Chronic hepatitis C virus infection:prevalence of extrahepatic manifestations and association with cryoglobulinemia in Bulgarian patients

AIM: To assess the prevalence of extrahepatic manifestations in Bulgarian patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and identify the clinical and biological manifestations associated with cryoglobulinemia. METHODS: The medical records of 136 chronically infected HCV patients were reviewed to assess the prevalence of extrahepatic manifestations. Association between cryoglobulin-positivity and other manifestations were identified using χ2 and Fisher’s exact test. Risk factors for the presence of extrahepatic manifestations were assessed by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Seventy six percent (104/136) of the patients had at least one extrahepatic manifestation. Clinical manifestations included fatigue (59.6%), kidney impairment (25.0%), type 2 diabetes (22.8%), paresthesia (19.9%), arthralgia (18.4%), palpable purpura (17.6%), lymphadenopathy (16.2%), pulmonary fi brosis (15.4%), thyroid dysfunction (14.7%), Raynaud’s phenomenon (11.8%), B-cell lymphoma (8.8%), sicca syndrome (6.6%), and lichen planus (5.9%). The biological manifestations included cryoglobulinproduction (37.5%), thrombocytopenia (31.6%), and autoantibodies: anti-nuclear (18.4%), anti-smooth muscle (16.9%), anti-neutrophil cytoplasm (13.2%) and anti-cardiolipin (8.8%). All extrahepatic manifestations showed an association with cryoglobulin-positivity, with the exception of thyroid dysfunction, sicca syndrome, and lichen planus. Risks factors for the presence of extrahepatic manifestations (univariate analysis) were: age ≥ 60 years, female gender, virus transmission by blood transfusions, longstanding infection (≥ 20 years), and extensive liver fi brosis. The most signifi cant risks factors (multivariate analysis) were longstanding infection and extensive liver fi brosis. CONCLUSION: We observed a high prevalence of extrahepatic manifestations in patients with chronic HCV infection. Recurring heavy rainfall resulting in degraded-upgraded phases in soil microbial networks that are reflected insoil functioning

Biological soil crusts(BSCs)are an important multi-trophic component of arid ecosystems in the Mediterranean *** a mesocosm experiment,the authors investigated how the network of interactions among the members of the soil microbial communities in four types of soil sample responded when soils were exposed to two simulated extreme rain *** four types of soil samples were:covered by Cladonia rangiformis and previously hydrated(+BSC+H),covered by *** and dried(+BSC-H),uncovered and hydrated(-BSC+H),uncovered and dried(-BSC-H).Network analysis was based on the co-occurrence patterns of microbes;microbes were assessed by the phospholipid fatty acids *** authors further explored the relations between networks’metrics and soil functions denoted by enzymatic activity and soil chemical *** networks exhibited Small world properties,moderate values of clustering coefficient and eigen centrality,indicating the lack of hub *** networks in-BSC-H soils appeared coherent during the pre-rain phases and they became modular after rains,while those in+BSC-H soils kept their connectivity till the second rain but this then *** network metrics that were indicative of cohesive networks tended to be related to enzyme activity while those that characterized the loose networks were related to Ca,K,Mg,NH_(4)^(+) and organic *** all mesocosms except for+BSC-H,networks’fragmentation after the second heavy rain was milder than after the first one,supporting the idea of community *** response of microbial networks to heavy rains was characterized by the tendency to exhibit degradation-reconstruction *** network collapse in the crusted only mesocosms showed that the communities beneath crusts in arid areas were extremely vulnerable to recurring heavy rain events.

Study of variable stars associated with maser sources: G025.65+1.05

We report variation of K-band infrared(IR) emission in the vicinity of the G025.65+1.05 water and methanol maser source. New observational data were obtained with the 2.5 m telescope at the Caucasian Mountain Observatory(CMO) of Moscow State University on 2017–09–21 during a strong water maser flare. We found that the IR source situated close to the maser position had decreased brightness in comparison to archive data. This source is associated with a massive young stellar object(MYSO) corresponding to the compact IR source IRAS 18316–0602(RAFGL 7009 S). A similar decrease in K-brightness of the IR source close to the maser position was observed in March 2011 when the water maser experienced a period of increased activity. The dips in MYSO brightness can be related to the maser flare phases. Maser flares that are concurrent with dips in the IR emission can be explained if the lower IR radiation field enables a more efficient sink for the pumping cycle by allowing IR photons to escape the maser region.

Variability of emission lines in the optical spectra of the Herbig Be binary system HD 200775

In our previous papers we have improved the value of the orbital period of the binary Herbig Be star HD 200775 and showed that the [O I] and Si II 6347 and 6371 ?A emission lines displayed variations which correlate with the orbital period. In this paper we provide evidences that other broad emission lines of metals in the spectra of HD 200775 also exhibit variability, which is probably related to the orbital cycle of the binary. Analysis was performed based on the high-resolution spectral data collected over a time span of 6 years at the Kourovka Astronomical Observatory of the Ural Federal University(Russia) and the Three College Observatory of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro(USA) as well as archival spectral data compiled since 1994. We report new data points in the radial velocity curve of the He I 5876 ?A line near the extremal values of the radial velocity.

The article discusses various approaches for probiotic treatment of Helicobacter pylori(***)infection:probiotics as an adjuvant treatment in the standard eradication therapy;probiotic strains as a monotherapy;and autoprobiotics as a *** refer to indigenous bifidobacteria,lactobacilli,or enterococci isolated from a specific individual,intended to restore his/her microbiota and improve his/her *** potential mechanisms of probiotic action against *** include correction of the gut microbiota,immunological effects(enhancement of humoral and cellular immunity,and reduction of oxidative stress),direct antagonistic effects against ***(such as colonization resistance and bacteriocin synthesis),and stimulation of local immunological protection(strengthening of the mucous protective barrier and reduction of gastric mucosa inflammation).The incorporation of probiotics into comprehensive eradication therapy shows promise in optimizing the treatment of *** *** can enhance the eradication rates of ***,reduce the occurrence and severity of side effects,and improve patient *** or autoprobiotic monotherapy can be considered as an alternative treatment approach in cases of allergic reactions and insufficient effectiveness of *** recommend including probiotics as adjunctive medications in *** ***,further randomized multicenter studies are necessary to investigate the effects of probiotics and autoprobiotics against ***,in order to gain a better understanding of their mechanisms of action.

Flexible biodegradable transparent heaters based on fractal-like leaf skeletons

We present a facile method to prepare flexible,transparent,biodegradable,and fast resistive heaters by applying silver(Ag)nanowires onto fractal-like leaf *** fractal-like structure of the leaf skeleton maximizes its surface area,improving the transfer of heat to its surroundings and thus making the heater fast,without compromising *** ion layer on the leaf skeleton helps to conformally cover the surface with Ag *** sheet resistance of the heater can be controlled by the loading of Ag nanowires,without sacrificing the optical transmittance(~80%at 8Ωsq^(−1)).The heating is uniform and the surface temperature of a 60 mm×60 mm heater(8Ωsq^(−1))can quickly(5-10 s)raise to 125℃ with a low voltage(6 V).The heater displays excellent mechanical flexibility,showing no significant change in resistance and heating temperature when bent up to curvature of 800 m^(−1).Finally,we demonstrate the potential of the bioinspired heater as a thermotherapy patch by encapsulating it in a biodegradable tape and mounting it on the human wrist and *** study shows that fractal-like structures from nature can be repurposed as fractal designs for flexible electronics.

Effect of hydrotherapy on sleep deficiency among older people in integrated community health services in pandak Ⅰ Bantul

Objective: Relaxation technique is a nonpharmacological treatment applied to increase sleep efficiency and the quality of *** is one of the relaxation techniques and uses warm water to decrease stress and muscle stiffness, as well as to warm the body. The incidence of sleep deficiency among older people in Integrated Community Health Services, pandak I Bantul, has slightly increased year by year. This research aims to evaluate the effect of hydrotherapy on sleep deprivation among older ***: The research was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-post test design. purposive sampling was used to enroll 66 older people from the Integrated Community Health Services, pandak I Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as a sample, and we divided them into two groups: 33 people formed the intervention group, and 33 people comprised the control group. The intervention group did hydrotherapy once a day for a total of 7 days. First, they soaked their feet in warm water for 10 minutes. The water temperature was adjusted according to the body temperature, to approximately 40.0℃-43.0℃. Then, the intervention group took a bath using warm water. The level of sleep quality was measured using the pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(pSQI) questionnaire. Data analysis was done using the Wilcoxon ***: The mean score for sleep quality in the pretest in the intervention group was 9.04(standard deviation [SD]: 2.57) and the score on the posttest was 42(SD: 1.43). The mean score for sleep quality in the intervention group was 4.67, with p=***, the research found that the difference between the pretest and posttest scores for quality of sleep in the control group was 0.42, with p=0.059.
