In addition to the loss of motor function,~60% of patients develop pain after spinal cord *** cellular-molecular mechanisms are not well understood,but the data suggests that plasticity within the rostral,epicenter,and caudal penumbra of the injury site initiates a cellularmolecular interplay that acts as a rewiring mechanism leading to central neuropathic *** can lead to the formation of new connections triggering abnormal sensory *** excitatory glutamate transporters are responsible for the reuptake of extracellular glutamate which makes them a critical target to prevent neuronal hyperexcitability and *** previous studies showed a sexually dimorphic therapeutic window for spinal cord injury after treatment with the selective estrogen receptor modulator *** this study,we investigated the anti-allodynic effects of tamoxifen in male and female rats with spinal cord *** hypothesized that tamoxifen exerts anti-allodynic effects by increasing the expression of glutamate transporters,leading to reduced hyperexcitability of the secondary neuron or by decreasing aberrant *** and female rats received a moderate contusion to the thoracic spinal cord followed by subcutaneous slow-release treatment of tamoxifen or matrix pellets as a control(placebo).We used von Frey monofilaments and the“up-down method”to evaluate mechanical *** treatment decreased allodynia only in female rats with spinal cord injury revealing a sexdependent *** expression profile of glutamatergic transporters(excitatory amino acid transporter 1/glutamate aspartate transporter and excitatory amino acid transporter 2/glutamate transporter-1)revealed a sexual dimorphism in the rostral,epicenter,and caudal areas of the spinal cord with a pattern of expression primarily on *** rodents showed a significantly higher level of excitatory amino acid transporter-1 expression while male rodents showed increased

Investigating the UV-excess in Star Clusters with n-body Simulations:Predictions for Future CSST Observations

We study the origin of the UV-excess in star clusters by performing n-body simulations of six clusters with n = 10 k and n = 100 k(single stars & binary systems) and metallicities of Z = 0.01, 0.001 and 0.0001, using PETAR. All models initially have a 50% primordial binary fraction. Using Galev nB we convert the simulated data into synthetic spectra and photometry for the China Space Station Telescope(CSST) and Hubble Space Telescope(HST). From the spectral energy distributions we identify three stellar populations that contribute to the UVexcess:(1) second asymptotic giant branch stars, which contribute to the UV flux at early times;(2) naked helium stars and(3) white dwarfs, which are long-term contributors to the FUV spectra. Binary stars consisting of a white dwarf and a main sequence star are cataclysmic variable(CV) candidates. The magnitude distribution of CV candidates is bimodal up to 2 Gyr. The bright CV population is particularly bright in FUV-nUV. The FUV-nUV color of our model clusters is 1–2 mag redder than the UV-excess globular clusters in M87 and in the Milky Way. This discrepancy may be induced by helium enrichment in observed clusters. Our simulations are based on simple stellar evolution;we do not include the effects of variations in helium and light elements or multiple stellar populations. A positive radial color gradient is present in CSST nUV-y for main sequence stars in all models with a color difference of 0.2–0.5 mag, up to 4 half-mass radii. The CSST nUV-g color correlates strongly with HST FUV-nUV for nUV-g > 1 mag, with the linear relation FUV-nUV =(1.09 ± 0.12) ×(nUV-g) +(-1.01 ± 0.22). This allows for conversion of future CSST nUV-g colors into HST FUV-nUV colors, which are sensitive to UV-excess features. We find that CSST will be able to detect UVexcess in Galactic/extragalactic star clusters with ages >200 Myr.

nature of light scalars through photon-photon collisions

The surprising thing is that arising almost 50 years ago from the linear sigma model （LSM） with spontaneously broken chiral symmetry, the light scalar meson problem has become central in the nonperturbative quantum chromodynamics （QCD） for it has been made clear that LSM could be the low energy realization of QCD. First we review briefly signs of four-quark nature of light scalars. Then we show that the light scalars are produced in the two photon collisions via four-quark transitions in contrast to the classic P wave tensor qq mesons that are produced via two-quark transitions γγ→qq. Thus we get new evidence of the four-quark nature of these states.

Gate-Dependent nonlinear Hall Effect at Room Temperature in Topological Semimetal GeTe

We experimentally investigate nonlinear Hall effect as zero-frequency and second-harmonic transverse voltage responses to ac electric current for topological semimetal GeTe.A thick single-crystal GeTe flake is placed on the Si/SiO_(2) substrate,where the p-doped Si layer serves as a gate *** confirm that electron concentration is not gate-sensitive in thick GeTe flakes due to the gate field screening by bulk *** contrast,by transverse voltage measurements,we demonstrate that the nonlinear Hall effect shows pronounced dependence on the gate electric field at room *** the nonlinear Hall effect is a direct consequence of a Berry curvature dipole in topological media,our observations indicate that Berry curvature can be controlled by the gate electric *** experimental observation can be understood as a result of the known dependence of giant Rashba splitting on the external electric field in *** possible applications,the zero-frequency gate-controlled nonlinear Hall effect can be used for the efficient broad-band rectification.

neutrino mixing matrix and masses from a particular two-zero texture based on A_(4) symmetry

The current study aims to investigate the particular case of two zeros in a Majorana neutrino mass matrix based on A_(4) symmetry,where charged lepton mass matrix is *** texture is M_(ν)^(S7) with(μ,μ)and(τ,τ)vanishing element of the neutrino mass *** texture M_(ν)^(S7) has magic and μ−τsymmetry,with a tribimaximal form of the mixing matrix,which leads to θ_(13)=0 that it is not consistent with experimental data and at first,does not seem to be *** θ_(13) a small mixing angle compared to others neutrino mixing angles justifies the use of perturbation *** propose that,θ_(13),and the Dirac phase δ,and two Majorana phases ρ and σ could be generated by using a complex symmetric perturbation mass matrix in the mass basis and find that δm^(2)≡m_(2)^(2)-m_(1)^(2)≠0affect to the atmospheric mixing *** show that only the predictions of the case I,with Δnd Re(α)nsistent with the experimental ***,the allowed range of our parameter space and complex elements of perturbation mass matrix are found,which led to finding the allowed region of the neutrino masses,the Majorana phases,the effective neutrino mass for the neutrinoless double beta decay,the allowed deviation of θ_(23) from 45°,and to predict the normal neutrino mass *** predicted region of and θ_(23) are in line with the current experimental data which indicate the accuracy of our model and its *** results of the case II,with Δ>0 and Re(α)>0,are ruled out.

This paper considers the processes of activation in ground subsidence movements in flooding mine workings of mines being liquidated in two districts in Donetsk city on the area of more than 60km^2. A concept is given to build up control network of geomechanical monitoring in conditions of existing old mining operations at shallow depths (down to 100m), strong damages of objects of urban building. Given are GPS network structure, layouts for location of basic and local profile lines, special control stations for monitoring ground subsidence movements over the territory of mines being flooded. Results of the series of observations made are discussed and their accuracy is analyzed.

OH and O radicals production in atmospheric pressure air/Ar/H_2O gliding arc discharge plasma jet

Atmospheric pressure air/Ar/H_2O gliding arc discharge plasma is produced by a pulsed dc power supply. An optical emission spectroscopic（OES） diagnostic technique is used for the characterization of plasmas and for identifications of OH and O radicals along with other species in the plasmas. The OES diagnostic technique reveals the excitation Tx？≈？5550–9000 K, rotational Tr？≈？1350–2700 K and gas Tg？≈？850–1600 K temperatures, and electron density n？（1.1-1.9） ′101 4 cm^（-3） e under different experimental conditions. The production and destruction of OH and O radicals are investigated as functions of applied voltage and air flow rate. Relative intensities of OH and O radicals indicate that their production rates are increased with increasing Ar content in the gas mixture and applied voltage. nereveals that the higher densities of OH and O radicals are produced in the discharge due to more effective electron impact dissociation of H_2O and O_2 molecules caused by higher kinetic energies as gained by electrons from the enhanced electric field as well as by enhanced n *** productions of OH and O are decreasing with increasing air flow rate due to removal of Joule heat from the discharge region but enhanced air flow rate significantly modifies discharge maintenance properties. Besides, Tgsignificantly reduces with the enhanced air flow rate. This investigation reveals that Ar plays a significant role in the production of OH and O radicals.

First isolation of glutinol and a bioactive fraction with good antiinflammatory activity from n-hexane fraction of Peltophorum africanum leaf

Objective: To investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of different fractions and glutinol(isolated compound),using nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase(COX) inhibition as an indication of anti-inflammatory activity,Methods: Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using an in vitro assay determining the inhibition of the activity of pro-inflammatory enzyme model,Cyclooxygenases and inducible nitric oxide synthase are crucial enzymes involved in the pathogenesis of many chronic inflammatory conditions,Results: Sub-fraction F3.3 that was derived from n-hexane fraction of PA leaves significantly inhibited(P = 0.01) the catalytic activity of COX-2(IC50 = 0.67 μg/m L) better than isolated compound,glutinol(IC50 = 1.22 μg/m L),compound 2(CP2)(IC50 = 1.71 μg/m L) and sub-fraction F3.3.0(IC50 = 1.30 μg/m L),A similar trend was observed in investigation of the inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis in RAW 264.7 cells by F3.3,glutinol,CP2 and F3.3.0,Inducible COX-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase are among potent signalling enzymes that exacerbate inflammation,Conclusions: Bioactive sub-fractions(F3.3 and F3.3.0) derived from the n-hexane fraction of PA had good anti-inflammatory activity,and the isolated compound,and glutinol may be useful as a template for the development of new anti-inflammatory drugs.
