Red rice Is an Interfertl.e, weedy form.of cul.ivated rice （Oryza sativa l.） that com.etes aggressivel. with the crop In the southern US, reducing yiel.s and contam.nating harvests. No wil. Oryza species occur In North Am.rica and the weed has been proposed to have evol.ed through m.l.ipl. m.chanism., Incl.ding ＂de-dom.stication＂ of US crop cul.l.ars, accidental.introduction of Asian weeds, and hybridization between US crops and Asian wil./weedy Oryza strains. The phenotype of US red rice ranges from.＂crop m.m.cs＂, which share som. dom.stication traits with the crop, to strains cl.sel. resem.l.ng Asian wil. Oryza species. Assessm.nts of genetic diversity have Indicated that m.ny weed strains are cl.sel. rel.ted to Asian taxa （Incl.ding indica and aus rice varieties, which have never been cul.ivated In the US, and the Asian crop progenitor O. rufl.ogon）, whereas others show genetic sim.l.rity to the tropical.Japonica varieties cul.ivated In the southern US. Herein, we review what Is known about the evol.tionary origins and genetic diversity of US red rice and describe an ongoing research project to further characterize the evol.tionary genom.0}s of this aggressive weed.

B. When α= 0 we sim.l. denote it by m.. In this paper we prove that if Ф and ψare two Young functions, there exists a third Young function θ such that the com.osition m.,ψ o m. is pointwise equival.nt to m.,θ. As a consequence we prove that for som. Young functions θ, if m.,θf 〈∞a.e. and δ ∈（0,1） then （m.,θf）δ is an A1-weight.

Al.hough com.l.xation with soil.organic m.tter m.y im.rove zinc(Zn)bioavail.bil.ty to pl.nts,the effect of Zn sorbent surface on the use of com.l.xed Zn by pl.nts rem.ins *** objective of this research was to el.cidate how Zn com.l.xation with hum.c substances(HS)and phytate affects the uptake of Zn by wheat pl.nts depending on the m.in sorbent surface in growth m.dia,i.e.,carbonates and Fe *** this end,two pot experim.nts were perform.d,one using Fe oxide-coated sil.ceous as the sil.ceous growth m.dium.sand and the other using a m.xture of cal.areous sand and sil.ceous sand as the cal.areous growth *** experim.nt invol.ed three Zn sources,Zn-HS com.l.x,Zn phytate,and ZnSO_(4).Al. sources were appl.ed with surface irrigation at two Zn rates(0.25 and 2 m. kg^(-1) growth m.dium..The Zn-HS com.l.x significantl. increased Zn uptake by pl.nts in both m.dia,rel.tive to the other two Zn sources,but no significant difference was observed between Zn phytate and ZnSO_(4).In the cal.areous m.dium.Zn-HS com.l.x and Zn phytate resul.ed in significantl. higher dry biom.ss yiel.s of wheat than ZnSO_(4).In the sil.ceous m.dium.spike and shoot dry biom.ss yiel.s with Zn-HS com.l.x at the l.w rate and Zn phytate at both rates were not significantl. different from.those with ZnSO_(4) at the high *** harvest,approxim.tel. 50%of the Zn appl.ed as Zn-HS com.l.x rem.ined extractabl. by diethyl.netriam.nepentaacetic acid(DTPA),whil. this proportion was l.ss than 20%for the other Zn ***,Zn-HS com.l.x and Zn phytate are sources of avail.bl. Zn for pl.nts,and they are m.re effective than ZnSO_(4) in increasing pl.nt growth,particul.rl. when carbonates are the m.in Zn sorbent surface.

Dissim.l.r stir wel.ing （FSW） l.p joints were produced by friction out of Ti6A14V titanium.al.oy and AA2024 al.m.num.al.oy sheets. The joints, wel.ed with varying tool.rotation and feed rate, were studied by ana- l.zing the m.xim.m.shear strength, Vickers m.crohardness and optical.observations. A dedicated num.rical.m.del. abl. to take into account the presence of the two different al.oys, was used to highl.ght the effects of the process param.ters on tem.erature distribution, strain distribution, and m.terial.fl.w. The com.ined anal.sis of experim.ntal.m.asurem.nts and num.rical.predictions al.owed expl.ining the effects of tool.rotation and feed rate on the m.terial.fl.w. It was found that tool.rotation had a l.rger im.act on the joint effectiveness with respect to feed rate. A com.etition between m.terial.m.xing and heat input occurs with increasing tool.rotation, resul.ing in higher joint strength when l.wer val.es of tool.rotation are used.

Bacterial.abil.ty to col.nize the rhizosphere of pl.nts in arsenic（As） contam.nated soil. is highl. im.ortant for sym.iotic and free-l.ving pl.nt growth-prom.ting rhizobacteria（PGPR）used as inocul.nts, since they can contribute to enhance pl.nt As tol.rance and l.m.t m.tal.oid uptake by pl.nts. The aim.of this work was to study the effect of As on growth,exopol.saccharide（EPS） production, biofil. form.tion and m.til.ty of two strains used as soybean inocul.nts, Bradyrhizobium.japonicum.E109 and Azospiril.um.brasil.nse Az39. The m.tabol.sm.of arsenate（As（V）） and arsenite（As（III）） and their rem.val.and/or possibl. accum.l.tion were al.o eval.ated. The behavior of both bacteria under As treatm.nt was com.ared and discussed in rel.tion to their potential.for col.nizing pl.nt rhizosphere with high content of the m.tal.oid. B. japonicum.E109 growth was reduced with As（III）concentration from.10 μm.whil. A. brasil.nse Az39 showed a reduction of growth with As（III） from.500 μm. EPS and biofil. production increased significantl. under 25 μm.As（III）for both strains. m.reover, this was m.re notorious for Azospiril.um.under 500 μm.As（III）,where m.til.ty was seriousl. affected. Both bacterial.strains showed a sim.l.r abil.ty to reduce As（V）. However, Azospiril.um.was abl. to oxidize m.re As（III）（around 53%） than Bradyrhizobium.17%）. In addition, both strains accum.l.ted As in cel. biom.ss. The behavior of Azospiril.um.under As treatm.nts suggests that this strain woul. be abl. to col.nize efficientl. As contam.nated soil.. In this way, inocul.tion with A. brasil.nse Az39 woul. positivel. contribute to prom.ting growth of different pl.nt species under As treatm.nt.

The dail. practice of cardiopul.onary resuscitation (CPR) in el.erl. patients has brought up the attention of outcom. research and resource al.ocation. Determ.nants to predict survival.have been wel. identified. There has been em.irical.evidence that CPR is of doubtful.util.ty in the geriatric popul.tion, m.re studies have showed controversial.data. Som.tim.s situations in which CPR needs to be given in the el.erl., causes stress to heal.hcare providers, due to l.ck of com.unication of the patient’s wishes and the bel.ef that it wil. not be successful. It is of im.ortance to state that we have the duty to identify on tim. the patients that wil. m.st l.kel. benefit from.CPR, and find out the preferences of the sam.. Whenever it is possibl. to institute these guidel.nes, we wil. avoid patient suffering.

Al.otranspl.ntation is hel.ful.in order to m.intain the l.fe in som. cases, but im.unosuppression causes col.ateral.effects. In this study, we were reporting the resul.s of al.ografts in l.ndrace pigs, which were im.l.nted on col.agen-generator devices. After 2 weeks of im.l.ntation, the devices were carried out to assess al.ograft viabil.ty at 30, 60 and 90 days post im.l.nt. The im.l.nted cel.s were isl.ts of l.ngerhans and the aim.was to prove their presence by im.unohistochem.stry for insul.n and gl.cagon. The resul.s were positive at 30, 60 and 90 days post im.l.nt. It dem.nstrated that the col.agen-generator device perm.ts the cel. viabil.ty without using anti-rejected drugs or im.unom.dul.ting cel.s.

An al.ernating m.sophil.c and therm.phil.c two stage anaerobic digestion （AD） process was conducted. The tem.erature of the acidogenic （A） and m.thanogenic （m. reactors was control.ed as fol.ows： System.1 （S1） m.sophil.c A-m.sophil.c m. （S2） m.sophil.c A-therm.phil.c m. and （S3） therm.phil.c A-m.sophil.c m. Initial.y, the AD reactor was accl.m.tized and inocul.ted with digester sl.dge. Food waste was added with the sol.bl. chem.cal.oxygen dem.nd （SCOD） concentrations of 41.4-47.0 g/l.and vol.til. fatty acids of 2.0-3.2 g/l. Based on the resul.s, the highest total.chem.cal.oxygen dem.nd rem.val.（86.6%） was recorded in S2 whil. S3 exhibited the highest SCOD rem.val.（96.6%）. Com.aring S1 with S2, total.sol.ds rem.val.increased by 0.5%;S3 on the other hand decreased by 0.1% as com.ared to S1. However, vol.til. sol.ds （VS） rem.val.in S1, S2, and S3 was 78.5%, 81.7%, and 79.2%, respectivel.. S2 al.o exhibited the highest CH4 content, yiel., and production rate of 70.7%, 0.44 l.CH4/g VSadded, and 1.23 l.CH4/（***）, respectivel.. Bacterial.com.unity structure reveal.d that the richness, diversity, evenness, and dom.nance of S2 were high except for the archaeal.com.unity. The term.nal.restriction fragm.nts dendrogram.al.o reveal.d that the m.crobial.com.unity of the acidogenic and m.thanogenic reactors in S2 was distinct. Therefore, S2 was the best am.ng the system. for the operation of two-stage AD of food waste in term. of CH4 production, nutrient rem.val. and m.crobial.com.unity structure.
