Vitamin D receptor polymorphism and prostate cancer prognosis

Background:Prostatic epithelial cells synthesize the active form of vitamin D(1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3),which participates in regulating prostate ***,a synthetic form of vitamin D3,exhibits antiproliferative and prodifferentiation activities in prostate *** function of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 is mediated by its binding to vitamin D receptor(VDR).VDR forms a heterodimer,typically with retinoid X receptor,to regulate vitamin D target *** evaluated the relationship between VDR polymorphism and clinical characteristics associated with prostate cancer risk and prognosis among Egyptian *** and methods:This case-control study included 2 groups of patients:group A,a control group of 50 subjects with benign prostate hyperplasia,and group B,50 subjects newly diagnosed with prostate *** participants performed complete blood count,liver and kidney function tests,prostate specific antigen measurement,histopathological analysis and immunohistochemistry for Dickkopf Homolog *** fragment length polymorphism-polymerase chain reaction as performed to detect VDR ***:Patients with prostate cancer and controls showed a significantly different CA genotype frequency(p=0.007).Furthermore,prostate-specific antigen levels were significantly different in different genotypes in patients with prostate cancer(pstage and the VDRApal C/A polymorphism were significantly associated(psion:The VDRApal C/A polymorphism may be a diagnostic and prognostic marker for prostate cancer in Egyptian men.

Fragility assessment of wood sheathing panels and roof-to-wall connections subjected to wind loading

The performance of the wood-frame buildings after tornadoes has shown that the majority of the wind damage resulted from building envelope failure most typically due to the loss of the *** assess the performance and the reliability of low-rise wood-frame residential buildings with a focus on the roofs,fragility analysis can be used to estimate the probability of failure of a roof when constructed with specified nails and sheathing ***,this paper examines the fragility of specific types of nails,roof-to-wall(RW)connection details,and sheathing sizes based on the damaged roofs that were previously assessed in the Dunrobin area in Ottawa(Ontario)that was hit with an Enhanced Fujita(EF3)tornado on september 21,*** presented fragility analysis considers four scenarios,including different sheathing and nail *** loads,wind loads,and resistance on the sheathing panels were compiled and analyzed to determine the failure of the examined *** eight fragility models suggest that the safest roof sheathing(Rs)is the 1.22 m×1.22 m sheathing panel with 8 d nails,and the safest RW connections is achieved by using H2.5 hurricane clips.

Recent advances in thin film composites membranes for brackish groundwater treatment with critical focus on saskatchewan water sources

Drinking water scarcity is an ever-increasing global concern. This issue appears as a greater threat to the countries with no access to sea water resources or rivers, since their potential water resources are only limited to ground waters only. There are serious concerns with the treatment of ground water resources, including landfill leachates, agricultural contaminations(pesticides,herbicides, and fertilizers), and rural contaminations. Membrane separation has been proved to be the governing technology in water and wastewater treatment plants, as these methods are responsible for more than half of the market share of the world's desalination capacity. This study intends to offer a holistic view of the groundwater contamination with specific focus on saskatchewan province in Canada, and the recent efforts in the groundwater treatment using thin film composite membrane technology. This study begins with an introduction of the general aspects of ground water and membrane separation, polluting agents, and their *** is followed by a discussion of saskatchewan's groundwater status and various ***, the recent research that became available since 2010 is reviewed in details and the results are summarized with respect to purification efficiency. Different affecting parameters in a groundwater-thin film composite system are synthesized and an in-depth overview is presented.

Host immune cellular reactions in corneal neovascularization

Corneal neovascularization（CNV） is a global important cause of visual impairment. The immune mechanisms leading to corneal heme- and lymphangiogenesis have been extensively studied over the past years as more attempts were made to develop better prophylactic and therapeutic measures. This article aims to discuss immune cells of particular relevance to CNV, with a focus on macrophages, Th17 cells, dendritic cells and the underlying immunology of common pathologies involving neovascularization of the cornea. Hopefully, a thorough understanding of these topics would propel the efforts to halt the detrimental effects of CNV.

This paper deals with minimization problems in the calculus of variations set in a sequence of domains, the size of which tends to infinity in certain directions and such that the data only depend on the coordinates in the directions that remain constant. The authors study the asymptotic behavior of minimizers in various situations and show that they converge in an appropriate sense toward minimizers of a related energy functional in the constant directions.

A Transfer Learning-Enabled Optimized Extreme Deep Learning Paradigm for Diagnosis of COVID-19

Many respiratory infections around the world have been caused by ***-19 is one of the most serious coronaviruses due to its rapid spread between people and the lowest survival *** is a high need for computer-assisted diagnostics(CAD)in the area of artificial intelligence to help doctors and radiologists identify COVID-19 patients in cloud *** learning(ML)has been used to examine chest X-ray *** this paper,a new transfer learning-based optimized extreme deep learning paradigm is proposed to identify the chest X-ray picture into three classes,a pneumonia patient,a COVID-19 patient,or a normal ***,three different pre-trainedConvolutionalNeuralNetwork(CNN)models(resnet18,resnet25,densenet201)are employed for deep feature ***,each feature vector is passed through the binary Butterfly optimization algorithm(bBOA)to reduce the redundant features and extract the most representative ones,and enhance the performance of the CNN *** selective features are then passed to an improved Extreme learning machine(ELM)using a BOA to classify the chest X-ray *** proposed paradigm achieves a 99.48%accuracy in detecting covid-19 cases.

A Novel siamese Network for Few/Zero-shot Handwritten Character Recognition Tasks

Nationwide seroprevalence, spatial distribution and risk factors of Leishmania in Jordan

Objective:To explore the seroprevalence,spatial distribution and risk factors for Leishmania seropositivity in ***:Blood samples from 872 apparently healthy participants were randomly selected from 11 governorates in Jordan and tested for anti-Leishmania K39 *** factors(animal ownership and agriculture practices)and demographic data were also collected using pre-tested and validated ***:Overall,2.52% of participants were seropositive for Leishmania *** living in the Jordan Valley plateau had significantly greater odds(adjusted odds ratio= 3.70,95% CI 1.37-9.93)of seropositivity than those living in the Highlands after adjustment for ***:This study supports the intermittent reports of cutaneous leishmaniasis outbreaks in the Jordan *** control measures in the Jordan Valley should be considered,including insecticide treated bed nets,sugar baits and using flowering plants to attract and trap Phlebotomus papatasi sand *** surveillance in the Jordan Valley is also recommended in light of this and other reports.
