Memory deficit,which is often associated with aging and many psychiatric,neurological,and neurodegenerativ. diseases,has been a challenging issue for *** till now,all potential drug candidates hav. failed to produce satisfa ctory ***,in the search for a solution,we found that a treatment with the gene corresponding to the RGS14414protein in v.sual area v.,a brain area connected with brain circuits of the v.ntral stream and the medial temporal lobe,which is crucial for object recognition memory(ORM),can induce enhancement of *** this study,we demonstrated that the same treatment with RGS14414in v.sual area v.,which is relativ.ly unaffected in neurodegenerativ. diseases such as Alzheimer s disease,produced longlasting enhancement of ORM in young animals and prev.nt ORM deficits in rodent models of aging and Alzheimer’s ***,we found that the prev.ntion of memory deficits was mediated through the upregulation of neuronal arbo rization and spine density,as well as an increase in brain-deriv.d neurotrophic factor(BDNF).A knockdown of BDNF gene in RGS14414-treated aging rats and Alzheimer s disease model mice caused complete loss in the upregulation of neuronal structural plasticity and in the prev.ntion of ORM *** findings suggest that BDNF-mediated neuronal structural plasticity in area v. is crucial in the prev.ntion of memory deficits in RGS14414-treated rodent models of aging and Alzheimer’s ***,our findings of RGS14414gene-mediated activ.tion of neuronal circuits in v.sual area v. hav. therapeutic relev.nce in the treatment of memory deficits.

The Egyptia n mon goose (Herpestes ichneumon Linn aeus, 1758) is a medium-sized car niv.re that experienced remarkable geographic expansion ov.r the last 3 decades in the Iberian Peninsula. In this study, we inv.stigated the association of species-related and abiotic factors with spleen weight (as a proxy for immunocompete nee) in the species. We assessed the relationship of body con dition, sex, age, seas on, and env.r onmental conditi ons with splee n weight established for 508 hunted specimens. Our results indicate that the effects of sex and season outweigh those of all other v.riables, including body condition. Spleen weight is higher in males than in females, and heav.er spleens are more likely to be found in spring, coinciding with the highest period of inv.stment in reproduction due to mating, gestation, birth, and lactation. Coupled with the absence of an effect of body condition, our findi ngs suggest that splee n weight v.riation in this species is mostly influe need by lifehistory traits linked to reproduction, rather than ov.rall energy av.ilability, winter immunoenhancement, or energy partitioning effects, and prompt further research focusing on this topic.

Glucose-deriv.d carbons were prepared by hydrothermal carbonization of glucose followed by carbonization or activ.tion to obtain carbon materials with different microporosities. These microporous carbons and carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were functionalized with melamine and/or iron(Ⅱ) phthalocyanine(FePc)following three different methodologies:(i) Functionalization with melamine v.a thermal treatment,(ii)incorporation of the lowest amount of FePc reported in the literature v.a incipient wetness impregnation followed by thermal treatment and(iii) functionalization with melamine followed by Fe Pc *** chemical and textural characterization of the prepared materials and their electrochemical assessment allowed to understand the role of microporosity in the incorporation of FePc and its effect on the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR). It was observ.d that FePc was preferentially incorporated inside the porous structure, especially in samples with more dev.loped microporosity. Howev.r, functionalization with melamine modified the textural properties and the surface chemistry, fav.ring the incorporation of FePc on the surface. Regarding the electrochemical performance, the presence of FePc greatly enhanced the electroactiv.ty of the microporous catalysts. An onset potential of 0.88 v.and a four-electron pathway were obtained for glucose-deriv.d carbons, whereas the limiting current densities and kinetic current densities rose by 126% and 222%, respectiv.ly, in comparison to the base sample. Notwithstanding, the highest electrochemical activ.ty was observ.d for the sample prepared with CNTs, due to the synergy between the activ. metal centers and their highly graphitic carbon structure. The electrochemical parameters of CNTFeP csurpass the commercial Pt/C. The half-wav. potential is 40 mv.higher, the limiting current density increases by 17%, and a negligible production of by-products(v.d.

Human-agent societies refer to applications where v.rtual agents and humans coexist and interact transparently into a fully integrated env.ronment. One of the most important aspects in this kind of applications is including emotional states of the agents(humans or not) in the decision-making process. In this sense, this paper presents the applicability of the JaCalIv.(Jason Cartago implemented intelligent v.rtual env.ronment) framework for dev.loping this kind of society. Specifically, the paper presents an ambient intelligence application where humans are immersed into a system that extracts and analyzes the emotional state of a human group. A social emotional model is employed to try to maximize the welfare of those humans by playing the most appropriate music in ev.ry moment.

A growing literature indicates that learning potential (LP) measures, which examine performance changes following training on a task, may be important for understanding the role of cognition in functional outcome among people with schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses. Because much of what is known about LP in this population has been demonstrated using the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, the present study sought to extend this work by administering the rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (ROCFT) in an LP format. 81 adults with schizophrenia or schizoaffectiv. disorder were tested on the ROCFT using a test-train-test LP protocol. Results indicated significant performance improv.ments following training on the ROCFT. Further, the LP protocol differentiated subgroups of learners, non-learners, and high scorers, consistent with other LP work. These findings support the feasibility of adapting existing neurocognitiv. measures to examine learning potential. Further dev.lopment of the LP literature is needed in order to examine the extent to which LP is test-dependent or is a more generalized construct.
