AIM： To compare IOPen and ICare rebound tonometry to Goldmann applanation tonometry（GAT） according to International Stan.ards Organization（ISO） 8612 ***： Totally 191 eyes（n =107 individuals） were included. Criteria of ISO 8612 were fulfilled： 3 clusters of IOP, measured by GAT, were formed. The GAT results were given as mean±stan.ard ***： GAT（19.7±0.5 mm Hg） showed a significant correlation to ICare（19.8±0.5 mm Hg）（r =0.547, P 〈0.001）and IOPen（19.5 ±0.5 mm Hg）（r =0.526, P 〈0.001）.According to ISO 8612 criteria in all 3 IOP groups the number of outliers（of the 95% limits of agreement）exceeded 5% for ICare and IOPen vs GAT： No.1（n =68）29.4% and 22.1%, No.2（n =62） 35.5% and 37.1%, No.3（n =61） 26.2% and 42.6%, ***： The strict requirements of the ISO 8612 are not fulfilled in a glaucoma collective by ICare and IOPen at present. As long as the Goldmann tonometry is applicable it should be used first of all for reproducible IOP readings. ICare and IOPen tonometry should be considered as an.alternative tool, if application of Goldmann tonometry is not possible.

Glutathione is an important antioxidant and has many important functions in plant development, growth and defense. Glutathione synthesis and degradation is highly compartment-specific and relies on the subcellular availability of its precursors, cysteine, glutamate, glycine and γ-glutamylcysteine especially in plastids and the cytosol which are considered as the main centers for glutathione synthesis. The availability of glutathione precursors within these cell compartments is therefore of great importance for successful plant development and defense. The aim of this study was to investigate the compartmentspecific importance of glutathione precursors in Arabidopsis thaliana. The subcellular distribution was compared between wild type plants （Col-0）, plants with impaired glutathione synthesis （glutathione deficient pad2-1 mutant, wild type plants treated with buthionine sulfoximine）, and one complemented line （OE3） with restored glutathione synthesis. Immunocytohistochemistry revealed that the inhibition of glutathione synthesis induced the accumulation of the glutathione precursors cysteine, glutamate and glycine in most cell compartments including plastids and the cytosol. A strong decrease could be observed in γ-glutamylcysteine （γ-EC） contents in these cell compartments. These experiments demonstrated that the inhibition of γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase （GSH1） - the first enzyme of glutathione synthesis - causes a reduction of γ-EC levels and an.accumulation of all other glutathione precursors within the cells.

The realization of lossless metasurfaces with true chirality crucially requires the fabrication of three-dimensional structures,constraining experimental feasibility and hampering practical *** though the threedimensional assembly of metallic nanostructures has been demonstrated previously,the resulting plasmonic resonances suffer from high intrinsic and radiative *** concept of photonic bound states in the continuum(bICs)is instrumental for tailoring radiative losses in diverse geometries,especially when implemented using lossless dielectrics,but applications have so far been limited to planar ***,we introduce a novel nanofabrication approach to unlock the height of individual resonators within all-dielectric metasurfaces as an.accessible parameter for the efficient control of resonance features and nanophotonic *** particular,we realize out-of-plane symmetry breaking in quasi-bIC metasurfaces and leverage this design degree of freedom to demonstrate an optical all-dielectric quasi-bIC metasurface with maximum intrinsic chirality that responds selectively to light of a particular circular polarization depending on the structural *** experimental results not only open a new paradigm for all-dielectric bICs and chiral nanophotonics,but also promise advances in the realization of efficient generation of optical angular momentum,holographic metasurfaces,and parity-time symmetry-broken optical systems.

While total internal reflection(TIR)lays the foundation for many important applications,foremost fibre optics that revolutionised information technologies,it is undesirable in some other applications such as light-emitting diodes(LEDs),which are a backbone for energy-efficient light *** the case of LEDs,TIR prevents photons from escaping the constituent high-index *** in material science have led to good efficiencies in generating photons from electron–hole pairs,making light extraction the bottleneck of the overall efficiency of *** recent years,the extraction efficiency has been improved,using nanostructures at the semiconductor/air interface that outcouple trapped photons to the outside ***,the design of geometrical features for light extraction with sizes comparable to or smaller than the optical wavelength always requires sophisticated and timeconsuming fabrication,which causes a gap between lab demonstration and industrial-level *** by lightning bugs,we propose and realise a disordered metasurface for light extraction throughout the visible spectrum,achieved with single-step *** applying such a cost-effective light extraction layer,we improve the external quantum efficiency by a factor of 1.65 for commercialised GaN LEDs,demonstrating a substantial potential for global energy-saving and sustainability.

Alleviation of Drought Stress in Arabidopsis thaliana by 17β-Estradiol Application

Animal steroidal hormones, including estrogens, are being introduced into the agricultural soil and water supply from increased pharmaceutical and farm waste. Considering the current levels of xenoestrogen contamination of plant environments in view of the climate change induced drought conditions, this study was designed to understand the effect of estradiol (ES) application on Arabidopsis drought stress responses. Estradiol treatment (10 nM, 100 nM) of plants subjected to drought stress conditions by withholding water for 7 days resulted in increased tolerance to drought stress reflected in the significantly higher plant survival rates of 74% and 78%, respectively compared to control plants’ survival rates of 36% (no treatment) and 40% (mock treatment). Estradiol application significantly increased the content of glutathione, proline and Hb>2b>Ob>2b> and significantly enhanced the transcription of the stress responsive genes GSTU3, GER5, HSP101, and HSP70b. A high concentration of ES (10 μM) did not protect plants against drought stress and proved to be toxic. These results provide new insight into the effect of ES on drought-stress responses in Arabidopsis with possible practical agricultural applications regarding the effect of environmental estrogens on crop plants.

Inhibitory neurotransmission ensures normal brain function by counteracting and integrating excitatory activity.-Aminobutyric acid (GAbA) is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system,and mediates its effects via two classes of receptors:the GAbA A and GAbA b *** A receptors are heteropentameric GAbA-gated chloride channels and responsible for fast inhibitory *** b receptors are heterodimeric G protein coupled receptors (GPCR) that mediate slow and prolonged inhibitory *** extent of inhibitory neurotransmission is determined by a variety of factors,such as the degree of transmitter release and changes in receptor activity by posttranslational modifications (e.g.,phosphorylation),as well as by the number of receptors present in the plasma membrane available for signal *** level of GAbA b receptors at the cell surface critically depends on the residence time at the cell surface and finally the rates of endocytosis and *** this review we focus primarily on recent advances in the understanding of trafficking mechanisms that determine the expression level of GAbA b receptors in the plasma membrane,and thereby signaling strength.

目的　探讨超低出生体重 (ELbW )儿减少红细胞输注的可能性。方法　对 1989～ 1997年 9年间 2 5 6例超低出生体重儿的红细胞输注进行临床分析。在此期间红细胞输注指征进行了 3次制订 ,对检验样本的采血量进行了严格的控制 ,部分病例应用了重组人促红细胞生成素治疗。结果　 1994年以后有 1/ 4的ELbW儿不需要输注红细胞 ,1989～ 1997年平均输血次数由 7次降至 2 7次 (P bW儿更加不成熟 ,平均胎龄由 2 7 4周减至 2 6 0周 ,平均出生体重由 833g降至 741g。存活率仍达 78% ,住院时间没有延长 ,严重并发症如视网膜病、动脉导管未闭、脑室出血的发生率没有增加。结论　制订严格的红细胞输注指征有助于减少输血次数和接受供血者人数。

For a long time, it was considered medical malpractice to neglect the blood group system during transplan.ation. because there are far more patients waiting for organs than organs available, a variety of attempts have been made to transplant Ab0-incompatible(Ab0i) grafts. Improvements in Ab0 i graft survival rates have been achieved with immunosuppression regimens and plasma treatment procedures. Nevertheless, some grafts are rejected early after Ab0 i living donor liver transplan.ation(LDLT) due to antibody mediated rejection or later biliary complications that affect the quality of life. Therefore, the Ab0 i LDLT is an option only for emergency situations, and it requires careful planning. This review compares the treatment possibilities and their effect on the patients' graft outcome from 2010 to the present. We compared 11 transplant center regimens and their outcomes. The best improvement, next to plasma treatment procedures, has been reached with the prophylactic use of rituximab more than one week before Ab0 i LDLT. Unfortunately, no stan.ardized treatment protocols are available. Each center treats its patients with its own scheme. Nevertheless, the transplant results are homogeneous. Due to refined treatment strategies, Ab0 i LDLT is a feasible option today and almost free of severe complications.
