Satellite Image Classification Using a Hybrid Manta Ray Foraging Optimization Neural Network

A semi supervised image classification method for satellite images is proposed in this paper.The satellite images contain enormous data that can be used in various applications.The analysis of the data is a tedious task due to the amount of data and the heterogeneity of the data.Thus,in this paper,a Radial Basis Function Neural Network(RBFNN)trained using Manta Ray Foraging Optimization algorithm(MRFO)is proposed.RBFNN is a three-layer network comprising of input,output,and hidden layers that can process large amounts.The trained network can discover hidden data patterns in unseen data.The learning algorithm and seed selection play a vital role in the performance of the network.The seed selection is done using the spectral indices to further improve the performance of the network.The manta ray foraging optimization algorithm is inspired by the intelligent behaviour of manta rays.It emulates three unique foraging behaviours namelys chain,cyclone,and somersault foraging.The satellite images contain enormous amount of data and thus require exploration in large search space.The spiral movement of the MRFO algorithm enables it to explore large search spaces effectively.The proposed method is applied on pre and post flooding Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager(OLI)images of New Brunswick area.The method was applied to identify and classify the land cover changes in the area induced by flooding.The images are classified using the proposed method and a change map is developed using post classification comparison.The change map shows that a large amount of agricultural area was washed away due to flooding.The measurement of the affected area in square kilometres is also performed for mitigation activities.The results show that post flooding the area covered by water is increased whereas the vegetated area is decreased.The performance of the proposed method is done with existing state-of-the-art methods.

The richness and diversity of protein rich fermented foods are chiefy observed in many Asian countries.They are potential source of wide range of biologically active peptides depending on the protein source and starter culture used for fermentation.The major protein rich fermented foods popularly consumed in Asian countries include fermented soybean,fermented milk and fermented fsh products.These foods are fermented using diferent starter cultures including lactic acid bacteria(LAB),Bacillus species,yeast and flamentous fungi.Fermentation by individual starter culture results in unique products by a series of enzymatic hydrolysis,leading to production of a diversity of bioactive peptides responsible for health benefts.Bioactive peptides in Asian protein rich fermented foods have been reported for exhibiting antihypertensive,antioxidant,antibacterial,antidiabetic and anticancer properties.This review is focused on Asian protein rich fermented foods,associated microbes and bioactive peptides responsible for health benefts.

Consumption of insects as food has a long history and has been documented by many researches.Globally,it is extensively practiced in Africa,Asia,Australia,and Latin America as traditional food providing nutritional,economic and ecological benefit for rural communities.In today’s world,edible insects are limelight by many researchers and industrialist due to the presence of enormous nutrient potential as well as bioactive compounds.This review mainly focuses on the potential of edible insect for its diverse nutraceutical properties,production and processing as a functional food and its acceptance and boost in the market trends in global scenario.The consumption of edible insects is purely based on ethnic traditional knowledge of the local communities.Previous studies on edible insects have shown their potential as source of nutraceuticals with promote health benefit and can be an alternative source of protein.Most of the edible insects are rich source of protein,energy,vitamins,essential fatty acids and minerals.Beyond these insects can be a source of bioactive compounds especially peptides,which can be applied in functional food industry.In many countries,the traditional knowledge of entomophagy is being applied for production of value-added products using modern technology.

Bioactive peptides are released during the production of fermented dairy,vegetables,fruits,legumes,fish,and meat prod-ucts.The proteolytic specificity of lactic acid bacteria,Bacillus spp.,yeasts,and mold,apart from their ability to synthesize bioactive peptides,plays an important role in the generation of specific bioactive peptides in traditional fermented foods.Controlled fermentation using defined starter strains has been explored for the development of bioactive peptides enriched novel fermented foods with potential functionality.Bioactive peptides enriched foods exert diverse health benefits,such as antioxidant,antihypertensive,antidiabetic,and immunomodulatory effects.Bioactive peptides can be used as alternatives to synthetic compounds due to negligible side effects and high valuation in the nutraceutical and functional food market.However,challenges associated with the identification,quantification,organoleptic properties,and bioavailability of bioac-tive peptides need to be addressed before exploiting the potential of bioactive peptides in the functional food industry.In the present review,we have discussed the production of bioactive peptides in diverse fermented foods.Structural and sequence specificity of peptides and their effect on the expression of distinct health beneficial effects have been described.The potential of utilizing these bioactive peptides for the development of novel functional fermented foods is discussed.Recent advances in peptide identification,quantification,debittering of peptides,and increasing peptide bioavailability have been explained.

The antioxidative,antimicrobial,and anti-inflammatory properties of fermented sheep milk with L.fermentum (KGL4),as well as the generation of antioxidative and antimicrobial peptides,are evaluated in the study.Antioxidative and antibacterial activities in sheep milk fermented with KGL4 increased with incubation hours,along with varied antioxidative properties (ABTS assay:35.12%,hydroxyl free radical scavenging assay:29.12%,superoxide free radical scavenging activity:36.38%).Antimicrobial activity of fermented sheep milk against E.faecalis (19 mm),S.typhimurium (15.67 mm),B.cereus (14 mm),and E.coli (13 mm) was also observed.Furthermore,after 48 h,the KGL4 showed maximum proteolysis (10.40 mg/ml) at 2.5% rate of addition sheep milk.The antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of fermented sheep milk fractions (3 kDa and 10 kDa permeates and retentates) were also investigated.The highest ABTS activity (26.90%) was found in 10 kDa permeate,whereas the 3 kDa retentate had higher hydroxyl free radical scavenging activity (69.20%) and 3 kDa permeate showed maximum superoxide free radical scavenging activity (32.85%).The 10 kDa retentate had shown maximum antimicrobial activity against S.typhimurium (13.67 mm) and E.faecalis (17.00 mm).Proteins spotted on 2D gel electrophoresis of KGL4 were varied from 10 to 70 kDa.RP-LC/MS was used to identify 5 novel peptide sequences from 2-D gel spots.Searches in the BIOPEP database confirmed the antioxidative and antimicrobial effects of the novel fermented sheep milk peptides.Fermented sheep milk with KGL4 (SMKGL4) significantly reduced excessive TNF-α,IL-6,& IL-1β production in LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cells.

Constructing a biofunctionalized 3D-printed gelatin/sodium alginate/chitosan tri-polymer complex scaffold with improvised biological andmechanical properties for bone-tissue engineering

Sodium alginate(SA)/chitosan(CH)polyelectrolyte scaffold is a suitable substrate for tissue-engineering application.The present study deals with further improvement in the tensile strength and biological properties of this type of scaffold to make it a potential template for bone-tissue regeneration.We experimented with adding 0%–15%(volume fraction)gelatin(GE),a protein-based biopolymer known to promote cell adhesion,proliferation,and differentiation.The resulting tri-polymer complex was used as bioink to fabricate SA/CH/GEmatrices by three-dimensional(3D)printing.Morphological studies using scanning electron microscopy revealed the microfibrous porous architecture of all the structures,which had a pore size range of 383–419μm.X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analyses revealed the amorphous nature of the scaffold and the strong electrostatic interactions among the functional groups of the polymers,thereby forming polyelectrolyte complexes which were found to improve mechanical properties and structural stability.The scaffolds exhibited a desirable degradation rate,controlled swelling,and hydrophilic characteristics which are favorable for bone-tissue engineering.The tensile strength improved from(386±15)to(693±15)kPa due to the increased stiffness of SA/CH scaffolds upon addition of gelatin.The enhanced protein adsorption and in vitro bioactivity(forming an apatite layer)confirmed the ability of the SA/CH/GE scaffold to offer higher cellular adhesion and a bone-like environment to cells during the process of tissue regeneration.In vitro biological evaluation including the MTT assay,confocal microscopy analysis,and alizarin red S assay showed a significant increase in cell attachment,cell viability,and cell proliferation,which further improved biomineralization over the scaffold surface.In addition,SA/CH containing 15%gelatin designated as SA/CH/GE15 showed superior performance to the other fabricated 3D structures,demonstrating its potential for use in bone-tissue engineering.

Clinical outcomes of triceps reflecting anconeus pedicle and olecranon osteotomy approach for distal humerus intercondylar fractures

BACKGROUND The preferred treatment for distal humeral intercondylar fractures is open reduction and internal fixation.While there is consensus about the posterior approach,several posterior approaches have been developed.It is debatable as to which approach is best.AIM To compare triceps reflecting anconeus pedicle(TRAP)and olecranon osteotomy approaches for internal fixation of distal humeral intercondylar fracture.METHODS In total,40 cases of Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen/Association of the Study of Internal Fixation type C,closed,and Gustilo type I intercondylar humeral fractures were included.Patients ranged in age from 18 years to 70 years.The patients were randomized into two groups:TRAP group and olecranon osteotomy group,with 20 cases in each.All were followed up at 6 wk,3 months,6 months,and 12 months.Functional outcomes were measured in terms of flexion-extension arc,Disabilities of Arm,Shoulder and Hand score,and Mayo Elbow Performance Score.RESULTS The mean age was 43.2 years in the TRAP group and 37.5 years in the olecranon osteotomy group.The mean operative time and mean duration of hospital stay in the TRAP group were significantly higher than in the olecranon osteotomy group(119.5 vs 111.5 min and 9.85 vs 5.45 d,respectively).The mean arc of flexion-extension,Disabilities of Arm,Shoulder and Hand score,and Mayo Elbow Performance Score were comparable without any significant difference in the groups at the 12-month follow-up(107.0 vs 106.2,18.3 vs 15.7,and 84.2 vs 86.2,respectively).Ulnar paresthesia and superficial infections were comparable in both groups(2 cases vs 3 cases and 3 cases vs 2 cases,respectively).Hardware prominence was significantly higher in the olecranon osteotomy group,mostly due to tension band wiring.CONCLUSION Both approaches were equivalent,but there is a need for further study including higher numbers of subjects and longer study duration to prove the benefits of one approach over the other.

Transcranial direct current stimulation as early augmentation in adolescent obsessive compulsive disorder:A pilot proof-of-concept randomized control trial

BACKGROUND Transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)is proven to be safe in treating various neurological conditions in children and adolescents.It is also an effective method in the treatment of OCD in adults.AIM To assess the safety and efficacy of tDCS as an add-on therapy in drug-naive adolescents with OCD.METHODS We studied drug-naïve adolescents with OCD,using a Children’s Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale(CY-BOCS)scale to assess their condition.Both active and sham groups were given fluoxetine,and we applied cathode and anode over the supplementary motor area and deltoid for 20 min in 10 sessions.Reassessment occurred at 2,6,and 12 wk using CY-BOCS.RESULTS Eighteen adolescents completed the study(10-active,8-sham group).CY-BOCS scores from baseline to 12 wk reduced significantly in both groups but change at baseline to 2 wk was significant in the active group only.The mean change at 2 wk was more in the active group(11.8±7.77 vs 5.25±2.22,P=0.056).Adverse effects between the groups were comparable.CONCLUSION tDCS is safe and well tolerated for the treatment of OCD in adolescents.However,there is a need for further studies with a larger sample population to confirm the effectiveness of tDCS as early augmentation in OCD in this population.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has caused changes in the global health system,causing significant setbacks in healthcare systems worldwide.This pandemic has also shown resilience,flexibility,and creativity in reacting to the tragedy.The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection targets most of the respiratory tract,resulting in a severe sickness called acute respiratory distress syndrome that may be fatal in some individuals.Although the lung is the primary organ targeted by COVID-19 viruses,the clinical aspect of the disease is varied and ranges from asymptomatic to respiratory failure.However,due to an unorganized immune response and several affected mechanisms,the liver may also experience liver cell injury,ischemic liver dysfunction,and drug-induced liver injury,which can result in respiratory failure because of the immune system’s disordered response and other compromised processes that can end in multisystem organ failure.Patients with liver cirrhosis or those who have impaired immune systems may be more likely than other groups to experience worse results from the SARS-CoV-2 infection.We thus intend to examine the pathogenesis,current therapy,and consequences of liver damage concerning COVID-19.

Persistent gastritis induced by Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is the strongest known risk factor for gastric cancer(GC).H.pylori is prevalent in about 50%world's population,while it causes cancer in less than 2%of exposed individuals.1 Our studies found that H.pylori infection can induce oncogenic properties in AGS cells by deregulating multiple factors associated with the cell cycle,apoptosis,and other important events associated with cancer progression.
