Cloud computing infrastructure has been evolving as a cost-effective platform for providing computational resources in the form of high-performance computing as a service(HPCaaS)to users for executing HPC ***,the broader use of the Cloud services,the rapid increase in the size,and the capacity of Cloud data centers bring a remarkable rise in energy consumption leading to a significant rise in the system provider expenses and carbon emissions in the *** this,users have become more demanding in terms of Quality-of-service(QoS)expectations in terms of execution time,budget cost,utilization,and *** situation calls for the design of task scheduling policy,which ensures efficient task sequencing and allocation of computing resources to tasks to meet the trade-off between QoS promises and service provider ***,the task scheduling in the Cloud is a prevalent NP-Hard *** by these concerns,this paper introduces and implements a QoS-aware Energy-Efficient Scheduling policy called as CSPSO,for scheduling tasks in Cloud systems to reduce the energy consumption of cloud resources and minimize the makespan of *** proposed multi-objective CSPSO policy hybridizes the search qualities of two robust metaheuristics *** search(CS)and particle swarm optimization(PSO)to overcome the slow convergence and lack of diversity of standard CS algorithm.A fitness-aware resource allocation(FARA)heuristic was developed and used by the proposed policy to allocate resources to tasks efficiently.A velocity update mechanism for cuckoo individuals is designed and incorporated in the proposed CSPSO ***,the proposed scheduling policy has been implemented in the CloudSim simulator and tested with real supercomputing workload *** comparative analysis validated that the proposed scheduling policy can produce efficient schedules with better performance over other well-known heuristics and meta-heuristic

Package Coupling Measurement in Object-Oriented Software

The grouping of correlated classes into a package helps in better organization of modern object-oriented software. The quality of such packages needs to be measured so as to estimate their utilization. In this paper, new package coupling metrics are proposed, which also take into consideration the hierarchical structure of packages and direction of connections among package elements. The proposed measures have been validated theoretically as well as empirically using 18 packages taken from two open source software systems. The results obtained from this study show strong correlation between package coupling and understandability of the package which suggests that proposed metrics could be further used to represent other external software quality factors.

Recently,I read with interest the research article entitled'Dysfunction of the adhesion G protein-coupled receptor latrophilin 1(ADGRL1/LPHN1)increases the risk of obesity published in Signal Transduction and Targeted *** report confirms and extends our findings that ADGRL1(aka latrophilin 1)regulates energy balance and glucose homeostasis.?Using affinity chromatography coupled with proteomics and electrophysiology,we showed that ADGRL1 is likely a glucose receptor in the *** findings demonstrated that lack of ADGRL1 in the hypothalamus or whole-body causes obesity and features of type 2 diabetes in *** is refreshing to see Dietzsch et al.i reached the same conclusion.

Effect of orientation on the drag of a cone settling in a Bingham plastic fluid

Effects of the orientation and apex angle on the settling velocity of conical particles in Bingham plas-tic fluids are numerically investigated over a Reynolds number range of 1 ≤Re ≤100, Bingham number range of 0 ≤ Bn ≤ 100, and cone angle range of 20 ≤α≤ 150°. Governing equations (of continuity and momentum) are solved numerically using the finite element method to obtain velocity and pressure fields that are postprocessed to obtain values of the drag ***, the effect of cone ori-entation on the flow field is visualized and explored in terms of streamline contours and the morphology of yielded/uny ielded regions. Finally, the obtai ned values of drag are correlated via a simple predictive expression in terms of the modified Reynolds number. The effect of the cone angle on drag is found to be moderate because the drag force acting on the lateral surface is a small fraction of the overall drag.

Prognostic significance of red blood cell distribution width in gastrointestinal disorders

The red blood cell distribution width(RDW) is a routinely measured and automatically reported blood parameter,which reflects the degree of anisocytosis. Recently,the baseline RDW was found to have clinical significance for assessing clinical outcome and severity of various pathological conditions including cardiovascular diseases,sepsis,cancers,leukemia,renal dysfunction and respiratory diseases. A myriad of factors,most of which ill-defined,have an impact on the red cell population dynamics(i.e.,production,maturation and turnover). A delay in the red blood cell clearance in pathological conditions represents one of the leading determinants of increased anisocytosis. Further study of RDW may reveal new insight into inflammation mechanisms. In this review,we specifically discuss the current literature about the association of RDW in various disease conditions involving the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary systems. We also present some of the related measurements for their value in predicting clinical outcomes in such conditions. According to our data,RDW was found to be a valuable prognostic index in gastrointestinal disorders along with additional inflammatory biomarkers(i.e.,C reactive protein,erythrocyte sedimentation rate,and platelet count) and current disease severity indices used in clinical practice.

A proximity-induced covalent fluorescent probe for selective detection of bromodomain 4

Lysine acetylation is one of the most prevalent and important posttranslational modifications(PTMs) in proteins. The process can be recognized by bromodomains(BRDs), which are a class of proteininteraction modules involved in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional activation. The development of BRD fluorescent probes will be useful for monitoring the activity of BRDs in living cells as well as aiding inhibitor development. Herein we designed a peptide-based probe based on the proximity-induced protein conjugation reaction. The peptide-based probe is capable of covalently and selectively reacting with the unique cysteine residue in the bromodomain through proximity effect. Our experimental data showed that the probe displayed noticeable fluorescence response upon addition of BRD4(1). In-gel fluorescence scanning demonstrated that BRD4(1) can be covalently labelled by the probe. Moreover, the probe was shown to selectively detect BRD4(1) over other proteins. We envision that the probe developed in this study will provide a useful tool to further investigate the biological roles of BRDs.

Identification of SNP and InDel variations in the promoter and 5′ untranslated regions of γ-tocopherol methyl transferase(ZmVTE4) affecting higher accumulation of α-tocopherol in maize kernel

Deficiency of vitamin-E or tocopherol causes neurological and cardiovascular disorders in humans. Though maize kernel is rich in total tocopherol, the level of α-tocopherol possessing the highest vitamin-E activity is low. Mutant allele of ZmVTE4 with deletion of 7 bp and 118 bp (0/0: most favorable haplotype) in 5′UTR and promoter region, respectively significantly enhances α-tocopherol in maize kernel than wild type haplotype (7/118).α- tocopherol estimation in 15 diverse inbreds revealed that mean α-/γ-tocopherol and α-/ total-tocopherol was much higher in genotypes with favorable haplotype (1.51 and 0.41) than unfavorable class (0.19 and 0.13), respectively. However even within favorable class,α- tocopherol ranged from 4.76 to 30.07 μg g 1. Sequence analysis of part of 5′UTR and promoter of ZmVTE4 among the genotypes with favorable haplotype revealed 14 SNPs (SNP1 to SNP14) and eight InDels (InDel1 to InDel8). SNP7 at 606 bp (G to A), and InDels viz., InDel1 (27 bp), InDel4 (27 bp) and InDel8 (14 bp) differentiated low and high α-tocopherol accumulating inbreds with favorable haplotype. Hence the newly identified SNP and InDels in addition to the already reported InDels can be useful in selection of favorable genotypes with higher α-tocopherol in maize.
