diplodus sargus （TL = 3.6355e~~413day, R2= 0.9824; SR = 25%; Sb --- 100%）. Testing ofa 110 m3 mesocosm rearing tank with white seabream larvae revealed limitations associated to larger tanks namely, the amount and quality of live feed required daily. first trials with striped jack （Pseudocararoc dentex） larvae resulted in low larval survival （0.04%）, but the use of a white tank avoided culture management constraints related to positive phototropism. The present results suggest that a mesocosm using semi-intensive methodologies may contribute to species diversification and consequently, to the sustainable development of aquaculture.

An unsettling explanation for the failure of skatole-baited ovitraps to capture Culex mosquitoes

Culex mosquitoes are primarily found in temperate and tropical regions worldwide where they play a crucial role as main vectors of filarial worms and arboviruses. In Recife, a northeast city in brazil, high densities of Culex quinquefasciatus are often found in association with human populated areas. In marked contrast to another part of the city, field tests conducted in the neighborhood of Sitio dos Pintos showed that trapping of mosquitoes in skatole-baited ovitraps did not differ significantly from captures in control (water) traps. Thus, classical and molecular taxonomic approaches were used to analyze the Culex species circulating in Sitio dos Pintos. Results obtained from both approaches agreed on the cocirculation of Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex nigripalpus in three different areas of this neighborhood. What was initially considered as an unexpected failure of this lure turned out to be a more unsettling problem, that is, the first report in Recife of Culex nigripalpus, a vector of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus and West Nile virus. Unplanned urbanization processes close to remnants of the Atlantic forest, such as observed in Sitio dos Pintos, may have contributed to the introduction of Cx. nigripalpus in urban areas.

It is common knowledge that we live in an environment which comprises ionizing radiation （X-rays, gamma rays）. These radiation in normal situations is produced by natural phenomena such as cosmic rays from different sources in Universe and the decay of radioactive elements present in the Earth planet atmosphere and crust. Ionizing radiation can also be produced by human activities such as those related to nuclear power generation and use in medicine and industry. Although ionizing radiations are part of our daily lives, few students or researchers have the opportunity to perform measurements and observations of the background radiation. To overcome this deficiency in education, we started a pilot project that propose measures and observations of environmental radiation background with students of the ITA （Technological Institute of Aeronautics, Silo Paulo）. Using compact and portable detector to observe gamma radiation like described in this work, many graduate students can participate.

Sugarcane mosaic virus(SCMV)is the main etiological agent of sugarcane mosaic disease,which affects sugarcane and other grass *** the extensive characterization of quantitative trait loci controlling resistance to SCMV in maize,the genetic basis of this trait in sugarcane is largely ***,a genome-wide association study was performed and machine learning coupled with feature selection was used for genomic prediction of resistance to SCMV in a diverse sugarcane *** single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)explained up to 29.9%of the observed phenotypic variance and a 73-SNP set predicted resistance with high accuracy,precision,recall,and f1 scores(the harmonic mean of precision and recall).both marker sets were validated in additional sugarcane genotypes,in which the SNPs explained up to 23.6%of the phenotypic variation and predicted resistance with a maximum accuracy of 69.1%.Synteny analyses suggested that the gene responsible for the majority of SCMV resistance in maize is absent in sugarcane,explaining why this major resistance source has not been identified in this ***,using sugarcane RNA-Seq data,markers associated with resistance to SCMV were annotated,and a gene coexpression network was constructed to identify the predicted biological processes involved in *** network allowed the identification of candidate resistance genes and confirmed the involvement of stress responses,photosynthesis,and the regulation of transcription and translation in resistance to *** results provide a practical marker-assisted breeding approach for sugarcane and identify target genes for future studies of SCMV resistance.

Objective: The present work aims to evaluate the impact of the activities of nursing consultations on health conditions of children served in Clínica de Enfermagem Salvando Vidas com Educa??o. Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a quantitative approach, realized from January through December 2012, at the Clínica de Enfermagem (Nursing Clinic), in the Santa Cruz County, Rio Grande do Norte’s countryside, brazil. Results: The obtained results showed a significant correlation between the type of pathology and final treatment proven by the value of p = 0.000;as for assessed 60%, more than half were discharged;the most prevalent diseases were the association between cutaneous and gastric with 11% who were discharged and, lastly, the association between gastric and respiratory with 7% discharged. Conclusion: Thus, the activities developed by the project are not restricted to the examination during the nursing consultation, since educational activities are planned from the data obtained in those consultations.

Correlation between Rainfall and Cold fronts with Gamma Ray Measurements near Ground Level in Southeastern brazil

Gamma radiation measurements integrated between 200 keV and 10.0 MeV were performed between 03/07/2017 and 05/24/2017 from a tower of 25 meters of altitude in the region of S^o Jos6 dos Campos, SP, brazil. Throughout this period, there were 9 intense and moderate rains with 11 arrivals of cold fronts coming from southern brazil. Through measurements of gamma radiation integrated in the energy range mentioned above, the presence of these meteorological parameters and their variations in the region can clearly be observed. Through a potential calibration between the measured gamma radiation intensity and the observed rainfall intensity, it is possible to monitor rains by time interval using this gamma ray detector. Another very important parameter for the region consists of monitoring the number of passages of cold fronts that interfere in the local climatology. This low-cost, easy-to-operate technique can be applied and used in any tropical and equatorial region of the earth＇s surface.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide and traumatic brain injury

Dear editor,It is with great interest that we read the article“Relationship of calcitonin gene-related peptide with disease progression and prognosis of patients with severe traumatic brain injury”(Chen et al.,2018).In this study,the authors evaluated 121 patients who were divided into mild/moderate traumatic brain injury(TbI)(n=61),severe TbI(n=35)and control(n=25)groups,and measured serum levels of calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)and serum endothelin-1(ET-1).They found that low levels of CGRP and high levels of ET-1 were associated with high mortality at 6 *** of morphological abnormalities on CT scans is very important for evaluating patients with TbI because different diagnoses are made based on different imaging findings(Maas et al.,2005).
