Intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH) is a very complex pathology, with many dif.erent not f.lly elucidated etiologies and prognostics. It is the most severe subtype of.stroke, with high mortality and morbidity rates. Unf.rtunately, despite the numerous promising preclinical assays including neuroprotective, anti-hypertensive,and anti-inf.ammatory drugs, to this moment only symptomatic treatments are available, motivating the search f.r new alternatives. In this context, stem cell therapy emerged as a promising tool. However, more than a decade has passed, and there is still much to be learned not only about stem cells, but also about ICH itself. and how these two pieces come together. To date, rats have been the most widely used animal model in this research f.eld, and there is much more to be learned f.om and about them. In this review, we f.rst summarize ICH epidemiology, risk f.ctors, and pathophysiology. We then present dif.erent methods utilized to induce ICH in rats, and examine how accurately they represent the human disease. Next, we discuss the dif.erent types of.stem cells used in previous ICH studies, also taking into account the tested transplantation sites. f.nally, we summarize what has been achieved in assays with stem cells in rat models of.ICH, and point out some relevant issues where attention must be given in f.ture ef.orts.

Microbiological control of.f.eds used in industrial poultry production has been increasingly important due to the demands of.the market f.r f.od saf.ty, as well as the need to ensure better quality of.the digestive system of.the birds. Microbiological analysis carried out in raw material used in f.ed production, especially f.ather, meat, and organ meal, has shown contamination by Clostridium perf.ingens. In order to study the presence of.Clostridium perf.ingens, a total of.354 samples of.f.ed and raw material were analyzed f.om January 2011 to July 2013. Samples came f.om f.ur companies located in the state of.São Paulo, with a total of.166 samples of.meat meal, 24 samples of.f.ather meal, 43 samples of.organ meal, and 121 samples of.f.ed. The f.llowing results were obtained: 88 (53%), 15 (62.5%), 16 (37.21%), and 23 (19%) samples were positive f.r Clostridium perf.ingens in each group of.samples, respectively, with counts ranging f.om 2.0 × 102 to 7.0 × 103 Cf./g.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating f.el cell conditions require the identif.cation of.alternative supports f.r platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray dif.raction,f.urier-transf.rm inf.ared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of.Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of.commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energy of.BOR at Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of.reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of.Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride f.el cell assembled with a Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specif.c power of.274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) were complemented by Df. calculations,which indicated good adherence of.Pt to MnV_(2)O_(6),benef.cial f.r electrocatalyst stability.

As sessile organisms, plants are exposed to pathogen invasions and environmental f.uctuations. To overcome the challenges of.their surroundings, plants acquire the potential to sense endogenous and exogenous cues, resulting in their adaptability. Hence, plants have evolved a large collection of.plasma membrane-resident receptors, including RECEPTOR-LIKE KINASEs(RLKs) and RECEPTOR-LIKE PROTEINs(RLPs) to perceive those signals and regulate plant growth,development, and immunity. The ability of.RLKs and RLPs to recognize distinct ligands relies on diverse categories of.extracellular domains evolved. Co-regulatory receptors are of.en required to associate with RLKs and RLPs to f.cilitate cellular signal transduction. RECEPTOR-LIKE CYTOPLASMIC KINASEs(RLCKs) also associate with the complex, bif.rcating the signal to key signaling hubs, such as MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE(MAPK) cascades, to regulate diverse biological processes. Here, we discuss recent knowledge advances in understanding the roles of.RLKs and RLPs in plant growth, development, and immunity, and their connection with co-regulatory receptors, leading to activation of.diverse intracellular signaling pathways.

Aqueous biphasic systems(ABS)are promising f.r proteins purif.cation;however,when dealing with samples comprising several proteins,the selectivity towards a target protein is dif.icult to *** this work,the addition of.ionic liquids(ILs)as adjuvants(5 wt%and 10 wt%)in ABS composed of.polyethylene glycol(PEG)and dextran was investigated to tailor proteins partitioning between the coexisting *** liquid-liquid phase diagrams were determined at 298 K,f.llowed by partition studies of.three proteins(bovine serum albumin(BSA),immunoglobulin G(IgG),and cytochrome C(Cyt C)).Partition coef.icients of.IgG and BSA indicate the pref.rence of.both proteins to the dextran-rich phase,whereas Cyt C has no pref.rential partitioning between the *** addition of.chloride-based ILs as adjuvants allows to increase or decrease the partition coef.icients,thus tailoring the proteins partitioning between the *** partitioning essentially depends on the IL content in each phase,whereas Cyt C and IgG partitioning is ruled by the ILs chemical structure and established *** docking was carried out to address the ILs ef.ect on the proteins partitioning,supporting experimental observations,while identif.ing the specif.c interactions *** partition of.each protein in polymer-salt ABS with ILs as adjuvants was determined,demonstrating the higher tailoring ability of.polymer-polymer ABS when adding ***,the partition of.each protein in presence of.the remaining ones was determined,as well as the selectivity of.the studied systems to separate each pair of.proteins,paving the way f.r their use in liquidliquid chromatography.

Introduction: Cochlear implant (CI) surgery allows hearing reestablishment among individuals with severe to prof.und hearing loss. However, only f.w patients will need a surgical reassessment. Objectives: To verif. the incidence of.surgical reassessment among adult patients;to verif. the reasons that led the second surgery to be perf.rmed;to verif. the ef.icacy—and audiological outcomes—of.revisional surgery. Method: A longitudinal retrospective cohort study was carried out with the review of.medical records, of.adult patients, with bilateral severe to prof.und sensorineural hearing loss who underwent to revisional surgery, f.om 2004 to 2016 at a CI Center, in Brazil. Results: One hundred f.f.y-eight CI surgeries were perf.rmed among 137 adult patients. f.urteen revisional surgeries were perf.rmed among 10 patients: f.ve surgeries were due by displacement of.the internal unit;one because of.having excessive subcutaneous tissue;one due to non-progression of.the electrodes during the initial surgery, one late tympanic membrane perf.ration, one late f.cial palsy and, one due to a suture dehiscence in the surgical incision with exposure of.the internal unit. Conclusions: The incidence of.surgical reassessment among adult CI patients was 8.9%. All implanted patients that underwent a new surgical approach maintained an improved auditory threshold af.er revisional CI surgery.

Skin is widely used as a drug delivery route due to its easy access and the possibility of.using relatively painless methods f.r the administration of.bioactive ***,the barrier properties of.the skin,along with its multilayer structure,impose severe restrictions on drug transport and ***,bioengineered models aimed at emulating the skin have been developed not only f.r optimizing the transdermal transport of.dif.erent drugs and testing the saf.ty and toxicity of.substances but also f.r understanding the biological processes behind skin *** though in vivo research is of.en pref.rred to study biological processes involving the skin,in vitro and ex vivo strategies have been gaining increasing relevance in recent ***,there is a noticeably increasing adoption of.in vitro and ex vivo methods by internationally accepted ***,microf.uidic organ-on-a-chip devices are nowadays emerging as valuable tools f.r f.nctional and behavioural skin *** in miniaturization,automation and reliability still need to be addressed in order to create skin models that can predict skin behaviour in a robust,high-throughput manner,while being compliant with regulatory issues,standards and *** this review,skin models f.r transdermal transport,wound repair and cutaneous toxicity will be discussed with a f.cus on high-throughput *** microf.uidic strategies driven by advancements in microf.brication technologies will also be revised as a way to improve the ef.iciency of.existing models,both in terms of.complexity and throughput.

Air pollution has become a critical issue in urban areas,so a broad understanding of.its spatiotemporal characteristics is important to develop public *** study analyzes the spatiotemporal variation of.atmospheric particulate matter(PM_(10) and PM_(2.5))and ozone(O_(3))in Barranquilla,Colombia f.om March 2018 to June 2019 in three monitoring *** average concentrations observed f.r the Móvil,Policía,and Tres Avemarías stations,respectively,f.r PM_(10):46.4,51.4,and 39.7μg/m^(3);f.r PM_(2.5):16.1,18.1,and 15.1μg/m^(3) and f.r O_(3):35.0,26.6,and 33.6μg/m^(3).The results indicated spatial and temporal variations between the stations and the pollutants *** highest PM concentrations were observed in the southern part of.the city,while f.r ozone,higher concentrations were observed in the *** variations are mainly associated with the inf.uence of.local sources in the environment of.each site evaluated as well as the meteorological conditions and transport patterns of.the study *** study also verif.ed the existence of.dif.erences in the concentrations of.the studied pollutants between the dry and rainy seasons and the contribution of.local sources as biomass burnings f.om the Isla Salamanca Natural Park and long-range transport of.dust particles f.om the Sahara *** study provides a scientif.c baseline f.r understanding air quality in the city,which enables policy makers to adopt ef.icient measures that jointly prevent and control pollution.

Clinical f.atures of.AIDS patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma with isolated bone marrow involvement:report of.12 cases at a single institution

Objective： To study the main clinical and histopathological f.atures of.12 patients with Hodgkin＇s lymphoma （HL） diagnosed primarily f.om bone marrow （BM） involvement. Methods： We included 12 acquired immunodef.ciency syndrome （AIDS） patients with HL assisted in the f. J. Muf.iz Inf.ctious Diseases Hospital since January 2002 to December 2013. The diagnosis of.ilL with primary BM involvement in patients was conf.rmed by clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical f.ndings. Results： All patients presented ＂B＂ symptoms and pancytopenia. All of.them had stage IV neoplasm disease because of.BM inf.ltration. The median of.CD4＋ T-cell counts was 114 cells/μL, and mixed cellularity （MC） was the most f.equent histopathological subtype of.92% cases. Conclusion： When other causes are excluded, BM biopsy should be perf.rmed in AIDS patients with ＂B＂ symptoms and pancytopenia to evaluate BM inf.ltration by atypical lymphocytes.
