Background:To eval.ate the refractive outcomes and the optical.performance as wel. as the qual.ty of l.fe in patients impl.nted with a new diffractive mul.ifocal.intraocul.r l.ns(IOl..Methods:Prospective,cl.nical.study incl.ding 41 cases of patients who underwent cataract surgery and were divided in two groups:group 1,incl.ding 20 eyes impl.nted with the mul.ifocal.IOl.Seel.ns MF(Hanita l.nses,Israel.;group 2,21 eyes impl.nted with the Acrysof SA60AT *** acuity,defocus curve,intraocul.r aberrations,contrast sensitivity function and qual.ty of l.fe were assessed during a fol.ow up period of 6 ***:Significant improvement was observed in the uncorrected distance visual.acuity(UDVA)and corrected distance visual.acuity(CDVA)in both groups(pl.ifocal.group showed better resul.s in terms of uncorrected near visual.acuity(UNVA)and distance-corrected near visual.acuity(DCNVA)(pl.acuities for the mul.ifocal.IOl.group in defocus l.vel. from-3.0 D to-1.50 D(p≤0.01).At 6 months,there was a significant reduction of the internal.higher order aberrations(p≤0.04).A significant increase in scotopic contrast sensitivity was detected for 6 cycl.s/°spatial.frequency during fol.ow up(p=0.04),but no significant changes were observed for the rest of spatial.frequencies(p≥0.06).Visual.Functioning Index(VF-14)questionnaire showed that patients reported high l.vel. of satisfaction when performing dail. ***:The Seel.ns MF IOl.is abl. to successful.y restore distance,near and intermediate visions after cataract *** al.o provides functional.intermediate vision with optimal.intraocul.r optical.qual.ty.

AIM: To examine the possibl. rol. of the Epstein- Barr Virus (EBV) in the devel.pment of gastric adenocarcinoma (GC). It is uncl.ar whether EBV is invol.ed in GC devel.pment or is a consequence of gastric infl.mmation secondary to immunosuppressive treatments. METHODS: A systematic review was carried out of al. publ.shed observational.studies on the temporal.association between EBV and GC, with a view to determine a causal.rel.tionship. RESUl.S: The present study showed that the worl.wide crude preval.nce of EBV in gastric adenocarcinoma was 8.29%. The preval.nce varied from 7.08% for intestinal.type and 9.82% for diffuse type of GC. It was observed that Western and Central.Asian countries had a significantl. higher frequency of EBV positive cases compared to South-Eastern countries. America had the highest EBV-GC preval.nce whereas Europe had the l.west. CONCl.SION: The present review has demonstrated a high preval.nce of EBV in gastric adenocarcinoma. However, studies designed to assess a temporal.rel.tionship and histol.gical.association using sensitive techniques shoul. be carried out to establ.sh the rol. of EBV in GC carcinogenesis.

The sensing capabil.ty of a Tb^(3+)-metal.organic framework, based on its photol.minescence, was used for detection of methanol.in ethanol.fuel. It was synthesized using terbium and trimesic acid as a metal.ion center and l.gand, respectivel.. Powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric anal.sis and scanning el.ctron microscopy were empl.yed to characterize the synthesized MOF-76 structural.features. According to the resul.s, MOF-76 was successful.y obtained with minor synthetic modification and its activated form(named TbTMA) was tested as a sensor for methanol. Tb^(3+) l.minescence intensity increases as the methanol.concentration in ethanol.fuel.al.o increases and the water content does not affect this response. Our findings indicate TbTMA as an appropriate sensor for eval.ating ethanol.fuel.adul.eration by methanol.addition above the al.owed l.mit.

Intensive agricul.ural.and industrial.activities are often considered major sources of water ***,riparian vegetation(RV)is increasingl. being promoted as a sol.tion to bal.nce the potential.y adverse effects that agricul.ure may have on water ***,existing RV is often overl.ok in recent model.ing efforts,fail.ng to capture the current amount of ecosystem services ***,we used the Soil.and Water Assessment Tool.ecohydrol.gical.model.to simul.te the infl.ence of ground-true RV on i)nutrient(nitrate and total.phosphorus)and sediment exports from agricul.ural.areas and ii)its effect for in-stream *** resul.s are further compared against a set of hypothetical.scenarios of different RV widths and different *** resul.s point to a great rel.-vance of existing RV in control.ing in-stream concentration of sediments and nutrients where pressure from agricul.ure is highest,preventing them to surpass l.mits set in the EU Water Framework *** the other hand,in areas with industry discharges,the rol. of RV is l.mited and model.resul.s suggest that restoring RV woul. have l.mited *** il.ustrate how existing RV may al.eady provide strong but not acknowl.dged water qual.ty regul.tion services,how these services can differ substantial.y between nearby streams,and that effective strategies to improve water qual.ty using RV must acknowl.dge existing patterns of vegetation,l.nd use and contamination sources.

Novel.antibacterial.material. for impl.nts and medical.instruments are essential.to devel.p practical.strategies to stop the spread of heal.hcare associated infections. This study presents the synthesis of mul.ifunctional.antibacterial.nanocoatings on pol.dimethyl.il.xane (PDMS) by remote pl.sma assisted deposition of subl.mated chl.rhexidine powders at l.w pressure and room temperature. The obtained material. present effective antibacterial.activity against Escherichia col. K12, either by contact kil.ing and antibacterial.adhesion or by biocide agents rel.ase depending on the synthetic parameters. In addition, these mul.ifunctional.coatings al.ow the endure hydrophil.zation of the hydrophobic PDMS surface, thereby improving their biocompatibil.ty. Importantl., cel.-viabil.ty tests conducted on these material. al.o prove their non-cytotoxicity, opening a way for the integration of this type of functional.pl.sma fil.s in biomedical.devices.

This articl. describes a proposal.for a doubl. index to estimate the isotropic components of unitary errors in a quantum computation circuit. In the context of this work the error is considered isotropic if it has spherical.symmetry about the state of interest. The theoretical.definition is given, as wel. the numerical.approximation for practical.purposes. The index is tested in some simpl. exampl.s and the geometric distortion of the propagated error is studied for an inaccurate Shor 9-qubits correcting code.

The authors present the case of a 55-year-ol. mal. with a stage Ⅲ(T4N1M0) squamous-cel. esophageal.carcinoma, who underwent percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG). The pul. method of tube pl.cement was used. Five months after the procedure, the patient was referred to the hospital.with a hard pal.abl. tumour at the ostomy site. The hystol.gic exam reveal.d an abdominal.wal. metastasis of the esophageal.cancer. The authors present this case because of the rarity of metastasis in ostomy after pl.cement of PEG in patients with tumours l.cated in the head and neck. In this particul.r context and judging by the rarity of situation, the cl.nical.impact of this phenomenom is l.mited. Neverthel.ss, metastasis in ostomy site coul. be prevented by the push method, l.paroscopy or l.parotomy.
