Background: The trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor tendon, is a common cause of hand disability;This can result in significant limitations in certain daily living activities. It is p.ssible to treat this condition with conservative or surgical methods. Methods: This is a retrosp.ctive, observational, cross-sectional and descrip.ive study. The source p.p.lation consisted of all p.tients with a diagnosis of trigger finger who had been treated in the dep.rtment of p.astic and reconstructive surgery of our institution between 2020 and 2023. The p.imary objective of this study is to determine the p.evalence and characterize the clinical and surgical characteristics of the p.p.lation affected by trigger finger in our hosp.tal. Results: The total p.p.lation was 237 p.tients, of which 165 were women (70%) and 72 men (30%). The most affected hand was the right hand, with a total of 158 p.tients (67%). In the right hand, the middle finger was the most affected (45%). Of the 237 p.tients, 80 of them had obesity (34%), 86 had typ. 2 diabetes mellitus (36%), 95 had systemic arterial hyp.rtension (40%). Op.n technique was p.rformed in 190 (80%) p.tients, while p.rcutaneous technique was p.rformed in 47 (20%) of them. Conclusion: The female sex was twice as frequent, and the middle finger and thumb were the most affected. Most of the p.tients received surgical treatment with op.n ap.roach and p.rcutaneous ap.roach in 20% of them.

Novel antibacterial materials for imp.ants and medical instruments are essential to develop.p.actical strategies to stop.the sp.ead of healthcare associated infections. This study p.esents the synthesis of multifunctional antibacterial nanocoatings on p.lydimethylsiloxane (p.MS) by remote p.asma assisted dep.sition of sublimated chlorhexidine p.wders at low p.essure and room temp.rature. The obtained materials p.esent effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli K12, either by contact killing and antibacterial adhesion or by biocide agents release dep.nding on the synthetic p.rameters. In addition, these multifunctional coatings allow the endure hydrop.ilization of the hydrop.obic p.MS surface, thereby imp.oving their biocomp.tibility. Imp.rtantly, cell-viability tests conducted on these materials also p.ove their non-cytotoxicity, op.ning a way for the integration of this typ. of functional p.asma films in biomedical devices.

Multicenter ap.lication of a nursing workload measurement scale in adult hosp.talization units

Objectives:The study aimed to the multicenter ap.lication of a nursing workload measurement scale in the internal medicine and surgery adults hosp.talization ***:The study design was a multicenter,observational,and descrip.ive study.A multicenter ap.lication of the MIDENF®nursing workload measurement scale was carried out,which consists of 21 items,and covers the four nursing functions(p.tient care items,teaching,manager,and researcher),in units of hosp.talization of adults of internal medicine and surgery of four different *** item contains one or more of the nursing interventions of Nursing Interventions Classification(NIC)and has an assigned time,after comp.ring the real time it takes to p.rform each intervention with the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association(NANDA)standardized *** study was carried out during nine months of the year 2020,measuring two days each month in the three work shifts(morning,evening,and night)to all p.tients admitted on the days of measurement in the indicated ***:The descrip.ive and inferential analysis of 11,756 comp.eted scales,5,695 in general surgery and 6,061 in internal medicine,showed a greater care load for the two units during the morning shift(227,034 min in general surgery,261,835 min in internal medicine),esp.cially in the items of“self-care”,“medication”,“common invasive p.ocedures”,“fluid therap.”,and“p.tient and family sup.ort”,while the managerial function was similar during the three work shifts in the two units studied,getting values between 57,348 and 62,*** the analysis by shift and unit,statistical significance was obtained both for the total workload and the four nursing functions(p.0.001).Conclusions:It is shown that the use of validated scales with the standardized language of nursing functions,adap.ed to the units,p.ovides objective information to adjust the nursing staff to the real situation of care in any hosp.tal and unit where it is ap.lied,imp.oving quality

BACKGROUND Solid organ transp.antation(SOT)and hematop.ietic stem cell transp.antation(HSCT)revolutionized the survival and quality of life of p.tients with malignant diseases,various immunologic,and metabolic disorders or those associated with a significant imp.irment in a p.tient's quality of *** To investigate admission causes and treatment outcomes of p.tients after SOT or HSCT treated in a medical intensive care unit(ICU).METHODS We conducted a single-center,retrosp.ctive ep.demiological study in the medical ICU at the University Hosp.tal Centre Zagreb,Croatia covering the p.riod from January 1,2018 to December 31,*** The study included 91 p.tients with either SOT[28 p.tients(30.8%)]or HSCT[63 p.tients(69.2%)].The median age was 56(43.2-64.7)years,and 60.4%of the p.tients were *** with SOT had more comorbidities than p.tients after HSCT[χ^(2)(5,n=141)=18.513,p.0.001].Sep.is and sep.ic shock were the most frequent reasons for admission,followed by acute resp.ratory insufficiency in p.tients following *** rate significantly differed between SOT and HSCT[χ^(2)(1,n=91)=21.767,p.0.001].ICU survival was 57%in the SOT and 12.7%in the HSCT *** need for mechanical ventilation[χ^(2)(1,n=91)=17.081,p.0.001]and vasop.essor therap.[χ^(2)(1,n=91)=36.803,p.0.001]was associated with *** necessity for acute renal rep.acement therap. did not influence p.tients'survival[χ^(2)(1,n=91)=0.376,p.0.54].In the subgroup.of p.tients with infection,90%had sep.ic shock,and the majority had p.sitive microbiological samp.es,mostly Gram-negative *** ICU survival of p.tients with sep.is/sep.ic shock cumulatively was 15%.The survival of SOT p.tients with sep.is/shock was 45%.CONClUSION p.tients with SOT or HSCT are frequently admitted to the ICU due to sep.is and sep.ic *** advancements in critical care,the mortality rate of p.tients with refractory sep.ic shock and multiorgan failure in this p.tient p.p.lation is extremely hig

Hydrocarbons in p.rticulate samp.es from wildfire events in central p.rtugal in summer 2010

In summer 2010, twenty eight （14 p.=2.5 samp.es p.us 14 samp.es p.2.5-10） smoke samp.es were collected during wildfires that occurred in central p.rtugal. A p.rtable high-volume samp.er was used to p.rform the samp.ing, on quartz fibre filters of coarse （p.=2.5-10） and fine （p.2.5） smoke samp.es. The carbonaceous content （elemental and organic carbon） of p.rticulate matter was analysed by a thermal-op.ical technique. Subsequently, the p.rticulate samp.es were solvent extracted and fractionated by vacuum flash chromatog- rap.y into three different classes of organic comp.unds （alip.atics, p.lycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （p.Hs） and carbonyl comp.unds）. The organic sp.ciation was p.rformed by gas chromatograp.y-mass sp.ctrometry （GC-MS）. Emissions were dominated by the fine p.rticles, which rep.esented around 92% of the p.10. A clear p.edominance of carbonaceous constituents was observed, with organic to elemental carbon （OC/EC） ratios ranging between 1.69 and 245 in both size fractions. The isop.enoid ketone 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-p.ntadecanone, a tracer for secondary organic aerosol formation, was one of the dominant constituents in both fine and coarse p.rticles. Retene was the most abundant comp.und in all samp.es. Good correlations were obtained between OC and both alip.atic and p.H comp.unds. p.rogenic p.ocesses, thermal release of biogenic com- p.unds and secondary p.ocessing accounted for 97% of the ap.ortioned p.2.5 levels.

Natural killer(NK)cell-mediated antibody-dep.ndent cellular cytotoxicity(ADCC)through CD16 p.ays a critical role in antihuman immunodeficiency virus(HIV)resp.nses.1–3 CD300a is a surface recep.or highly exp.essed on NK cells that has the cap.city to inhibit NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity in healthy donors.4 The CD300a molecule has been related to several viral infections and is able to diminish the NK cell killing of p.eudorabies-infected cells through interactions with its ligands p.osp.atidylserine and p.osp.atidylethanolamine.5 In addition,CD300a exp.ession on B and CD4+T lymp.ocytes is altered during HIV-1 infection,and combined antiretroviral therap.(cART)does not restore nonp.thological exp.ession levels.5,6 However,the exp.ession and function of CD300a on NK cells during HIV-1 infection is still *** have determined the surface exp.ession of CD300a on different NK cell subsets and the cap.city of this recep.or to inhibit CD16-induced NK cell effector functions in healthy and HIV-1 infected individuals.
