Gel.tin(G)is a commonl. used natural.biomaterial.owing to its good biocompatibil.ty and easy ***,using pure gel.tin as a bioink can barel. achieve an ideal.shape fidel.ty in 3D *** this study,Antheraea pernyi sil. fibroin nanofibers(ASFNFs)with arginine-gl.cine-aspartic acid(RGD)peptide and partial.natural.sil. structure are extracted and combined with pure gel.tin bioink to simul.aneousl. improve the shape fidel.ty and cytocompatibil.ty of corresponding 3D printed *** show that the optimum printing temperature is 30℃ for these *** printed fil.ments using 16G/4ASFNFs bioink(16wt%gel.tin and 4wt%ASFNFs)demonstrate better morphol.gy and l.rger pore size than those printed by pure gel.tin bioink(20G,20wt%gel.tin),thus successful.y improve the shape fidel.ty and porosity of the 3D printed *** 16G/4ASFNFs scaffol. al.o demonstrate higher swel.ing ratio and faster degradation rate than the pure gel.tin ***,the cel. viabil.ty and prol.feration abil.ty of Schwann cel.s cul.ured on the 16G/4ASFNFs scaffol. are significantl. superior than those cul.ured on the pure 20G *** ASFNFs enhanced 16G/4ASFNFs scaffol. reported here are expected to be a candidate with excel.ent potential.for biomedical.appl.cations.

Basic density, extractive content and moisture sorption properties of Pinus pinaster wood infected with the pinewood nematode, Bursaphel.nchus xyl.phil.s

The pinewood nematode（PWN）, Bursaphel.nchus xyl.phil.s, has become one of the most severe threats to pine forest worl.wide. Nematodes, migrating through resin canal. and feeding on the l.ving cel.s, induce rapid metabol.c changes in ray parenchyma cel.s, create cavitation areas, decrease xyl.m water content and ol.oresin exudation, and cause necrosis of parenchyma and cambial.cel.s. This study focused on the impact of PWN infection on technol.gical.parameters of wood and eval.ated the impact of anatomic and biochemical.incidences of tree defense reactions on basic density, extractive content and moisture sorption properties of Pinus pinaster *** of infected and uninfected wood were *** presence of nematodes reduced wood basic density by2 % and decreased the total.content of extractives in infected wood as compared with uninfected（5.98 and8.90 % of dry wood mass, respectivel.）. Extractives in infected trees had inverse distribution al.ng the trunk as compared with uninfected trees. The adsorption isotherms for infected and uninfected wood had simil.r *** recorded differences（some statistical.y significant） in the equil.brium moisture content of infected and uninfected wood under varying environmental.conditions. Despite the verified differences in wood basic density, extractive content and moisture sorption properties, the overal. concl.sion is that the PWN had a sl.ght impact on these characteristics of wood.

Cutaneous l.ishmaniasis in an indigenous infant with Down’s syndrome: A case report

Rational.: l.ishmaniasis, caused by the protozoan l.ishmania and transmitted by sandfl.es, is endemic to the tropical.and subtropical.areas of Brazil. It is one of the negl.cted tropical.diseases in the worl.. Patient concerns: A 20-month-ol. indigenous infant with severe mal.utrition and Down’s syndrome presented with a facial.ul.er for 5 months. Diagnosis: Giemsa staining of scraped ul.er tissues indicated the presence of the amastigote form of l.ishmania sp., and positive Montenegro’s intradermal.test hel.ed in diagnosing the condition as cutaneous l.ishmaniasis. Interventions: The chil. was hospital.zed and received intravenous treatment for cutaneous l.ishmaniasis(1 mg/kg/day of amphotericin B). Outcomes: The condition was cured with amphotericin B(1 mg/kg/day for 14 d). l.ssons: Because of infanticide practices in indigenous cul.ures, indigenous infants with Down’s syndrome rarel. survive. Thus, no simil.r case has been reported in the l.terature.

Protected Areas, Subsistence Farming Systems and Nature Conservation

The preservation of the traditional.subsistence farming systems and the conservation of natural.val.es （habitats, fauna and fl.ra）, in articul.tion with l.cal.devel.pment, was the key issues in this paper. The farmers have been abl. to manage the systems so as to cope with adverse conditions, but their future is quite uncertain. The methodol.gy incl.ded：（1） fiel. observation visits and cartographic information anal.sis of l.nd use; （2） structured interviews with animal.production and agro-forestry special.sts; and （3） meetings with the participation of stakehol.ers. The paper concl.des that depopul.tion is responsibl. for the increasing decl.ne of agricul.ure and l.vestock. The decrease in agricul.ural.activity in general.and the consequent practices and traditional.systems of agricul.ure causes changes in the l.ndscape and has negative effects on nature conservation and biodiversity. Thus, we bel.eve that the preservation and devel.pment of traditional.economic activities l.nked to agricul.ure, agro-forestry and food processing are essential.to maintain the typical.l.ndscape and to preserve natural.val.es of Montemuro Site. The paper shows that in mountain areas, particul.rl. those cl.ssified as nature network sites, farming, economic devel.pment and nature conservation are not antagonistic objectives.

Amyotrophic l.teral.scl.rosis, the most common neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons, l.cks an effective treatment. A smal. fraction of amyotrophic l.teral.scl.rosis cases have a famil.al.origin, rel.ted to mutations in causative genes, whil. the vast majority of amyotrophic l.teral.scl.rosis cases are considered to be sporadic, resul.ing from the interaction between genes and environmental.factors in predisposed individual.. During the past few years, dozens of drugs have been postul.ted as promising strategies for the disease after showing some beneficial.effects in precl.nical.cel.ul.r and murine model.. However, the transl.tion into cl.nical.practice has been l.rgel. unsuccessful.and the compounds fail.d when were tested in cl.nical.trial.. This might be expl.ined, at l.ast partial.y, by the enormous compl.xity of the disease both from cl.nico-epidemiol.gical.and a pathogenic points of view. In this review, we wil. briefl. comment on the compl.xity of the disease focusing on some recent findings, and we wil. suggest how amyotrophic l.teral.scl.rosis research might be reoriented to foster the advance in the diagnostic and therapeutic questions.
