One of the m.st vulnerable parts to natural hazards in Serbia is Kolubara river basin. In the past, during the period from.1929 to 2013, 121 torrential flood events in the Kolubara river basin were recorded which show that this territory is extrem.ly vulnerable to the torrential floods. The extrem. event which occurred in m.y 2014 causing the catastrophic m.terial dam.ges and casualties was the latest and historical flood. The analysis of natural conditions in the Kolubara basin uniform.y showed that this area is predisposed to a greater num.er of torrential floods due to its geom.rphological, hydrological and land use properties. Torrential floods are closely related to the intensity and spatial distribution of erosive processes in the upper part of the Kolubara basin. The estim.tion of soil erosion potential is generally achieved by Erosion Potential m.del(EPm.. For the purposes of determ.ning the degree of torrential properties in various water stream. in the Kolubara basin, the calculation ofsusceptibility to torrential floods was assessed by Flash Flood Potential Index(FFPI). m.re than half of the basin area(57.2%) is located within the category of very weak and weak erosion(Z_(sr) = 0.35), but the category of m.dium.erosion is geospatially very com.on. Such a distribution of m.dium.erosion category provides conditions for generating, i.e. production of sedim.nt which would boost torrential properties of water stream.. After the classification of the obtained FFPI values it was determ.ned that 25% of the Kolubara basin is very susceptible to torrents and this data should be seriously taken into consideration. Based on the analyses, the best and m.st successful m.nner of defence is prevention which consists of the integrated river basin m.0}gem.nt system.integrated torrent control system. so that technical works in hydrographic networks of torrents and biological and biotechnical works on the slope of the basin would be the best solution. Purpose of Review: Obesity is defined as an abnormal fat accumulation associated with disease development risk. The prevalence of obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) continues to increase at a concerning pace. The modern lifestyle requires people to rely on processed foods because of their efficiency and low-cost, which are associated with obesity and NCDs. Vegetarian diet refers to the exclusion of meat, fish, seafood and can also exclude animal products such as dairy and eggs. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to explore vegetarianism as a potential solution for obesity and the development of non-communicable diseases. Recent Findings: Meat intake is also related to unhealthy food groups consumption, contributing to overall poor diet quality. In contrast, vegetarian diets are associated with higher satiety, resulting in less food intake, favoring weight reduction. Lowering the prevalence of NCDs should be a priority, and nutritional interventions are pivotal to accomplish this goal. Summary: Vegetarian diets are associated with weight loss due to: fiber content, lower caloric density, m.crobiota regulation, and the release of gastrointestinal appetite-regulating horm.nes. Plant-based eating patterns have dem.nstrated an overall healthier diet and can be a potential solution for obesity and NCDs’ developm.nt.

Polyphenolic com.ounds, widely distributed in plant kingdom. have been exhaustively studied for their bioactive properties specially antioxidant activity. However, they are extensively m.tabolized by hum.n organism.and the resulting m.tabolites are largely responsible for their effects. Furtherm.re, they m.y interact with the endogenous antioxidant network being this possibility scarcely studied. Plasm. antioxidant network encom.asses antioxidant enzym.s and other substances such as uric acid. In addition, ascorbic acid is the m.jor com.ound representing water soluble com.artm.nt both in foods and hum.n body. The interaction of this vitam.n with phenolic com.ound is largely unexplored. This work aim. to study if there is a synergic effect between phenolic m.tabolites and m.in antioxidants (uric and ascorbic acid). For this purpose, the antioxidant activity was evaluated in term. of ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) and FRAP (ferricreducing antioxidant power) as these tests involved either HAT (Hydrogen Atom.Transfer) or SET (Single Electron Transfer) m.chanism.. Additionally, a kinetic studied was developed to test if the rate constant presented a synergic effect. Protocatechuic acid, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acid and 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid were selected as they were m.tabolites of polyphenol com.ounds such as anthocyanins, quercetin, neohesperidin, chlorogenic acid and hesperetin present in wines, orange and strawberries. A synergic effect was proved for the com.ination of ascorbic acid with 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, both in term. of antioxidant activity and potent increase of velocity of the antioxidant reaction that took place.

Duloxetine(DUL), an antidepressant drug, has been detected in surface water and wastewater effluents, however, there is little inform.tion on the form.tion of its transform.tion products(TPs). In this work, hydrolysis, photodegradation(UV irradiation) and chlorination experim.nts were perform.d on spiked distillated water, under controlled experim.ntal conditions to sim.late abiotic processes that can occur in the environm.nt and wastewater treatm.nt plants(WWTPs). Eleven TPs, nine from.reaction with UV light and two from.chlorine contact, were form.d and detected by ultra-high perform.nce liquid chrom.tography coupled to quadrupole tim.-of-flight m.ss spectrom.try, and nine of them.had their chem.cal structures elucidated upon analyses of their fragm.ntation patterns in m./m. spectra. The form.tion and degradation of the TPs were observed. The parent com.ound was com.letely degraded after30 m.n in photodegradation and after 24 hr in chlorination. Alm.st all TPs were com.letely degraded in the experim.nts. The ecotoxicity and m.tagenicity of the TPs were predicted based on several in silico m.dels and it was found that a few of these products presented m.re ecotoxicity than DUL itself and six TPs showed positive m.tagenicity. Finally, wastewater sam.les were analyzed and DUL and one TP, possibly form.d by chlorination process, were detected in the effluent, which showed that WWTP not only did not rem.ve DUL, but also form.d a TP.

Coraebus florentinus (Herbst) is a wood borer beetle that dam.ges the m.st abundant Quercus species m.king up the m.diterranean forests. Dam.ge is due to the feeding activity of the larvae which cuts the sap flow into the branch where it develops, drying it. In the last decades, the geographical range and the dam.ge records of this species have expanded northwardly as a result of the clim.te global change since warm.r conditions favor higher reproduction and quicker developm.nt of this species. On this paper, historical series of data after ten years evaluating dam.ges by C. florentinus in Hornachuelos Natural Park (Southern Spain) are analyzed under the perspective of the environm.ntal tem.erature increase linked to the global clim.te change. The assessm.nt was done between 2007 and 2017, in two sam.ling plots of m.diterranean m.xed-oak forests where holm.and cork oaks are the predom.nant tree species. Results show that the infestation levels of this species at the beginning of the assessm.nt period were higher than those described previously in the nineties and that they increased progressively during the m.nitoring tim.. The results also agree with the expansion of its distribution areas noticed in other areas of Europe. The foreseeable rising of dam.ges of C. florentinus is discussed, at greater scale, under the perspective of future scenery of environm.ntal warm.ng and oaks decaying by losing fitness due to higher soil aridity.
