Com.rehensive analysis of glacier recession(2000-2020)in the Nun-Kun Group of Glaciers,Northwestern Him.laya

Him.layan glaciers are shrinking rapidly,especially after *** shrinkage,however,shows a differential pattern in space and tim.,em.hasizing the need to m.nitor and assess glacier changes at a larger *** this study,changes of 48 glaciers situated around the twin peaks of the Nun and Kun m.untains in the northwestern Him.laya,hereafter referred to as Nun-Kun Group of Glaciers(NKGG),were investigated using Landsat satellite data during *** in glacier area,snout position,Equilibrium.Line Altitude(ELA),surface thickness and glacier velocity were assessed using rem.te sensing data supplem.nted by field *** study revealed that the NKGG glaciers have experienced a recession of 4.5%±3.4%and their snouts have retreated at the rate of 6.4±1.6 m.a^(-1).Additionally,there was a 41%increase observed in the debris cover area during the observation *** the geodetic approach,an average glacier elevation change of-1.4±0.4 m.a^(-1)was observed between 2000 and *** observed m.ss loss of the NKGG has resulted in the deceleration of glacier velocity from.27.0±3.7 m.a^(-1)in 2000 to 21.2±2.2 m.a^(-1)in *** ELA has shifted upwards by 83.0±22 m.during the *** m.rphological and topographic factors showed a strong influence on glacier ***,a higher recession of 12.9%±3.2%was observed in sm.ll glaciers,com.ared to 2.7%±3.1%in larger *** debris-covered glaciers showed lower shrinkage(2.8%±1.1%)com.ared to the clean glaciers(9.3%±5%).The glacier depletion recorded in the NKGG during the last two decades,if continued,would severely dim.nish glacial volum. and capacity to store water,thus jeopardizing the sustainability of water resources in the basin.

Cerium.Oxide Nanoparticles Protect against Oxaliplatin Induced Testicular Dam.ge: Biochem.cal, Histological, Im.unohistochem.cal, and Genotoxic Study

Oxaliplatin is a chem.therapeutic drug used for colorectal cancer treatm.nt. The testicular toxic effect is one of its recorded toxicities which resulted in a few studies. Oxidative stress could be a direct cause of this testicular toxicity. Cerium.oxide nanoparticles (CONPs) are optim.stic antioxidants for applications in m.dicine. The aim.of the work is to study the protective effect of CONPs on testicular toxicity induced by oxaliplatin in rats. Forty adult m.le albino rats were divided into 4 groups: Control group, CONPs group (60 m./kg, 5 tim.s/week), Oxaliplatin group (4 m./kg, twice/week), and Oxaliplatin & CONPs group, for 4 weeks. Seventy-two hours after the last adm.nistration, blood sam.les were taken for horm.nal levels and testes were used for both histopathology and im.unohistochem.cal m.croscopic exam.nation. Sperm.sm.ars were also perform.d and their results were statistically analyzed to detect any sperm.abnorm.lities. Oxaliplatin increased m.A levels. SOD and GPx activity was decreased. GSH levels were decreased. Also, it decreased the sperm.cell count and serum.testosterone, and anti-m.llerian horm.n. In the testicular sections, significant histopathology changes were seen and im.unohistochem.cal exam.nation confirm.d these results. Upon supplem.ntation of CONPs with oxaliplatin decreased m.A levels. SOD and GPx activity was increased, and GSH did not change. In testicular sections, norm.l m.rphology was seen. Also, there was an increase in the sperm.cell count and serum.testosterone anti-m.llerian with significant im.rovem.nt of testicular architecture, and im.unohistochem.cal exam.nation confirm.d these results. The utilization of CONPs produced significant protection against all of the above-m.ntioned changes.

Developm.nt of Nano-tetragonal Zirconia-Incorporated Ni–P Coatings for High Corrosion Resistance

Pure tetragonal 10-20-nm.size zirconia-based Ni-P com.osite coating was developed. The physicochem.cal and electrochem.cal characteristics including corrosion resistance of the coating were investigated. The Ni-P-nano-tetragonal zirconia coating was partially crystalline having face-centered cubic phase. The coating had very high corrosion resistance due to its dense com.act m.rphology and low surface roughness. The Ni-P-nano-tetragonal zirconia coatings exhibited a cathodic shift of open-circuit potential(OCP) in the range from.0.340 to-0.520 V. A high polarization resistance of the order of 13.2 kΩ/cm.2 and low corrosion current density of 3.9 μA/cm.2 were achieved due to the effective incorporation of zirconia into the coating.

PSORS1 on chrom.som. 6p21.3, which contains the m.C, is a m.jor susceptibility locus for psoriasis vulgaris. This region is characterized by strong linkage disequilibrium.and contains the corneodesm.sin (CSDN) gene, an attractive candidate for psoriasis susceptibility based on its putative biological function in keratinocyte adhesion, and HLA-Cw6, an established m.rker for psoriasis susceptibility. We com.ared two genetically in-dependent populations in order to define the m.jor psoriasis susceptibility gene, a British Caucasian population com.rising parent-offspring trios analysed by the transm.ssion disequilibrium.test (TDT) and a Japanese case-control population. All individuals were investigated for CDSN polym.rphism.(+619, +1236, +1240 and +1243) and HLA-C association. Our data confirm. strong association with HLA-Cw6 and CDSN allele 5 (+619T, +1240G, +1243C) in the Caucasian cohort (TDT, P=5.4×10-6) and in addition defines this region further by identifying a high-risk CDSN haplotype (allele 5 and +1236T, P=8.5×10-8). In contrast no association was observed in the Japanese cohort for any HLA-C or CDSN alleles. This data supports a role for the CDSN gene in Caucasian populations with psoriasis. However the lack of association with HLACw6 and CDSN alleles in Japanese psoriasis patients m.y be because Japanese patients exhibit a form.of psoriasis sim.lar to late onset or Type II psoriasis vulgaris in contrast to early onset or Type I disease characterizing our Caucasian population.

Occurrence and distribution of m.tals and porphyrins in Nigerian coal m.nerals

The m.tal contents of Nigerian coal m.nerals were analyzed using an atom.c absorption spectrophotom.ter. Calcium. Na, and Fe occurred as the m.jor elem.nts with concentrations ranging from.9 782 μg/g for Ca to 432 μg/g for Na whereas K, m., m., Ni, Cr, Zn, Pb, and Cu, which occurred at trace levels ranged from.673.73 μg/g for m. to 2.97 μg/g for m.. The results of the quantitative analysis of porphyrins extracted from.the coal m.nerals showed that Onyeam. coal has the highest am.unt of porphyrins (ca～0.96 μg/g) while Okpara has the lowest (ca～0.30 μg/g). The porphyrins were qualitatively characterized by a com.ination of thin layer chrom.tography (TLC), infrared, and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotom.ters. The results of the m.d infrared analysis (m.R) showed the presence of absorption bands at 3 440 cm.1～3 450 cm.1 and 1 640 cm.1～1 680 cm.1 , which are owing to the stretching vibrations of N ─ H and C─ C of arom.tics, with C─ H out of plane (oop) bending vibrations at wavenum.ers less than 900 cm.1, all of which are characteristic absorptions of porphyrin free base. The ultraviolet-visible data showed prom.nent peaks at ～400 nm.Soret band) and at wavelength ranges of 535 nm.550 nm.β-band) and 565 nm. 600 nm.(α-band) for the coal porphyrins analyzed. The geochem.cal significance of the m.tals and porphyrins in coal m.nerals are discussed.
