Nano zinc oxide （ZnO） is a very useful and important material in many industrial and biological applications. In the present work, ZnO was synthesized by post thermal degradation of the precursor ＂zinc acetate di-hydrate＂ templated in crosslinked polyacrylic acid （PAA）. The crosslinked PAA template was prepared through an in-situ polymerization process adopted in presence of ammonium per sulphate, as an initiator, and N, Nt- methylene bis-acrylamide as the crosslinker. Variation of preparation parameters and their impact on the oxide stoichiometry, crystal structure, crystallite size and surface texture of the oxide were investigated. Energy dispersive X-ray technique （EDX）, X-ray diffraction （XRD） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） were convincingly used to reveal the oxide structural features and characteristics. The performed bioassay tests indicated the efficacy of this method of preparation to produce nano ZnO with novel insecticidal activity against the greater wax moth, Galleria rnellonella.

Tympanometry Comparison of Diabetic Type I and Diabetic Type II Rats

Hearing impairment affects over two-thirds of adults with diabetes. We investigated whether rat models of type 1 and type 11 diabetes display impaired auditory function. Tympanometry measurements were conducted in Sprague-Dawley rats (control, n = 20), streptozotocin-induced type I diabetic Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 20) at 42 - 56 days old;Zucker rats (Hos: ZFDM-Lean (fa/+, n = 20) and Zucker Type 2 Diabetic rats (ZFDM (Hos: ZFDM-fa/fa);n = 20)), 90 days old. All rats were male. Control animals had normal type A tympanograms. Tweny one (75%) of the tympanic membranes in the diabetic type I group produced abnormal tympanograms: 46% were type B, 28% had no peak found, and 1% were type C. The ear canal measurements were lower in the left ear in type I mice (0.19 ± 0.07) and higher in the left ear for type II mice (0.23 ± 0.15 ml) compared to the controls of 0.39 ± 0.14 ml) and (0.2 ± 0.12 ml) respectively (P < 0.0001). The compliances for the right ear and left ear were lower for the type II diabetic group (0.18 ± 0.05 ml) and (0.18 ± 0.05 ml) compared to the control group (0.28 ± 0.19 ml) and (0.28 ± 0.49 ml) (P < 0.0001) respectively. In conclusion, control rats exhibited type A tympanograms with a highly functional middle ear system. Diabetic type I rats (n = 20) mostly exhibited type B tympanograms with a less compliant middle ear system. Compliance was reduced in the diabetic type I and II animals compared to the control. Future studies should utilise histological methods alongside tympanometry. Sections of the middle ear could be used to analyze ossicle size and confirm size differences. This information would be useful in avenues for treatment options for hearing loss in diabetes.

AIM: To report the intraoperative complications associated with small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE) and their management. METHODS: This was a retrospective consecutive interventional clinical study, carried out on patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism, who underwent SMILE procedure. Type of intraoperative complications and their management were recorded. RESULTS: Our study comprised 282 eyes of 141 patients who were enrolled for SMILE surgeries. The intraoperative complications included lost vacuum(18 eyes, 6.38%), treatment decentration(6 eyes, 2.12%), wound bleeding(21 eyes, 7.45%), incomplete bubble separation(black islands)(3 eyes, 1.06%), the epithelial defects(15 eyes, 5.32%). Incision tear(27 eyes, 9.57%), lenticule adherence to the cap(6 eyes, 2.12%), and cap perforation occurred in 2 eyes(0.7%). CONCLUSION: Although SMILE is a promising technique for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism with predictable, efficient, safe refractive and visual outcomes, complications can occur. However, most of them are related to inexperience and are included in the learning curve of the technique. More studies with a bigger number of eyes are required to efficiently evaluate the intraoperative complications and standardize their management strategies.

Dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs) secrete neurotrophic factors which may play an important therapeutic role in neural development, maintenance and repair. To test this hypothesis, DPSCs-conditioned medium(DPSCs-CM) was collected from 72 hours serum-free DPSCs cultures. The impact of DPSCs-derived factors on PC12 survival, growth, migration and differentiation was investigated. PC12 cells were treated with nerve growth factor(NGF), DPSCs-CM or co-cultured with DPSCs using Transwell inserts for 8 days. The number of surviving cells with neurite outgrowths and the length of neurites were measured by image analysis. Immunocytochemical staining was used to evaluate the expression of neuronal markers NeuN, microtubule associated protein 2(MAP-2) and cytoskeletal marker βIII-tubulin. Gene expression levels of axonal growth-associated protein 43 and synaptic protein Synapsin-I, NeuN, MAP-2 and βIII-tubulin were analysed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR). DPSCs-CM was analysed for the neurotrophic factors(NGF, brain-derived neurotrophic factor [BDNF], neurotrophin-3, and glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor [GDNF]) by specific ELISAs. Specific neutralizing antibodies against the detected neurotrophic factors were used to study their exact role on PC12 neuronal survival and neurite outgrowth extension. DPSCs-CM significantly promoted cell survival and induced the neurite outgrowth confirmed by NeuN, MAP-2 and βIII-tubulin immunostaining. Furthermore, DPSCsCM was significantly more effective in stimulating PC12 neurite outgrowths than live DPSCs/PC12 co-cultures over the time studied. The morphology of induced PC12 cells in DPSCs-CM was similar to NGF positive controls;however, DPSCs-CM stimulation of cell survival was significantly higher than what was seen in NGF-treated cultures. Development of New Submergence Tolerant Rice Variety for Bangladesh Using Marker-Assisted Backcrossing

Submergence tolerant high yielding rice variety was developed using BR11 as a recipient parent applying foreground, phenotypic and background selection approaches. Recombinant selection was found essential to minimize linkage drag by BC2F2 generation. Without recombinant selection, the introgression size in the backcross recombinant lines （BRLs） was approximately 15 Mb on the carrier chromosome. The BRLs were found submergence tolerance compared to the check varieties under complete submergence for two weeks at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, and produced higher yield compared to the isogenic Subl-line under controlled submerged condition. The BRL IR85260-66-654-Gaz2 was released as BRRI dhan52 in 2010, which was the first high yielding submergence tolerant variety in Bangladesh. BRRI dhan52 produced grain yield ranging from 4.2 to 5.2 t/hm2 under different flash flood prone areas of Bangladesh in three consecutive seasons. The study demonstrated the efficiency of recombinant selection and better adaptability of the newly released submergence tolerant high yielding variety in flash flood prone different areas of the country with respect to submergence tolerance and yield potential.

One hundred twenty-five endophytic microorganisms were isolated from the roots,stems,and leaves of four prominent rice cultivars growing in temperate *** potential to combat rice blast disease and promote plant growth was *** dual culture tests highlighted the strong antagonistic activity of five fungal(ranging from 89%–70%)and five bacterial(72%–61%)*** examination focused on volatile compounds produced by selected isolates to counter the blast *** these,the highest chitinase(13.76μg mL−1)and siderophore(56.64%),was exhibited by Aspergillus flavus,and the highest HCN production was shown by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia(36.15μM mL−1).In terms of growth promotion traits,Aspergillus flavus and Enterobacter cloacae excelled in activities viz,phosphorous solubilization,ammonia production,auxin and gibberellic acid production,and nitrogen *** Identity of these endophytes was confirmed through molecular analysis as Trichoderma afroharzianum,Trichoderma harzianum,Penicillium rubens,Aspergillus flavus,Stenotrophomonas rhizophila,Stenotrophomonas maltophilia,Bacillus cereus,Enterobacter cloacae,and Bacillus *** greenhouse conditions,the highest disease control was shown by isolate Bacillus licheniformis and *** with an inhibition of 79%,followed by ***(77%)and ***(73%).The overall results of this study showed that Bacillus licheniformis and Stenotrophomonas rhizophila have great potential to be used as bio-stimulant and biocontrol agents to manage rice blast disease.

Five triorganotin（IV）（1-5） complexes of cinnamic acid, （Z）-2-acetamido-3-phenylacrylic acid, 3-methylbut-2-enoic acid, and 2,2-diphenylacetic acid have been synthesized and characterized by IH-13C-119Sn NMR, UV, and IR. The spectroscopic investigation demonstrated that the carboxylate group acts as a monodentate ligand in triorganotin（IV） compounds. Five triorganotin（IV） complexes were screened against the log phase culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv by colorimetric method using XTT dye as growth indicator. The MICs were found to he 0.08 and 1.25μg/mL.

The treatment of *** infections has become more difficult due to the emergence of multidrugresistant *** study aimed to evaluate antimicrobial resistance patterns and detect different types of beta-lactamase genes among MDR and non-MDR Klebsiella pneumoniae in various clinical samples.A total of 150 Klebsiella pneumoniae were identified from different clinical samples by conventional microbiological *** sensitivity was detected by the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion ***-spectrum betalactamase,Metallo-β-lactamase,and carbapenemase were phenotypically detected by double-disk synergy test,combined disk assay,and modified Hodge *** also detected differentβlactamase genes and virulence *** majority of Klebsiella pneumoniae were multi-drug resistant(82%).The bacteria were found resistant to mostβ-lactam antibiotics,aminoglycosides,ciprofloxacin,cotrimoxazole,carbapenem,piperacillin,and ***,only about 0.7%colistin resistance was observed.A double-disk synergy test was performed among the isolates for phenotypic detection of ESBL producing Klebsiella *** 16.6%of isolates were found to be ESBL ***β-lactamase genes,NDM(23.34%),OXA-48(8%),and KPC(7.3%)were *** prevalentβlactamase genes VIM and IMP were not *** summary,the prevalence of MDR Klebsiella pneumoniae is high in Bangladesh,which may complicate the treatment of hospitalized patients.
