Characterization of CdZnTeSe Nuclear Detector Chemically Etched in Bromine Methanol

Semiconductor nuclear radiation detectors made from tertiary and quaternary compounds of cadmium telluride (CdTe) can operate at room temperature without cryogenic cooling. One of such materials that have become of great interest is cadmium zinc telluride selenide (CdZnTeSe). Compared to other CdTe-based materials, such as cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe), CdZnTeSe can be grown with much less Te inclusions and sub-grain boundary networks. Chemical etching is often used to smoothen wafer surfaces during detector fabrication. This paper presents the characterization of CdZnTeSe that is chemically etched using bromine methanol solution. Infrared imaging shows that the wafer has no sub-grain boundary networks that often limit detector performance. The current-voltage (I-V) characterization experiment gave a resistivity of 4.6 × 1010 Ω-cm for the sample. The I-V curve was linear in the ±10 to ±50 volts range. An energy resolution of 7.2% was recorded at 100 V for the 59.6-keV gamma line of 241Am.

Synthesis and Physicochemical Characterization of Biodegradable Star-Shaped Poly Lactide-Co-Glycolide-<i>β</i>-Cyclodextrin Copolymer Nanoparticles Containing Albumin

The purposes of this research were to synthesize and characterize star-shaped poly lactide-co-glycolide-β-cyclo-dextrin (PLGA-β-CD) copolymer by reacting L-lactide, glycolide and β-cyclodextrin in the presence of stannous octoate as a catalyst. The structure of PLGA-β-CD copolymer was confirmed with 1h-NMR, 13C-NMR and FT-IR spectra. Albumin as a model peptide drug was encapsulated within nanoparticles made of PLGA-β-CD with a modified double emulsion method. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photomicrographs showed that the nanoparticles have the mean diameter within the range of 80 - 210 nm. Also they were almost spherical in shape. Effects of the experimental parameters, such as copolymer composition, copolymer concentration, and reaction temperature, on particular size and encapsulation efficiency were investigated.

Rubber band ligation for 750 cases of symptomatic hemorrhoids out of 2200 cases

AIM: To study the results for the treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoids using rubber band ligation (RBL) method. METhODS: A retrospective study for 750 patients who came to the colorectal unit from June, 1998 to September, 2006, data was retrieved from archived fi les. RBL was performed using the Mc Gown applicator on an outpatient basis. The patients were asked to return to out-patient clinic for follow up at 2 wk, 1 mo, 6 mo and through telephone call every 6 mo for 2 years). RESULTS: After RBL, 696 patients (92.8%) were cured with no difference in outcome for second or third degree hemorrhoids (P = 0.31). Symptomatic recurrence was detected in 11.04% after 2 years. A total of 52 patients (6.93%) had 77 complications from RBL which required no hospitalization. Complications were pain, rectal bleeding and vaso-vagal symptoms(4.13%, 4.13% and 1.33% of patients, respectively). At 1 mo there were a significant improvement in mean SF-36 scores over baseline in five items, while after 2 years there were improvement in all items over baseline, but not significant. No significant manometeric changes after band ligation. CONCLUSION: RBL is a simple, safe and effective method for treating symptomatic second and third degree hemorrhoids as an out patient procedure with signifi cant improvement in quality of life. RBL doesn't alter ano-rectal functions.

Promising effect of Magliasa, a traditional Iranian formula, on experimental colitis on the basis of biochemical and cellular findings

AIM: To investigate the efficacy of Magliasa, a traditional Iranian formula, on experimental colitis. METhODS: After botanical authentication of herbal ingredients, formulation of Magliasa, quantitative determination of total glucosinolates and total phenolic content, and analysis of the thin layer chromatography profile were performed. Colitis was then induced in male rats by instillation of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) in all groups, aside from the Sham *** experimental groups consisted of: the Sham group that received only normal saline; the Mag-50, Mag-100 and Mag-200 groups, which received 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg per day of Magliasa, respectively; the control group, which received vehicle water orally; the infliximab group, which received infliximab (5 mg/kg per day, subcutaneously); and the Dexa group, which received dexamethasone (1 mg/kg per day, orally). After completing the treatment period (2 wk), the rats were sacrificed, the colon was removed, its macroscopic and microscopic changes were recorded, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (il-1b), total antioxidant capacity, myeloperoxidase (MPO), and lipid peroxidation (LPO) were assessed in colon ***: The mean value of total glucosinolates in one gram of Magliasa was 19 ± 1 μmol. The mean value of the total phenolic content was 293.8 ± 17.6 mg gallic acid equivalents per 100 gram of Magliasa. Macroscopic scores were significantly decreased in Mag-100 (1.80 ± 0.58, P = 0.019) and Mag-200 (1.20 ± 0.20, P = 0.001) compared to the control group (3.40 ± 0.24), although some inflammation and hyperemia were evident. Treatment of rats by dexamethasone (0.33 ± 0.21, P here mild hyperemia was observed macroscopically. Background and Objectives: The main benefits of laparoscopic surgery in comparison to open surgery involve the rapid discharge from recovery room, decreased postoperative hospital stays, reduced postoperative discomfort, easier getting back to work and faster return to ordinary daily life as well as cosmetic surgical wounds. The anesthesia type has an essential role in attenuation of the surgical stress and achievement of these advantages. We aimed to determine the outcome of giving general anesthesia in conjunction with thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) compared to general anesthesia alone on stress response to surgery and anesthesia by investigating cytokine reaction (interleukin 6 and 8 levels), hemodynamic changes (BP, HR, RR, SPO2), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores postoperatively in patients subjected for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: This study included 40 patients aged 20 - 60 years old with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status (ASA) I and II. They were planned for laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Aswan University Hospital from April 2017 to March 2018. They were randomly allocated into two groups. Group A (n. 20) received general anesthesia only and Group B (n. 20) received general anesthesia in conjunction with thoracic epidural analgesia using fentanyl and bupivacaine in the epidural catheter. Beneficial effect of butyrate, Lactobacillus casei and L-carnitine combination in preference to each in experimental colitis

AIM: To investigate the beneficial effect of the combination of butyrate, Lactobacillus casei, and L-carnitine in a rat colitis ***: Rats were divided into seven groups. Fourgroups received oral butyrate, L-carnitine, Lactobacillus casei and the combination of three agents for 10 consecutive days. The remaining groups included negative and positive controls and a sham group. Macroscopic, histopathological examinations, and biomarkers such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α) and interlukin-1β(il-1β), myeloperoxidase(MPO), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS), and ferric reduced ability of plasma(FRAP) were determined in the ***: The combination therapy exhibited a significant beneficial effect in alleviation of colitis compared to controls. Overall changes in reduction of TNF-α(114.66 ± 18.26 vs 171.78 ± 9.48 pg/mg protein, P il-1β(24.9 ± 1.07 vs 33.06 ± 2.16 pg/mg protein, P he preference of the combination therapy in comparison to controls. Although the monotherapies were also effective in improvement of colitis markers, the combination therapy was much better in improvement of colon oxidative stress markers including FRAP, TBARS, and ***: The present combination is a suitable mixture in control of experimental colitis and should be trialed in the clinical setting.

目的:探讨不同颈椎终板准备方法对颈椎人工椎间盘置换术后金属-骨界面刚度的影响,了解终板准备方法与人工椎间盘假体稳定性的关系。方法:取6具新鲜成人尸体颈椎标本,分离出C3～T1共35个椎体(1例C6～C7融合),剔除每个椎体上下面的椎间盘组织,显露出骨性终板,分为:去终板组17个,完全去除骨性终板;保留终板组18个,完整保留骨性终板。在所有椎体的上面安放相应大小的颈椎人工椎间盘(ProDisc-C)后用MTS-858生物力学实验机进行疲劳测试和屈服测试,得到金属-骨界面的刚度、位移和最大屈服压力,从其中1具颈椎标本取出4个椎体(每组各2个)切片行hE染色后用光镜观察金属-骨性界面。结果:疲劳前测试金属-骨界面刚度去终板组为1470±180N/mm,高于保留终板组的1260±170N/mm(P<0.0001);疲劳后测试两组刚度均有上升,去终板组刚度为1990±110N/mm,仍高于保留终板组的1680±140N/mm(P<0.0001)。疲劳前测试两组的终板位移分别为0.45±0.09mm和0.41±0.10mm,无显著性差异(P=0.15),疲劳后测试去终板组位移0.53±0.12mm小于保留终板组的0.66±0.14mm(P=0.005)。去终板组最大屈服压力为1110±350N,略小于保留终板组的1250±230N,但无显著性差异(P=0.27)。组织切片显示去终板组金属-骨界面贴合良好,而保留终板组金属-骨界面有明显的缝隙。结论:不同的终板准备方法会影响到假体金属-骨界面的刚度和稳定性。去终板组金属-骨界面的刚度和稳定性优于保留终板组,良好的金属-骨界面接触是颈椎人工椎间盘假体稳定的关键因素之一。

Thermosensetive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-based magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by free radical polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPPAMs), methacrylic acid (MAA), and vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) in the presence of methylene-bis-acrylamide as cross linking agent. The Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticls were prepared by chemical precipitation of Fe salts in the ratio of 1:2 under alkaline and inert condition. Thermosensitive crosslinked P (NI-PAAM-MAA-VP) copolymers were characterized by FT-IR and h-NMR. The ph and thermosensitive copolymer was used for preparation of drug loaded magnetic nanoparticles, and doxorubicin (DOX) was used as a typical anticancer drug. The amount of the loaded drug and drug release amount were determined by UV measurements. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) were used to determine the particle surface morphology and the phase transition temperature of the nanoparticles respectively. The release behavior of DOX at ph = 7.4 and 37°C was studied. The result indicated that this thermosensetive magnetic nanoparticle has a high drug loading capacity and favorable linear release property for DOX without initial burst release. Thus this system is promising for the application in targeted smart anticancer drug delivery.
