Parallel droplet microfluidics for high throughput cell encapsulation and synthetic microgel generation

Cells can be microencapsulated in synthetic hydrogel microspheres(microgels)using droplet microfluidics,but microfluidic devices with a single droplet generating geometry have limited throughput,especially as microgel diameter *** we demonstrate microencapsulation of human mesenchymal stem cells(hMSCs)in small(o100μm diameter)microgels utilizing parallel droplet generators on a two-layer elastomer device,which has 600% increased throughput ***-nozzle *** of microgel diameters were compared between products of parallel ***-nozzle configurations for two square nozzle widths,35 and 100μ*** produced on parallel nozzles were equivalent to those produced on single nozzles,with substantially the same *** of hMSCs was compared for parallel nozzle devices of each *** five micrometer wide nozzle devices could be operated at twice the cell concentration of 100μm wide nozzle devices but produced more empty microgels than predicted by a Poisson *** micrometer wide nozzle devices produced microgels as predicted by a Poisson *** of microgels did not increase with the addition of cells for either nozzle *** encapsulated on 35μm wide nozzle devices had reduced viability(~70%)and a corresponding decrease in vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)secretion compared to hMSCs cultured on tissue culture(TC)*** hMSCs using 100μm wide nozzle devices mitigated loss of viability and function,as measured by VEGF secretion.

自主制造系统的研究既受益于信息物理融合系统这一新技术的推动，也响应工业实际需求的号召。目前，先进的传感器技术、数字孪生、人工智能和新型通信技术可以支持半结构化工业环境中的自主操作，可实现对生产过程的实时监控、情况识别和预测、自动和自适应（重新）规划、团队合作，以及通过学习提高性能。本文总结了实现自主工业机器人技术的主要需求，提出了实现此类系统的通用工作流程，并介绍了HUN-REN SZTAKI最近在装配、焊接、打磨、拾取和放置以及机械加工等多个应用领域的广泛实践。这些解决方案的共同点是以通用的数字孪生概念为核心。最后，本文提出实现工业自主机器人解决方案的一般建议，并讨论了未来要研究的一些开放性问题。

Mapping fractional landscape soils and vegetation components from Hyperion satellite imagery using an unsupervised machinelearning workflow

An unsupervised machine-learning workflow is proposed for estimating fractional landscape soils and vegetation components from remotely sensed hyperspectral *** workflow is applied to EO-1 Hyperion satellite imagery collected near Ibirací,Minas Gerais,*** proposed workflow includes subset feature selection,learning,and estimation *** training with landscape feature class realizations provide a hypersurface from which to estimate mixtures of soil(e.g.0.5 exceedance for pixels:75%clay-rich Nitisols,15%iron-rich Latosols,and 1%quartz-rich Arenosols)and vegetation(e.g.0.5 exceedance for pixels:4%Aspen-like trees,7%Blackberry-like trees,0%live grass,and 2%dead grass).The process correctly maps forests and iron-rich Latosols as being coincident with existing drainages,and correctly classifies the clay-rich Nitisols and grasses on the intervening *** classifications are independently corroborated visually(Google Earth)and quantitatively(random soil samples and crossplots of field spectra).Some mapping challenges are the underestimation of forest fractions and overestimation of soil fractions where steep valley shadows exist,and the under representation of classified grass in some dry areas of the Hyperion *** preliminary results provide impetus for future hyperspectral studies involving airborne and satellite sensors with higher signal-to-noise and smaller footprints.

We report on pyramiding different disease resistance genes against fungal pathogens in Canadian winter wheat germplasm based on available DNA markers and gene *** resistance represents a safe, economical and ecological method for protecting plants, growers and the health of consumers. Major diseases of wheat on the Canadian Prairies are common bunt, rusts(leaf, stem and stripe) and Fusarium head blight. Over the years markers for resistance genes against these diseases have been identified and used by the international wheat community. We describe markers that we have used to pyramid different resistance genes and indicate their presence in Canadian winter wheat cultivars issued from the winter wheat breeding program at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada,Lethbridge Research and Development Centre, the only winter wheat breeding program in Western Canada actively delivering new varieties for all regions of the Canadian *** sources of resistance and identities of PCR primers and amplification conditions are indicated to enable the transfer and pyramiding of different resistance(R) genes to breeding lines. We conclude by reviewing new tools for identifying R genes in wheat and indicate how mutagenesis and gene editing can help future efforts to extend the protection offered by known R genes.

Improving georeferencing accuracy of Very High Resolution satellite imagery using freely available ancillary data at global coverage

While impressive direct geolocation accuracies better than 5.0 m CE90(90%of circular error)can be achieved from the last DigitalGlobe’s Very High Resolution(VHR)satellites(***-1 and WorldView-1/2/3/4),it is insufficient for many precise geodetic *** these sensors,the best horizontal geopositioning accuracies(around 0.55 m CE90)can be attained by using third-order 3D rational functions with vendor’s rational polynomial coefficients data refined by a zero-order polynomial adjustment obtained from a small number of very accurate ground control points(GCPs).However,these high-quality GCPs are not always *** this work,two different approaches for improving the initial direct geolocation accuracy of VHR satellite imagery are *** of them are based on the extraction of three-dimensional GCPs from freely available ancillary data at global coverage such as multi-temporal information of Google Earth and the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 30 m digital elevation *** application of these approaches on WorldView-2 and GeoEye-1 stereo pairs over two different study sites proved to improve the horizontal direct geolocation accuracy values around of 75%.

Asymmetric lipid distribution in the plasma membrane(PM)is one of the fundamental features of living *** not only serve as structural components of the biophysical structure of the PM that preserves cell integrity but also participate directly in *** phospholipids(PLs),such as phosphatidylserine(PS),phosphatidylethanolamine(PE),and phosphoinositol(PI),are preferentially located in the inner layer of the PM,creating electrostatic charges for the docking of membrane-associated and cytoplasmic proteins carrying polybasic stretches of amino ***,there is emerging evidence that reversible changes in the distribution of these lipids take place in the PM and that these changes are critical for normal cell signaling,functions and homeostasis[1–3].They can also be implicated in the genesis of pathologies.

In this study,we analyze the stock market reaction to 35 events associated with 32 publicly traded companies from six countries that have announced cryptocurrency acquisitions,selling,or acceptance as a means of *** analysis focuses on traditional firms whose core business is unrelated to blockchain or *** find that the aggregate market reaction around these events is slightly positive but statistically insignificant for most event ***,when we perform heterogeneity analyses,we observe significant differences in market reaction between events with high(larger CARs)and low cryptocurrency exposure(lower CARs).Multivariate regressions show that the level of exposure to cryptocurrency("skin in the game")is a critical factor underlying abnormal returns around the *** analyses reveal that economically meaningful acquisitions of BTC or ETH(relative to firm’s total assets)drive the observed *** findings have important implications for managers,investors,and analysts as they shed light on the relationship between cryptocurrency adoption and firm value.

Von HippeI-Lindau syndrome （VHL） is a rare autosomal-dominant, inherited familial cancer syndrome. Hemangioblastomas, pheochromocytomas and renal carcinoma are the frequent reported VHL tumors. Neuroendocrine tumors have also been described, mostly in the pancreas and rarely in the biliary trees. We report the second case of bile duct carcinoid in a 31-year-old VHL woman. She underwent right adrenalectomy for a pheochromocytoma in the past. She also had a positive family history of phenotypic expression of VHL syndrome. The patient presented with biliary colic. Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography showed intraluminal bile duct mass. Surgical exploration identified a beige nodular lesion that was a carcinoid tumor on histology. This new association should be clarified by further genetic investigations.

Reactive Extraction of Alcohols from Apolar Hydrocarbons with Aqueous Solutions

The aqueous solutions are evaluated as sustainable reactive extraction solvents for the recovery of monohydroxyl alcohols （benzyl alcohol, 1-hexanol, cyclohexanol） present in few-percent concentrations in apolar hydrocarbons （toluene, n-hexane, and cyclohexane） by considering two approaches. An aqueous solution containing a reactive extractant, like borate salts, borate complexes, a monosalt of dicarboxylic acid, hydroxypropyl-cyclodextrins, and silver nitrate, shows limited potential to be used. Another approach, in which the alcohol is chemically modified prior to the extraction into an easy-extractable form, in this case a monoester/carboxylic acid, shows much more potential. An environmentally benign aqueous solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate can provide a distribution ratio of benzyl alcohol up to 200, leaving the solubility of the organic solvent in the aqueous solution unchanged relative to pure water and therefore increasing the selectivity with two orders of magnitude. The modification of aromatic, cyclo-aliphatic, and linear aliphatic alcohols can be performed efficiently in the apolar organic solvent without need for a catalyst. The recovery of the modified alcohol can be performed by back-extraction in combination with a spontaneous hydrolysis.
