Particulate organic matter(POM)is an important energy source for aquatic consumers,understanding its origin and composition is essential for understanding the energetic dynamics of aquatic *** aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between POM and phytoplankton(isotopic values and chlorophyll concentration)and abiotic variables during dry and rainy *** was conducted in rivers and lagoons in the floodplain of the Upper Paraná*** found a greater difference in ^(δ13)C values of POM between sampling points than between seasons,indicating that the composition of regional sources influences the composition of POM more than dry and rainy *** addition,the concentration of chlorophyll during the dry season was positively correlated with ^(δ13)C values during that rainy ***,we found a relationship between factors limiting the growth of phytoplankton and ^(δ13)C values of POM,such as phosphate ions,indicating that variables that regulate phytoplankton growth tend to influence the composition of POM in river ***,maintaining the variables that regulate the phytoplankton community is of fundamental importance for the composition of POM,an important energy source in aquatic environments.

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Background Following the standardized nomenclature proposed by the American Clinical Neurophysiology society(ACNs),rhythmic high-amplitude delta activity with superimposed spikes(RHADs)can be reported as an extreme delta brush(EDB).The clinical implications of similar electrographic patterns being reported as RHADs versus EDB are important to *** aim to review the electrographic characteristics of RHADs,evaluate whether RHADs is seen in other neurological disorders,and identify the similar and unique characteristics between RHADs and EDB to ultimately determine the most accurate way to differentiate and report these *** believe that the differentiation of RHADs and EDB is important as there is a vast difference in the diagnostic approach and the medical management of associated underlying *** source We conducted an extensive search on MEDLINE and Pubmed utilizing various combinations of *** for“gamma polymerase and EEG”,or“RHADs”or“Alpers syndrome and EEG”or“EEG”AND“Alpers–Huttenlocher syndrome”.Results Three articles were found to be focused on the description of“RHADs”pattern in Alpers *** publication to date were found when searching for the terms“EDB”AND“children”,AND“infant”AND“adolescent”excluding“encephalitis”and“neonate”.Although RHADs and EDB appear as similar EEG patterns,meticulous analysis can differentiate *** is not exclusive to patients with Alpers–Huttenlocher syndrome and may manifest in regions beyond the posterior head *** to eye-opening and response to anesthesia can be two other elements that help in the differentiation of these *** RHADs is not exclusive to patients with AHs and may manifest in regions beyond the posterior head *** to eye-opening and response to anesthesia are features that help in the differentiation of these patterns.

The progressive deindustrialisation of many western cities since the 1980s has led to many industrial zones linked to port activities being abandoned or falling into *** such as Barcelona,Naples,Lisbon,Amsterdam,and Hamburg have port industrial complexes of high tangible and intangible heritage value that could totally or partially disappear,resulting in an irreparable loss of their scientific,architectural,social,technological,and historical *** that in mind,Adaptive Reuse(AR)of the built heritage allows the industrial memory of the ports to be preserved by turning them into new functional centres within the existing urban *** occurs in the context of the contemporary challenges of those cities,such as touristification,the circular economy and climate change,while guaranteeing the life cycle of those *** article analyses two case studies—the Nederlandsche scheepsbouw Maatschappij(NDsM)and the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij(RDM)shipyards,both in the Netherlands—in order to contribute to the knowledge of AR of Port Industrial *** are two examples of good practices in port industrial heritage interventions,where the factors behind their acclaim can be easily highlighted.A multi-scale methodology is therefore used and tailored to the case of port industrial heritage,based on analysing previous studies of the heritage in different spheres and on different scales.A relationship matrix tool is thus *** enables a comparative study to be conducted,using key variables and indicators,and cons.dering qualitative and quantitative *** provides extensive output information for each case study,which is summarised in the most favourable factors for the success of the AR of this port industrial heritage.

Little is known about the prevalent nationalities among the best-placed athletes participating in“Ironman Hawaii.”Moreover,the age at which athletes achieve their best performances remains *** present study aimed to compare the prevalent nationalities among the athletes,their respective placement among the top five,and the performance difference between the different age groups in‘Ironman Hawaii’from 2003 to 2019.A total of 30354 amateur triathletes were selected from the Obsessed Triathlete(OBsTRI)website.A“TOP 5”division filter was applied for further analysis,resulting in 1851 athletes being included in this *** the male runners,Americans participated the most in Ironman events(39%),followed by Germans(10%).Among female runners,Americans participated the most(54%),followed by Australian runners(8%).Male Americans also featured most among the top five(30%),followed by Germans(16%).Female Americans were the most prevalent among the top five(47%),followed by Australian Americans(10%).There were no significant performance differences(p>0.05)between the 25–29 and 40–44 age groups for either *** 45–49 age group presented significantly worse performance than the 35–39 age group for both sexes(ps were the most performant and frequent participants in“Ironman Hawaii.”The expected performance decline due to aging was observed after 45 years in both sexes.

Automated image systems to characterize aquatic organisms improve research and enable fast response to environmental risk situations. In November 2015, a dam in Mariana City-MG (Brazil) collapsed and led to the disposal of mud tailings from the mining process to the Doce River. The accident resulted in several casualties and incalculable damage to surrounding communities and the environment. The mud increased water turbidity, an essential condition to the functioning of the image analysis systems, and directly affected the characterization of the organisms, making it impossible to distinguish copepods in the mud, due to the blurred outline. To get a quick response evaluating environmental situations, this work aimed to develop and test different algorithms characterizing and classifying copepods by their size (length and area) using in situ images acquired by the Lightframe On-sight Keyspecies Investigation device. Field tests were carried out under different turbidity levels throughout the gradient observed in the coastal zone adjacent to the Doce River. The best algorithm reduced nearly 50% of the noise in some images when compared with manual treatment and led to 96% accuracy in measurement and counting. semi-automated devices that perform post-processing corrections are suitable for fast environmental evaluation under high turbidity scenarios.

Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(RE) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of session consisted of 50% arterial occlusion pressure during 50 min sessions of HD(intradialytic exercise).RE repetitions included concentric and eccentric lifting phases(each lasting 2 s) and were supervised by a strength and conditioning ***:several variables were associated with elevated levels of D-dimer,including higher blood glucose,citrate use,recent cardiovascular events,recent intercurrents,higher inflammatory status,catheter as vascular access,older patients(>70 years old),and HD ***,RE+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo RE+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during RE+BFR.
