Exploring the influences of education,intelligence and income on mental disorders

Background Previous studies have shown that educational attainment(EA),intelligence and income are key factors associated with mental disorders.However,the direct effects of each factor on major mental disorders are unclear.Aims We aimed to evaluate the overall and independent causal effects of the three psychosocial factors on common mental disorders.Methods Using genome-wide association study summary datasets,we performed Mendelian randomisation(MR)and multivariable MR(MVMR)analyses to assess potential associations between the 3 factors(EA,N=766345;household income,N=392422;intelligence,N=146808)and 13 common mental disorders,with sample sizes ranging from 9907 to 807553.Inverse-variance weighting was employed as the main method in the MR analysis.Results Our MR analysis showed that(1)higher EA was a protective factor for eight mental disorders but contributed to anorexia nervosa,obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD),bipolar disorder(BD)and autism spectrum disorder(ASD);(2)higher intelligence was a protective factor for five mental disorders but a risk factor for OCD and ASD;(3)higher household income protected against 10 mental disorders but confers risk for anorexia nervosa.Our MVMR analysis showed that(1)higher EA was a direct protective factor for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)and insomnia but a direct risk factor for schizophrenia,BD and ASD;(2)higher intelligence was a direct protective factor for schizophrenia but a direct risk factor for major depressive disorder(MDD)and ASD;(3)higher income was a direct protective factor for seven mental disorders,including schizophrenia,BD,MDD,ASD,post-traumatic stress disorder,ADHD and anxiety disorder.Conclusions Our study reveals that education,intelligence and income intertwine with each other.For each factor,its independent effects on mental disorders present a more complex picture than its overall effects.

Shared genetics and bidirectional causal relationships between type 2 diabetes and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Background Type 2 diabetes(T2D)is a chronic metabolic disorder with high comorbidity with mental disorders.The genetic links between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)and T2D have yet to be elucidated.Aims We aim to assess shared genetics and potential associations between ADHD and T2D.Methods We performed genetic correlation,two-sample Mendelian randomisation and polygenic overlap analyses between ADHD and T2D.The genome-wide association study(GWAS)summary results of T2D(80154 cases and 853816 controls),ADHD2019(20183 cases and 35191 controls from the 2019 GWAS ADHD dataset)and ADHD2022(38691 cases and 275986 controls from the 2022 GWAS ADHD dataset)were used for the analyses.The T2D dataset was obtained from the DIAGRAM Consortium.The ADHD datasets were obtained from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium.We compared genome-wide association signals to reveal shared genetic variation between T2D and ADHD using the larger ADHD2022 dataset.Moreover,molecular pathways were constructed based on large-scale literature data to understand the connection between ADHD and T2D.Results T2D has positive genetic correlations with ADHD2019(rg=0.33)and ADHD2022(rg=0.31).Genetic liability to ADHD2019 was associated with an increased risk for T2D(odds ratio(OR):1.30,p<0.001),while genetic liability to ADHD2022 had a suggestive causal effect on T2D(OR:1.30,p=0.086).Genetic liability to T2D was associated with a higher risk for ADHD2019(OR:1.05,p=0.001)and ADHD2022(OR:1.03,p<0.001).The polygenic overlap analysis showed that most causal variants of T2D are shared with ADHD2022.T2D and ADHD2022 have three overlapping loci.Molecular pathway analysis suggests that ADHD and T2D could promote the risk of each other through inflammatory pathways.Conclusions Our study demonstrates substantial shared genetics and bidirectional causal associations between ADHD and T2D.

Causal associations between major depressive disorder and COVID-19

Background We aimed to evaluate whether major depressive disorder(MDD)could aggravate the outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)or whether the genetic liability to COVID-19 could trigger MDD.Aims We aimed to assess bidirectional causal associations between MDD and COVID-19.Methods We performed genetic correlation and Mendelian randomisation(MR)analyses to assess potential associations between MDD and three COVID-19 outcomes.Literature-based network analysis was conducted to construct molecular pathways connecting MDD and COVID-19.Results We found that MDD has positive genetic correlations with COVID-19 outcomes(rg:0.10–0.15).Our MR analysis indicated that genetic liability to MDD is associated with increased risks of COVID-19 infection(odds ratio(OR)=1.05,95%confidence interval(CI):1.00 to 1.10,p=0.039).However,genetic liability to the three COVID-19 outcomes did not confer any causal effects on MDD.Pathway analysis identified a panel of immunity-related genes that may mediate the links between MDD and COVID-19.Conclusions Our study suggests that MDD may increase the susceptibility to COVID-19.Our findings emphasise the need to increase social support and improve mental health intervention networks for people with mood disorders during the pandemic.

Grazing impact on forage quality and macronutrient content of rangelands in Qilian Mountains, NW China

An important indicator of the rangeland health, associated with land degradation, is the ability of semi-natural rangelands to provide forage of sufficient quality for livestock production. In Qilian Mountains(Gansu Province, NW China) biomass production and forage quality are dependent on the seasonality of precipitation and temperature; most of the precipitation falls during summer season, when sheep, goats and yaks graze mountain rangelands. To sustain the rangelands and to improve the management strategies, the assessment of the forage quality should be implemented. The purpose of this research was to study the response of biomass, forage quality and macronutrient content different levels of grazing intensity in Qilian rangelands. We sampled aboveground biomass in the growing seasons in 2012 and 2013 within spring/autumn or summer grazing regimes in two altitudinal zones below and above 3000 m a.s.l.(montane-subalpine and subalpine-alpine respectively). In order to estimate forage quality, biomass was sampled in 1 m × 1 m plots, assigned to the center of 10 ×10 m sites, fromwhich we collected different indicator parameters of rangeland health. Mineral and fiber content of forage biomass was estimated under different levels of grazing intensity with regard to the growing period. It was found that an increase in grazing intensity led to a decrease in dry matter weight. No linearity was observed in the relationship between nutritive value and grazing intensity. The highest fiber content(59.20 %) was found in plots mostly disturbed by grazing. The highest protein(16.30 %) and the lowest fiber(51.30 %) contents were associated with slightly grazing intensity. Concentrations of the mineral elements, such as Zn, P, K and S varied significantly and showed maximum values under low grazing intensity.

Cyclical Elliptical Pedal Surfaces

Intensive use of geometrical modelling started with the development of computer graphics and CAD/CAM technologies, comprising a wide area of mathematical disciplines. Geometrical modelling is a synthesis of the geometry and computer graphics, which enable us to develop complex mathematical models that would be rather difficult to display without using a computer. The author recognizes two basic methods of research of geometrical models, synthetic and analytic. The synthetic method makes use of geometrical constructions and in the analytic method geometrical objects are characterized by numerical data. The author uses these methods in this contribution. The aim of this research is to show central cyclides (Dupin s cyclides) as a special kind of the cyclical elliptical pedal surfaces. Firstly, applying the method of synthetic geometry, a new class of such surfaces in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space (model of the projective space) is defined. The geometrical construction of these surfaces is dependent on the given ellipse and the position of the pole P. It is the point at which the pencil of perpendicular planes passes to the plane of the ellipse, wherein the generating circles of the surface are lying. The parametric equations of the cyclical elliptical surface are derived applying the method of analytic geometry. The author classifies the surfaces according to the number of generating circles with a zero radius. The evolute of the ellipse divides the plane of the ellipse into two areas,Ω1 and Ω2. The shape of the surface depends on the position of the pole P in the areas of Ω1 and Ω2. The surface can have 4, 3 or 2 circles with a zero radius. The author then describes the relationship between these surfaces and the Dupin s cyclides, obtained in the case when the pole P is the point on the major axis of the ellipse. Finally, the transformation of these surfaces is shown by changing of the orthonormal base in the parameterization of the generating circles of the surface. The author visualizes the resulting surface

2014年成为中俄战略伙伴关系的催化剂。在普京总统和习近平主席的深切友谊助推下,两国优先重视政治合作,加深政治联系从而促进双方在能源和安全领域的合作。然而,这加剧了“低政治”领域的经济不对称。多年来,原材料在俄罗斯对华出口中占主导地位,而能源领域的合作使得俄罗斯更容易受到中国需求的影响。与此同时,俄罗斯越来越依赖从中国进口的高附加值产品。最近,俄罗斯在与中国的木材贸易中表现的十分脆弱。此外,双边投资的性质几乎是一边倒的,并且中国投资者仅投资在俄罗斯有限的几个部门。现有的国家层面的问题在区域间一级变得更加明显,因为在区域一级各国的接触最密切。国家间日益增长的经济不对称,引发了社会不满。俄罗斯社会对中国的态度是对区域间合作的新挑战。当地居民出于对未知事物的非理性恐惧,抵制了中国的投资。这对中俄经济合作产生了负面影响,尽管作出了种种努力,但两国未能实现既定目标。

Genetic Analysis of 17 Children with Hunter Syndrome:Identification and Functional Characterization of Four Novel Mutations in the Iduronate-2-Sulfatase Gene

Mucopolysaccharidosis type II （MPS II） is a rare X-linked disorder caused by alterations in the iduronate-2-sulfatase （IDS） gene. In this study, IDS activity in peripheral mononuclear blood monocytes （PMBCs） was measured with a fluorimetric enzyme assay. Urinary glycosaminoglycans （GAGs） were quantified using a colorimetric assay. All IDS exons and intronic flanks were bidirectionally sequenced. A total of 15 mutations （all exonic region） were found in 17 MPS II patients. In this cohort of MPS II patients, all alterations in the IDS gene were caused by point nucleotide substitutions or small deletions. Mutations p.Arg88His and p.Arg172＊ occurred twice. All mu- tations were inherited except for p.Gly489Alafs＊7, a germline mutation. We found four new mutations （p.Ser142Phe, p.Arg233Gly, p.Glu430＊, and p.Ile360Tyrfs＊31）. In Epstein-Barr virus （EBV）-immortalized PMBCs derived from the MPS II patients, no IDS protein was detected in case of the p.Ser142Phe and p.Ile360Tyrfs＊31 mutants. For p.Arg233Gly and p.Glu430＊, we observed a residual expression of IDS. The p.Arg233Gly and p.Glu430＊ mutants had a residuary enzymatic activity that was lowered by 14.3 and 76-fold, respectively, compared with healthy controls. This observation may help explain the mild disease phenotype in MPS II patients who had these two mutations whereas the p.Ser142Phe and p.Ile360Tyrfs＊31 mutations caused the severe disease manifestation.

本研究的目的是对中俄两国体育教师培训体系进行深入比较与分析。在研究过程中,对两国体育教师培训体系的历史特征、起源、异同进行了系统的研究。在体育领域有一些关于中国教育体制特征的著作,也有一些关于俄罗斯教育体制的著作,但在比较方案方面的科学研究范围极低。本研究的目的和目标具有重要的理论意义和现实意义,我们希望通过这项工作来填补这一空白。研究目的:通过深入研究中俄未来体育教师培训体系各个要素,对其进行系统的比较分析,确定两国体育教师制度的结构和组织特征,确定教育过程的思想、历史文化特征,影响学术流动的发展过程。研究目标:1.研究和比较俄罗斯和中国体育教育的发展;2.比较和确定体育教师培训的主要异同;3.发现问题并提出建议对俄罗斯和中国的体育的形成与发展就行了系统的分析。研究揭示了体育教师专业准备的异同。在培训过程中发现了问题,并提供了建议。相似之处被揭示:1.体育教师的培训是一个整体的教学过程,在此期间,他的个性形成,一般和专业文化的发展形成,专业准备形成,专业能力形成,从而为教师的专业性奠定基础。2.在中国和俄罗斯的大学取得体育学士学位的入学要求是在一般条件下相同的。3.体育是教育过程的一个组成部分,这一课在两国的教育中都是义务教育。4.体育的主要任务是改善儿童的健康并为未来的生活做好准备。5.为学生组织个人培训计划,包括各种选修课程。6.“体育”的专业准备对应于高等专业教育的教育标准,节目的内容和结构客观地实现了目标。发现差异:1.俄罗斯计划对“体育文化”的教育学科具有较低程度的思想负荷。2.在俄罗斯大学的教育计划中,很多关注心理取向的主题。3.在中国,教育项目包括国家类型的体操和游戏。4.中国体育大学本科生课程的目的是学习一门外语,使您能够在专业中仔细学习外国文学,并提供足够的会话培训。5.入读中国大学的体育学士学位的一些要求包括婚姻状况,年龄和身高。6.在中国,分配给教育实践的时间要长得多。目前,俄罗斯学校和幼儿园的体育教师严重短缺。在这方面,俄罗斯应该解决一些问题与学生的动机。重要的是要创造一个良好的环境,为人们的工作作为一个体育教师。同样重要的是,教师的影响很大,在大学培训高素质的教学人员是必要的。及时实施和开展现代技术培训,监督教师的认证和专业发展。其结果是,我们可以注意到,培训体育教师在俄罗斯和中国的系统有许多相似之处和不同之处,由于这样的事实,国家都在积极从事经验和知识的交流。尽管两国的文化和特征存在巨大差异,但他们的道路前进,实现理想的愿望也以这种方式指引着他们前行。

The World Health Organization(WHO)announced COVID-19 as a global pandemic in March of 2020[1].The COVID-19 pandemic may persist for a long period of time.Global prevention and control becomes a complex and challenging task,and such efforts should be sustained.Although general measures,such as social distancing,face masks,respiratory hygiene and hand sanitization,will bear fruits for decreasing spread of other respiratory illnesses including influenza,the specific prevention through vaccination is a key focus especially in the upcoming winter and spring seasons[2].
